I credit Crash Course with my success in BIO105. When you cover 2 chapters a week and you're taking 15 credit hours/4 classes total, it's pretty much hilariously impossible to actually grasp the material as you progress and REALLY understand it.

+Malak Angel erm, coming from someone who got 4A*'s, 2A's and 4Bs at GCSE, I found a levels really hard. the thing is, I though I knew the content and was quite confident until I actually sat the exams. in the end I got B-physics, CCC-chem/bio/mat. but hopefully I can push those up with A2's. only way to get As at a level is to revise hard from day 1.

The bigger point he missed is that floating ice is already contributing to the rising sea surface, since a floating object displaces its own volume in water. The melting ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland are the reason earth's sea levels are rising. Not to mention that if all ice would suddenly become denser than water, we would have much more grave issues to worry about.

I read my long and dry (get it?) textbook chapter last night and barely felt comfortable with the information. I watched this video today and am now an expert!!! : )
If water grew more dense as it froze and sank, ice sinking at the North pole would not raise sea level any more than it would if it melted. It would be more dense than liquid water, and thus less compact, so as sea water froze and sank, sea level would decrease, not increase.

The bigger point he missed is that floating ice is already contributing to the rising sea surface, since a floating object displaces its own volume in water. The melting ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland are the reason earth's sea levels are rising.
Not to mention that if all ice would suddenly become denser than water, we would have much more grave issues to worry about.

I see you say that Cavendish was the most eccentric scientist, and I raise to you Tycho Brahe, an alcoholic astronomist whose favorite drinking buddy was his pet moose. Unfortunately, the moose passed away after getting drunk and falling down the stairs.
BONUS: Brahe died from a burst bladder after drinking too much at a royal banquet and refusing to relieve himself.
