    The base model Ducati Scrambler has Non Adjustable suspension except for preload on the Shock. Dave explains how to get the forks working properly, and then we look at a Scrambler whose owner has upgraded the suspension and made it fully adjustable.

    Hey Dave hope all is well, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. I come from a dirt bike back round and recently acquired a 2018 scrambler cafe racer for spirited road riding. I’ve been on the stock dealer set up with no complaints feels super agile, stable, and comfortable. However I notice you mention using 75% of fork travel and I use around 60%. I’m 130lbs, I do prefer to momentum ride and use engine braking over slamming the front into corners. I don’t feel like the suspension is out of wack, is it possible I’m just not aggressive enough? Also would the settings in this video apply for a cafe racer

    • @robertoromano1837

      I know the cafe racer has the clip on bars which will put more weight over the front, a longer rear shock with higher seat height, and is stiffer in the forks. Any help would be great, thank you for the content you’re truly a guru.

      Echoing this. I've got a scrambler cafe racer as well and would like to get more comfortable on the bike (confidence-wise.) I also ride a custom build cafe racer thumper, and have set that up to be lower over all. I can say I'm much more confident on the custom build than my scrambler cafe racer (power-aside). I'd like your input on a setup for the cafe racer that will mirror my custom build. For starters, i'm taking your advise from this video and lowering my forks by 4mms and adding a click or two more preload in the back. Any scrambler cafe-racer specific advise would be much appreciated. Thank you and keep up the good work. you truly are a master.

    Hi Dave,
    I have a 2018 Ducati Scrambler Icon, as far as I know some part numbers were changed for the fork internal since 2019 Scramblers(as the Full Throttle in the video). Do you have experience on a 2018? would the 20/5 oil weight still apply to a 2018 model?
    Weight: 80kg/176lb with gear
    How aggressive: Spirited, sometimes 80kph + in corners.
    How many miles/kms on the odometer: 20200km
    Solo riding or two up: Solo
    Types of road you ride, duration of rides: Mix type, street/gravel trials/express way, 50km at least for a return trip.
    Thanks!

      Thanks for the comment and excellent information. If the part numbers were changed, were they simply superceded? If so, then the actual parts may be the same. If they are different, then the service manual should specify a different viscosity oil. If the oil specified is the same, I think it is a fair assumption that 5/20 would work.

    • @GusLiuYiChen

      @@catalystreactionsbw That makes perfect sense!
      I just found out that the fork oil specification according to the owner's manual:
      2015-2018 Ducati scrambler (except Desert Sled) SHELL Advance Fork 7.5 or Donax TA / 298cc Left / 427cc Right
      2019- Ducati scrambler (except Desert Sled) SHELL Donax TA / 285cc Left / 390cc Right
      Question: Do you follow the same specified cc when filling the fork with different viscosity oil?
      And even though the 2015-2018 indicates that use Shell 7.5W OR Donax TA, what I've found is that the viscosity is different, I'm really baffled and confused.

      @@GusLiuYiChen Excellent research! Fork oil viscosity has no international standard, so we Google fork oil viscosity charts to get the VI or cSt numbers from the parent company (Shell), then we can apply those data points against locally available oil. Yes, follow the volume specs

      You match the fork oil to the energy stored in the progressive springs when it is 50 to 80% compressed.

    Would the 20 & 5 weight oil be the same for a 2013 Hyperstrada which also has non-adjustable forks? the LH fork handles compression damping, the RH rebound damping

    Hey Dave, I will be getting a 2022 Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard soon. Is there any suspension setup that I should take note of? I'm 168cm and 83kg. Would like to hear your recommendation, so I can enjoy the bike fully. Currently riding a Honda Forza 350, the front handling is too loose I can say, as such I add in a damper to restrict the movement. Hope to hear from you soon.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  Год назад +1

      Change the fork oil to 15w or 20w for your 350! Steering damper will not solve the problem. For the Scrambler the rear shock is all that is adjustable for preload according to the spec sheets. Set static sag on the shock to 12-15mm and assess fork and shock travel used (there are videos on that).

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  4 года назад

      As you have traditional forks we need to know what you have. If the fork caps come off in your hand, most likely damping rods. If the fork caps are attached to a rod, then you have cartridge forks. If you have damping rod, both fork the same viscosity and volume. If cartridge, it has to be seen if they both do the same thing or each leg is different. Forums suggest 15w maximum if you are getting brake dive and 50/50 road gravel. 10w for both legs for 65 gravel 35 road.
