You guys make me happy! I really enjoyed this album, and I really loved it back in the 90's when it came out. And since it was Carl's last album, it needs a lot more love and respect.
A very fair and informative review! If you come in expecting a simple, fun "soundtrack for summer" (as Mike Love once put it), you will get exactly that! So many of these vitriolic reviews come from those who have never listened to it or want it to be something like "Pet Sounds" or "Sunflower." There's quite a bit to like on this one, and I'm glad you two looked at the positives the CD has to offer.
Thanks for this very fair review of what I thought was a great album! It captured the true essence of the Beach Boys. Loved ALL the covers. And I even liked John Stamos tribute to Denny's song Forever better than the original! Mike did a great job with Terry Melchor producing the familiar well loved Beach Boys sound.
Have thought (still do) that Summer In Paradise was and is a basically good album. Am writing my comments about halfway through your review. Agree that production wise, it sounds very much of its time/early 1990s. Have always enjoyed the "harder edge" remake of " Surfin' " . Think it's better than the disco remake of "Here Comes The Night" (which I still like and enjoy, especially the vocals on it). Think the best song on SIP is "Strange Things Happen". "Summer Of Love" to me is cheesy, but not any worse than Brian's attempt at a rap song with "Smart Girls". Don't think (like many) that SIP is their worst album/ Still Cruisin', anybody? Think much of the criticism from fans about it was because of Brian's non involvement in its creation. My biggest criticism of it would be its packaging/in an eco-pak, versus a CD booklet/sleeve, in a jewel case. Understand why it was packaged this way, to promote ecology, but I still prefer CD booklets/jewel cases. Also didn't think it was necessary to re-record "Forever", with John Stamos replacing Dennis on vocals. If they wanted to pay tribute to Dennis, they could have recorded one of his unreleased songs, or finished up a song like "A Time To Live In Dreams".
I’d love for y’all to tackle the entire Kinks catalog (Katalog?) after finishing with the Boys. I know you’ve tackled at least one of the albums, & their debut rated high in a recent episode. (personally, I love the 2nd record much more than it.) Davies’ bros career (Kareer?) echo the Wilson clan, in terms of critical high & low points, & it would be interesting to hear your opinions. I’d venture to guess that considering how forgiving you’ve been to some quote unquote stinkers (according to mainstream reviews) there might be some undiscovered gems worthy of discussion. Plus, the “Superman” vs “Here Comes The Night” disco showdown will be entertaining.

Like we may have said in this video (I forget!) anything from The Beach Boys is more than worthwhile and a gift :)
John Stamos' version of Forever was the first version I ever heard, and I really liked it. And then when I heard the original I liked it too.
Lahaina Aloha definitely the best one IMO. Cool Carl vocal on that one.
Yes it's a great song!
This has been one of the most 'honest' reviews I've seen.
Nicely done and put into perspective correctly.
Thank you so much! :)

Thank you! Yes would love to go through all of the kinks - would be a lot of fun!
Fun songs with bad production......
It wasn't really bad? Great no? I only wish Brian would have participated on this one.
This album has a lot to offer! :)
Better than Pet Sounds....
Hehehe
Before I main point. It is their worse album. I bet if Elvis Presley wrote like this, I bet everyone would say it's great.
Not a favorite (scale of 1 to 10) a solid 5.
I get that :)
