There's fan projects that turn GZDoom into Metroid. None of them were ever finished though, so they're pretty barebones. My favorite one is Metroid Dreadnaught Overhaul. The sprites look great, Samus' abilities are really well replicated. It's only got a couple training maps, and you can also just play Doom II's campaign with it (super OP BTW), or you can probably just load another mappack along with it.

Federation Force's reveal made people mad, there hadn't been a Metroid game for the better part of a decade and then they announce this weird spinoff where Samus is barely featured at all. Also I think Metroid's niche-ness is partly because it sells poorly in its home territory, and partly because of the game style. Some people just don't like having to backtrack.
Metroid has always been niche and that is why nintendo will not waste their own workers time to make something which will only give some profits instead of a huge mountain of cash.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to both of them. They both can be described as first person shooters and star badasses, but one's going to steer more towards high octane reflexes while the other is going for a more Metroidvania atmospheric exploration. It's like comparing either of them to Portal, being first person and technically shooting with a gun doesn't make them the same.
In my opinion, a gamer loves to play games no matter what platform it is on. They can sit down and enjoy a nintendo game just as much as they can enjoy a pc game. They enjoy the game for what it brings not for the platform it is on.

I am pretty sure I can say that he is absolutely wrong about Metroid. And it pains me to say that because I love Metroid. Own and beat every one, including the fangame that must not be named. Nintendo spent a lot of time around the time of Dread's release making it obnoxiously difficult for new players to catch up on the series, with a "You don't own a Wii U and a 3DS? Sounds like a you problem." Mentality alongside their war on ROMs. So, yeah, as hyped as I am for Metroid Prime 4, calling Metroid more relevant than Doom is a flat out lie.
I just think it's a shame id software didn't do Heretic/Hexen instead of Doom Dark Ages; it would've been pretty sweet for the idea. And if Nintendo really wants to build the Metroid Prime 4 hype, we should see Prime 2 and 3 coming out before 4's release date; whenever that will actually be in '25.

Metroid Prime 1 was an amazing game, Doom (1993) was the greatest game of all time. Im not saying that the Metroid series is bad and they did help create the metroidvania genre, however Doom helped establish the FPS genre. At the end of the day thats my opinion and you cant really compare them on gameplay (but in terms of impact its clear this person has no idea what they're saying).

Doom the Dark ages is multiplatform, Prime 4 Beyond is not.
And Doom as a whole is larger IP than Metroid is.

No game deserves my attention. Unless cringey nerds argue about if it's good or not without it even being released. In another time he would argue over tv shows and celebrity cameos when the movie market was big. In every popular enough niché these guys exist...that's about it. Keep it up dude!
Now, I agree trashing Doom because it isn't Metroid is dumb, I need a bigger reason than "it isn't Metroid" not to like a game. And considering that Microsoft has *them* as a consultancy firm, I definitely have a bigger reason. Also, I did my research, the Switch sold, as of January 2024, over a 130 million units, over 50 million more than the Xbox Series and over 80 million than PS5.
Nintendo fans are really taking a 180 in comparison to how they were towards Doom Eternal.
