    Thank you so much Jeff! Your videos are helping me tremendously! I am new to singing at 73, but now practicing at karaoke and recently open mikes. Working with your videos is giving me confidence in my voice and I am getting good responses from audiences and live musicians. Thank you!!!

    thank you jeff for continuing to release videos on youtube for people like me who like to sing as a hobby but not professionally. I've been subscribed for years. do you think one day you can make a video for contraltos? be well.

    • @JeffRolka

      Thank you for being here for so long! The 'Alto' range videos conform to the contralto ranges and registration events, though I don't always go as low as c3. If you definitely need that c3, most of the tenor videos begin there or only slightly lower!
      Thank you!

    JEFF! Thank you so much you're part of my mornings, and my voice is growing so much. My favorite word is "Intervalic".
    I must mention, the importance of hydrating and keeping your lips and tongue and throat hydrated. Also helps with the lip trill. Thanks again learning so much

    Hi Jeff, awesome trainings. They help really well. I am a Soprano. I have 2 issues when I sing, 1 is that I sound nasal most times especially when I try to sing higher notes and 2nd is that I don't sound crisp when I sing a scale or any kind of continuous notes together. I sound sluggish... Like for ex when I sing an Ah sound with notes CDEFG I don't sound crisp with step on each note clearly rather it sounds sluggish and also no vibrato at all bcoz vibrato is directly linked with crispness of notes combination right.... Please help....

    Hi Jeff, I do not have a head voice, I can not scream so can you tell me why I don't this ability. I am at a loss as I sing in a choir and even at alto I cannot reach some alto top notes. Thank you

      The short answer to your question is, I don't know. If something happened to your larynx or the musculature is terribly atrophied it is conceivable that the cricothyroid muscles would not be strong enough to elongate the vocal fold. That would prevent you from having a head voice. I would suggest consulting your doctor and getting a referral to an ENT or autolaryngologist to have them evaluate the musculature and structure of your vocal tract. If everything appears normal, then it becomes a matter of learning to release muscle tension with the thyroarytenoid muscles in order to allow the development of the cricothyroid muscles. This will restore your head voice.
      Best,
      Jeff

    Question-a teacher told me my transition point is more in the range of G4-A4. Can I still use this for developing my head voice or should I use another video.. I am an Alto

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  9 лет назад +5

      +Jane Frye Excellent question. There are three transition points in the human voice. Most don't notice the primo passaggio. The secondo passaggio is what is generally referred to as 'the break' and where many will start having a very airy sound to their voices. There is a third transition point higher up where female vocalists enter what is called the flageolet range.
      The range that you're referencing would generally correspond to the primo passaggio for the female alto voice. The secondo passaggio would normally be around Bb4; but all voices are different.
      This video descends sufficiently low for you to use it, though it may begin a little on the high side. If it goes too high, just stop singing for a moment, or switch to the lip trill for those key areas.
      Let me know if that helps!
      Jeff

      Great feedback. And I learned something new. Your reply makes perfect sense. I have noticed my voice seems much more shallow and strained sometimes a Bb4. This is what I'm working on..so as they say, "Practice makes Progress" Thanks, Jane

    I am supposedly a high alto at least what I’ve been told by my choire director however I’m either not comfortable or just unable to sing outside of my chest voice too often, can this video help strengthen that head voice?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  Год назад

      I would avoid thinking of it as 'strengthening' it, though that is what others will say. Moving over the registration events is a key part of the process of singing that will allow you to have a seamless tone quality throughout your range.

    I 'm not a singer but I want to audition for a show. I'm a sixteen year old girl and I don't take chorus, so I have a few questions. Is head voice the same as falsetto, because I used my falsetto for most of these, but I can't seem to go higher or into a "head voice".

    • @evadnespencer942
      @evadnespencer942 6 лет назад +2

      If your singing in falsetto you'll sound like elmo. Head voice is the mid area between the falsetto and the chest voice (Your normal speaking voice). Now your a sixteen year old girl or am assuming your still sixteen, so your supposed to be doing these in the mid area (Not sounding like elmo). I sound like elmo doing these cuz i am a boy, lower voice, don't let the pic fool you thats my mom there.

    • @evadnespencer942
      @evadnespencer942 6 лет назад +2

      If your sounding like elmo all you need do it more and more and give it more force, more breath. Over an enough period you should be doing it easier, you said you weren't a singer so thats why that section of voice isn't open as yet.

    So if my voice break is at Ab4 that means I'm a contralto?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  2 года назад

      Not necessarily. Work towards vowel alignment and establishing an appoggio breath management practice and your voice type will emerge out of those practices.

    Jeff I have a question, I'm a 22yr old guy I'm obese and I have a female voice tone. Could it be because of my body mass or what?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  9 лет назад +3

      +Dominique Griffin Hello and thanks for watching and getting in touch. I don't think so, and I can think of no reason why body mass would impact your vocal folds in that way. One thought is that if your abdominal muscles are not strong enough to engage with your diaphragm effectively, it would have the impact of reducing the flow of air over the vocal fold. The lack of air would predispose you towards using the ligament on the vocal fold more than the vocal fold proper. Singing in that way is falsetto, which can in certain ranges of our voices have a somewhat effeminate tone. Try singing with your arms lifted over your head and see if you notice a difference. If you do, the carry on that way until you can sense the engagement of the abdominal muscles. Let your arms down, and try to replicate the sensation and see if you get the same results with your voice with your arms down.
      Let me know how it goes! All the best,
      Jeff
