Is This Dspiae Magnetic Paint Mixer The One For You?

- Dspiae Magnetic Paint Mixer Review.. Is no good for thick paints.. Only for very thinned Paints
I am a scale modeller so my review is based on that..
I bought this dspiae paint mixer tool on Amazon for £22.99.. It does mix paint but not thick paint.. In fact its has to be very thinned paint that you want to airbrush.. Probably end up catching dust someone.. Dspiae Magnetic Paint Mixer does have a Clever design with a nice sensor switch that on and off with ease.. But unless its something you would want to use to mix paint 50/50 in a bottle, then its not really worth buying.. I mix my paint in the airbrush.. as an example. You are better off with a Shaker not a Vortex machine

I missed the most important thing. That is, I thoroughly enjoy watching videos on your channel!
Thank you so much for being loyal
Nice review. But I think I’m going to stick with my badger paint mixer.
I have one of those.. and a trumpeter one too
Nice review Mos
Great review Mos - comprehensive.
Thank you
great review
Thank you
Good neutral review - thank you. I use a very cheap and reliable method - one old .177 lead BB in the bottle or jar, one good shake, and don't drink the paint afterwards. I also have a battery powered hobby drill/sander/dremel type thing: a cocktail stick with a split in the end whizzes paint up in seconds. I wouldn't buy one of these type of mixers even if they worked to be fair.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi MOS, thanks for such a great & honest review. When I saw the title of this review, I thought, that sounds a cool idea. But I was really disappointed with the product, especially when Dspiae normally has such a good reputation for the quality of their products. This is definitely not on my hobby bench shopping list.
Glad it was helpful!
I believe that the thickness of the bottom of the container affects how well it mixes. If the container is thicker, such as the Tamiya glass paint jar, the mixing rod inside the jar is farther away from the magnet contained in the mixer body. You referred to the Dspiae mixer as a vortexer. It is true that the steel rod is supposed to create a vortex action. However, as was demonstrated, there are other factors at play (strength of magnetic field), that influence the effectiveness of the vortex action. A true vortexer causes the whole paint container to move in a twirling motion when in contact with the vortexer's surface. This then creates a tornado effect inside the container. This movement of the paint does thoroughly mix it, even if it is thick to begin with. Paint can be thoroughly mixed in half a minute or so. The vortexing action is also helped if you place a stainless steel mixing jar in the container. To me, a vortexing movement seems superior for mixing paint as opposed to a shaking movement.
My apology, I forgot to mention that I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel!
yeah i get that, but to me i just mix the paint in the jar.. then i add to air brush then add the thinners and give it a mix
I love the vortex shakers, its works like charm,.
With pre thinned paint?
@@MOS6510Models yes like the vallejo model or hataka bleu or red line paints
I use a stir stick, I can evaluate the globs or lack of globs in the mixing process. That gives me a clue as to what the viscosity is.
i raise a toast to that.. im the same
cool design, bummer it does not work to good, great review
I use wooden craft sticks to stir all the paints that come in a jar, tamiya, mr hobby, mr color, real colors etc. None of those need much stirring, they don't tend to separate that much. But some kind of shaker would be good for vallejo model color, vallejo model air and ak interactive 3rd gen are thinner and don't usually need much shaking.
Yeah same, and also coffee stirs
@@trollwholivesu7258 now that you mentioned coffee stirs, those are the ones I meant, craft sticks are wider and thicker.
Grab a hand full from mcdonalds.. thats the stir stick i showed in the video
I love my badger mixer tbh. Doesn't coat the neck of the jar/bottle creating crusty bits that can block your airbrush
have to agree :) i got both badger and trumpeter one
When you mix paint put thinner first, that way it mixes properly drawing the paint into the thinner.
Thanks for the tip!
I use a vibration mixer I got a model show. I'm sure it's based on a vibrator with a holder for the paint. Used it for years and it's best paint mixer I've found. No faffing about.
im off to thornbury this sunday... ive seen them for sale there last year, ill see if i can pick one up
I just read on the aliexpress, like you concluded it's meant for pre thinned paint. Might work with MRP though, at least with the ones in plastic bottle. But the bottom can't be curved, it has to be flat. Hobby Mio has a powerful shaker, but it costs more than double.
yes.. its a limited use tool in my opinion.. and i didnt see that about pre thinned paint on the amazon website...
Looked interesting, after your review it doesn't. Thank you for saving me the money!
i just use a cocktail stick or the other end of a paint brush always worked for me
yes i agree
"It's shite!" best conclusion. 10/10
I do say what i see.. I try to be tactful but sometimes there are only a few words you can use...
Curious how well the laquer shaker works with the humbrol droppers. Some of the. Can be a pain to mix as they can be a bit thick. Currently I have a couple of mixing balls in them to help.
i have bought some marine nuts to put in my dropper bottles.. they work a treat and dont rust.. the new gen 2 humbrol paints are alot thinner and better
@@MOS6510Models That's good to know. The 106 I have at the moment comes out the dropper like a paste and needs quite a bit of thinning to even brush paint. Looking forward to trying the gen 2.
Interesting concept! Shame it doesn't quite work as you'd hoped.
Yes.. if i have some pre thinned stuff i may use it.. but i cant find the pins online either so that might also be a problem
Sorry to be a smartarse, Charybdis is the whirlpool-creating sea monster from Greek mythology. Odysseus had a bit of bother with it on his way home from the Trojan Wars.
Ah i should have googled it lol.. thank you
I'll stick to my Badger mixer thanks.
Same as me.. but i also have the trumpeter one too which i find mixes a tad quicker
I think I'll save my 20 quid and stick to using my hands.... good review though.
but i use the hataka laquer shaker these days lol
I find with display products they are all well made a lot of them are quite gimmicky I have the circle cutter and their knickers they are really good and they are worth having
Their knickers? Direct me to their website at once! ;-)
@simon Nonymous ann sumers?
yes this was a bit gimmicky indeed.. i do have a jigsaw i made into a paint shaker.. but i use the hataka laquer shaker these days lol
@@MOS6510Models yeah I've seen that done several times nothing beats a good handshake lol
@@RCUKScaleModels we call it a port vale
Not sure I’m sold on this one
It will be collecting dust...
@@MOS6510Models a cool idea would be if the bottles came with a base that could plug in to stir the paints, and the balls or whatever were already in the bottle
@@ModelMinutes we both have contacts with humbrol... lol
@@MOS6510Models lol 😂
Get a vortex mixer
That is abit naff!! You really want it to mix the paint rather than messing about thing 1st well i would anyway lol
yeah matey very true
So basically it only mixes paint that is already thinned and mixed. 😂
yeah... thats it lol.. I think this would be great for those who buy airbrush paint.. scale modellers use brands that we mix to our liking..
😂😂😂
To me paint shakers are gimmicky. Just shake it by hand and stir with a stick.
I dunno.. one I have is superb.. badger spinner is excellent
