This game takes place after a bad ending for Sonic.Exe: Nightmare Beginning. This game takes place between NB and EoT (Eye of Three). Exetior subdued the first trio of Sonic's friends and now seeks to completely suppress the spirit of Sonic, destroying it and taking over this and other worlds.

​​​@@ashuraomega1000official timeline is: Nightmare Beginning REMAKE (Game that hasn't released yet) [The old one isnt cannon anymore] - Continued Nightmare part 1 (game) (Old one before EoT was a thing) -Finished Nightmare (Game) - then there's the animations in JaysKoyz' channel - Everywhere at the end of NU (Game) - Sally.exe EOT Part 1 and 2 (Game) - Cover Story (Unreleased game, with the least info so far... but will wrap up the series for GOOD)
(Yeah, it's implied there was a reset along the middle of the timeline mainly because of how different exetior acts)
Edit: Everywhere at the end of NU is a joke game I know, but its listed as canon in the timeline by the creator, so its gotta mean something lol

@ashuraomega1000 Cn and Fn are simulations, not reality (created by Exetior for his entertainment). Much later in EOT, the girls escape, break the simulation and come to reality

This is not the final round of sonic.exe! The final round will be Sally.exe: cover story, but it has not yet been released. Also, you have not yet completed some of Jayz’s other games, like Nightmare Beggining remake (demo for now), Everywere at the end of NU (this game is not on Gamejolt but you can download it under the description of the game trailer) I recommend going through them too. Since this is a demo now, there is no better ending in the game. Here is a list of all the endings that are in this game: 1. Bad ending 1 (you got this ending) 2. Bad ending 2 (like bad ending 1, but now you have to lose 350 lives, but using the "F" button you can do this quickly ) 3. Ending A (Amy solo) 4. Ending C (Cream solo) 5. Ending C+ (alternate and expanded Creme ending) 6. Ending S (Sally solo) 7. Ending S+ (Sally ending, but must be played on Canonical difficulty ) Also in this game there is a lot of additional content, such as secrets, additional missions, etc. After beating the game, don’t forget to get the forgotten ending in CN, and also look at all the secrets, please, it took me a long time to write the previous comment) In any case, good luck!)

So, apparently Continued Nightmare part 1 is not canon now?
According to the description, it takes place in between Nightmare Beginning and CN EOT.
So after nightmare beginning's bad ending, this just happens? Someone please clear this up for me!

Basically it's an alternate simulation where exetior is more violent and the eye virus doesn't exist yet. There will be 2 parts to this game the demo showed part 2 and part 1 will be completed later.
