    As a BMX rider who has no ideas that the fixed scene even existed like this. I think that this is a very cool, informative video.

      some of those bikes ended up looking more like mtb though... there's a reason why there's a limited selection of ground and aerial tricks that you can do on a fixie, because it's not a bike meant for extreme park riding and high jumps but high speed and agility in urban streets

    I worked at Specialized in BMX/Dirt Jump department. I was the guy that developed the the Pfix for Matt Reyes and Jeff Dempler. It was crazy that two of the best riders lived 10 minutes from Specialized HQ.
    I looked at the bikes the guys were riding and used a BMX perspective to develop better components for FGFS riding. I didn’t get to work with Tom, but he was the next rider I told our team manager to go after.
    Weird seeing my face in this video. Thanks for the memories RIP Jeff Dempler

    That was like the 40 year progression of bmx stuffed into a decade. From dancy flat ground tricks, to street riding, to ramps and redbull contests. Even the transition to wider bars and thicker tires. Wild.

  • @4Azr

    Hey, Im a Bmx rider and this video is really cool. What I found interesting is Tom leaving the red bull event is noteworthy, street riding is something else than proving who is the best, street is freedom

    Thanks for bringing back some great memories from back in the day with this very well made video. Back then i was one of only very few FGFS riders in my City and even won at some small trick contest and got 8th place at a RedBull event . The PFix was my first and only FGFS bike after years of riding BMX and MTB and after seeing your video it made me very proud to own one and to have never given it away. All those names and the old clips make me feel very nostalgic and make me want to try riding again after so many years. Its cool to be a part of that era. Great job on the video, i loved the editing and the naration!🤩

    • @youknowthatdeer
      @youknowthatdeer 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Suckmycog It was at the "RedBull - Fix und Foxi" in Vienna/Austria where u had a pole with a fox tail mounted to your bike and either had to chase the opponent and steal the tail or just overtake them and finish first. The racetrack was constructed around an iconic historical building in Viennas biggest park. I was one of two riders on 26" FGFS and the changed the rules for the following years to only allow 700c. RedBull has a short recap of the event ruclips.net/video/9ulDvMTBqGo/видео.htmlsi=97ohLBO89P0KS0uQ you can watch.

    I was deep into all of this back in the day. In the southeast it wasn’t popular but there were still groups of us around Knoxville and East Tennessee that were shredding around on the regular. Alley cat racing, polo, fgfs, indie zines, broken frames, and diy punk rock shows defined a specific time in my life. I remember watching LaMarche crashes over and over, lol.

    • @Suckmycog
      @Suckmycog  10 месяцев назад +2

      It’s true, what started on full blown track bikes slowly evolved into 26” bmx bikes to enable a higher caliber of tricks. What we see today though is a revert back to bigger bikes on a large scale cause people realized again that doing tricks on bigger bikes is fun, so now there are essentially two versions of the scene: “Trick Track” which is more flat ground oriented on 700c bikes, and “FGFS” which is usually spot oriented on 26” bikes
