thanks for taking one apart, thought about doing it. own and use 50 plus of these, love them, best thing hf sells. still waiting on a video from you on taking hf bolstered screw drivers apart. hf has some great stuff for old farts like me, just have to read reviews and see where made. before buying.
I've had ones that I had to pound out and ended up breaking multiple magnets. As others said some are all glued and others are very little
Question is... WHY?
I'd rather spend $4 & buy 4 two packs of the same magnet bricks... & save myself the time, effort, & aggravation of tearing up a magnet bar just to get 8 broken magnets.
Wait, you mean we can do this without having to rent a blowtorch and a bulldozer?!
Crappy magnets, shame on you HF - Charge a couple bucks more and provide good quality.
Soak the bar in actions for a day after taking the tape off. Won't need to break magnets to get them out.
Why? The mess of the glue/epoxy on the magnets means more work to clean it off so they are usable. And add to that the risk of chipping the magnets getting them out. For 99¢ I can get 2 nice ones and keep the magnetic tool bar intact. Spend $4 on 8 nice and clean magnets and get the tool bar ($4.99) for free. Or if you go in there often enough, get 4 free tool bars by just buying the magnet 2 pack four times. Which was pretty much what you were suggesting on your web site by listing 34 items under $1 at Harbor Freight; spend a buck and get a $5 magnetic tool bar "free".

I've had some where the magnets are barley glued in, then I've had some that took work to get then out. Ah.... Chineseium quality control....

You can also heat it in the oven and that epoxy softens right up. Then you just pull them out. I do have to say two for a dollar would be $4 for the same amount and all the work that you go through for that I'm not sure that it wouldn't just be better to pay $4.
When I did one I wedged the screwdriver in from the side of the magnet just a bit and popped it free from the glue and then pulled it out with my finger or screwdriver. None of them ever chipped. I used tow of the magnets last night to attach a sign to the front of my toolbox. Others in a box of rubber gloves and a few in a box of Kleenex to attach those to my toolbox.
