    In all fairness to Malone, I guess high pressure water from the car wash isn’t the same as a regular rain shower. The last few days it rained and zero water in my car or on the seats.

      A regular rain shower would actually be worse because it would be a constant rain shower That last from anywhere from 10 Minutes to hours

      I wonder whether waterproofing spray on the straps would help. But as an old preacher said, “Whether the weather be cold or whether the weather be hot, whether the weather be rainy or whether the weather be not, we will weather the weather whatever the weather whether we like it or not.”

    Most definitely water gets in through where the strap goes in. Other then the leak through the seal this roof rack is heavy duty enough to load two kayaks on top of it.

    I also have a 4 door altima. About how far from the front/back window/windshields do you place the bars? The further away I space them it does not look "flat". My assumption is once I load a kayak on there it won't really matter but I dont want the kayak pointing "up" at all (front bar looks higher than back bar when I put it on there). Altima is a 2022 model but they don't appear to have changed much.

    I just washed my car and the water follow the straps and enter inside. I can’t imagine with a big rain. I Will try to put a piece of rubber on straps to keep the water outside. Also i cut the bars to 44 inches with a grinder to fit on my toyota yaris 2012.

  • @kelfk

    I wonder if water still leaks in if you take off the rubber padding around the car's frame, and have to strap go between...

  • @mindhax_
    @mindhax_ 9 месяцев назад +1

    You could always run the strap behind the weather strip

      No....Not advisable

    • @mindhax_
      @mindhax_ 8 месяцев назад

      @johnnyrebel3340 That's what I did. It doesn't matter either way. The strap isn't made of rubber, so it wicks the water into the car regardless. However, it being on the other side prevents as much water touching it.

    The reason they leave the sliding door open is because Amazon gives them a really dense area and probably he has a lot of packages in the same place so it takes a really good effort to open and close this door after a while, that's the main reason.😃

    Thanks for this review, I've been looking for a modestly priced rack, I only need it 4-5 times in the summer so paying 3-4 times the price for a yakima or thule just wasn't in the cards.
    It's been over a year since this video, are you still happy with the rack?

    • @BillyKayaks
      @BillyKayaks  3 года назад +1

      I ended up buying a truck, not related to the rack. Now I just throw the Yak in the back of the truck, but I used the Malone rack for an entire kayak fishing tournament season with no issues. This includes practice or pre-fishing too.

    I just installed on my 2019 Mazda CX-5, the cam buckle doesn't tighten like a ratchet strap therefore it's always loose. I wouldn't trust it over 35 mph. 100% returning it as I think it's unsafe and can't believe it's legally sold.

    • @BillyKayaks
      @BillyKayaks  3 года назад +1

      I don’t really like cam buckles for applications like this, seems like an over kill. I’m not an engineer, but these seem safe to me. I’ve never had them loosen. Even if they did, the strap is inside the vehicle with you LOL

      @DoubleBogeyBass 3 года назад

      @@TainiiLee I really have not had any problems to speak of. I’ve now taken it to the Delta several times, and that’s about 1 & 1/2 hours from me. It does just fine on my car. I will say though that on my 2 door car with the weight of the kayak, it does push the roof in a little bit on my car, but it pops right back up after I take it off. For me it’s not really an issue because I don’t really care about the condition of my car, it’s 12 years old. I have a video on my channel called first impression of my kayak and at the 5 minute mark I show a little video of it on my car. I should do a follow up.
