Seeing you sharing coffee with your Pop was so nice. In 1972, I turned 18 in October, & my wonderful Daddy died 9 days later. Lost my Mama 3 years later. Treasure the time you can spend with your parents if you still have them! ❤
I’m up in OKC zone 7b and have 12 patty pan, 12 straight neck and 6 zucchini in 5 gallon buckets. The Hoss straight neck gave all female flowers and now all male 😢 Zucchini only male flowers so far but the Hoss Seed Patty Pan produced equal M/F and I just harvested 9 pp & 2 SN squash. I have only seen 2 vine boarers one of which I smashed before eggs could be laid. Keeping you in our prayers.
I may have to change from crook neck squash to Patty pan.The seeds I purchased from these companies say they are self pollinated, but I can't TELL.If I could get male and female at the same thing I would hand pollinate, but they don't grow like that for ME!! UGH! All I want is just a few.dang!!
Mentally not ready for the triple digits we're forecasted to have this weekend. We're already in drought. Couple of years ago I bought a rechargeable fan tha5 really pushes the air. Flies are bad. The fan pushes them off me when i do sit for a spell. Stay cool Jill. Remember y'all to Pray, Plan,
We are in the same boat with the squash. I was just talking to my mom about that yesterday. Lots of flowers, no squash. Plants look very healthy though.
Also, first time for me to grow bush beans. I have just been picking about every other day. I only planted 12 plants and I have picked nearly 4 gallon bags of beans. I’m shocked! 😊. I planted a few more plants about 3 weeks ago to see if I can go one more round.
Jill it was awful here in Weatherford..... for the first time this year ...I had to come inside. We got about 1.5 in of rain... I gonna come see you sometime.
Central Texas, and I have some yellow squash, but no zucchini ... green beans have done okay, and greens of all types did good this year. Had a hard time with aphids. Hoping for rain.
Feast or famine seems the order of the year. Cloudy again today but no rain. I don’t pray for an easier life but the strength to endure and so far so good. God is good all the time. I’ve already started replanting my squash. The originals didn’t produce much more than males, same with cucs.
I’m down south of you in Seguin, TX. We haven’t had a lot of rain, but I’m ok with that because I do not want the crazy severe weather that you all have been dealing with this year. It is HOT and miserably humid already. I saw a heat index of 118 degrees on my weather station this afternoon. The actual air temp was 104. UGH!!
Glad you escaped the hail damage! I was out weeding for about 4 hours this morning. Weed whacked the perimeter. I’d love to put landscape fabric down and wood chips everywhere. Maybe another year. We are dry here too so far. Time for tea and a rest before going back out to mow.
Hello, I am in Dallas County. To answer your question about squash, my Early Crookneck is slow. I direct sowed zucchini, it too is slow. I am watching out for squash bugs and vine borers. So far, so good. Thanks for the tips and good gardening sense. Take care and God bless.❤
Dang Jill, you were up early. i came out this morning and it was stupid hot. Finally getting a breeze. Doing storm clean up here. Flooded out several times already this year. South AR... like, what is their target because we have gotten whipped this year. Hang in there folks.
Hi there, we are not getting that much squash either! What is going on? Guess what…… miracle from the heavens, RAIN. YES. WE WERE BLESSED WITH RAIN LAST NIGHT. A cell popped out of nowhere. And the Lord blessed us with rain. For about 20 to 30 minutes. It was beautiful. Thanks for the prayers. Praise God. Your Tomatoes look fantastic. Great video. Take care. Stay hydrated. Luv ya! ❤. God bless.
So thankful for the rain that is filling up the lakes and reservoirs, though it went around my house for the past couple of days. That's okay, it allowed me to harvest the garlic yesterday and the remainder of the onions this morning. Now I'm working on one bed of potatoes and needed a break from the heat and to drink a lot of water before the remainder of the potato dig. It always reminds me of digging for buried treasure! God bless you and your family!
The worms got my squash. EXCEPT the Survival Garden Grey Zucchini. So thank you SGS, and Jill for recommending them. We are currently sitting at 97 with the heat index of 115...🥵 Thank the Lord for a/c! Shabbat Shalom Jill, , Greg and Pop! Time to rest of the rest of this day.
Girl I'm here in NW Louisiana and I have never seen so much rain in my life. I've been gardening for a long time and this is the first it has taken me so long to get all my gardens planted. I missed out on my green beans because it was so muddy to plant. I have learned so much from your page. I would love to have the recipe for your salsa. Where did y'all order your high tunnels? I'm trying to talk my husband in to building me a green house and getting a high tunnel. Well prayers for you, your family and your gardens because of this crazy weather. Our hay man usually starts cutting hay in June but the fields are so wet. Whew gonna be a rough summer. Keep prepping, stock up on things and pray.
I live in Georgia and you can cut the humidity with a knife every day in the summer. It has never affected my squash. In fact I have squash on my plants now. By the way. I use watered down listerine for my powdery mildew on the leaves.
Look out for more storms this weekend .I keep you in my prayers. We are under the gun for tornadoes here at the SW border of Texas on the Oklahoma side.
Hi Jill and Greg and of course loving Pop I'm praying for you and all of Texas. These storms have been intense, but we continue to keep God in the forefront as He is in total control. Keep your FAITH strong and love how the tomatoes look they are full of lycopene. Thank you for this video as us subscribers do concern ourselves with you and all Texans. God Bless you and family and as you always say, "It Is well with my SOUL" Love ya 🙏 I pray God give you double for your trouble amen 🙏
Yep that was a big moon wasn't it I had a cloud over last night here in California I'm in High Country but still it was looking like a rainstorm odd for us here in May😮
Thank God you don't have to worry about fire damage this year ! Maybe work to acquire the greenery pruning clipping and mulch them and spread the every where you suffer from that quick sand mud problem. If you could improve the condition of all that muddy soil this year and in the years to come you will be glad you did. Network for a company that would love to dump local green tree branch mulch on your property for free ! Farmer Almanac is right. It is certainly stormy weather across the USA except for the Pacific Northwest where they have normal seasonal weather this year. I thank God for the beautiful blue skies skies and terrific weather yesterday when my daughter and I drove out to visit my dad's gravesite in the new and beautiful Western NY Cemetery for Veterans. A beautiful country drive out and back home. My dad served one year in Vietnam and we are so grateful to God he came home from that awful war. He was loved by all. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We have the best memories and rememeber his wonderful sense of humor especially during this challenging times. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone !
Put metal fence posts for your tented area to reinforce the poles…..I did this with my smaller greenhouse and we get a lot of wind here in the PNW….they are still standing….
Zucchini and yellow crook neck a just starting to bear pickable fruit. My wife Linda has been spraying with Bonide All Seasons Horticultural &Dormant Spray oil. Plus we planted garlic around the perimeter of our beds.
