- How did the killing of a health insurance boss divide America?
Luigi Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania on Monday after a days-long, multi-state manhunt following the suspected murder of UnitedHealthcare's CEO, Brian Thompson.
It’s led to a debate about the health system in America and also prompted anonymous donors to chip in thousands of dollars towards Mangione's defence through online fundraisers.

Health insurance is a racket and last time I checked racketeering is supposed to be illegal

Not when the "Health" companies have enough legislators in their pockets. Nothing will be done until Luigi is convicted. Then there will be riots.
We are sick and tired of being lied to for profit for the shareholders
we are sick and tired of being sick and tired
So you organize and protest against healthcare in this country. Luigi’s own family are profiting from Healthcare.
There’s a comment on another podcast that said, ‘the politicians are very much to blame for the broken health system due to the lobbyists & the enormous amount of $$ that’s paid to these politicians.’ I can’t agree more.

America’s horrible healthcare system is the problem
There's more than one American problem involved in this incident. The horrible healthcare system is only one of them.
People really don't like insurance companies in general. They engage in all kinds of abusive practices. But negative effects are concentrated on certain populations which means they will always have the support of healthy well-off people. Suffer a big medical crisis that changes your employment situation and you will experience the flip side of that coin. Have a chronic condition that happens to be expensive and you might see how the system really works. Worse yet, get a mental illness while not covered by the best insurance and you're going to be fu*led.
But in this incident, America's gun problem, high murder rate and dysfunctional democracy are also on display.
@@Robespierre-lIwell said. But gun is not the problem. Actually the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of Americans to keep and bear arms, making a lot of sense if you think about it. Dictators don’t want citizens to own arms.
@@kjmax68 America's "horrible" health care system has by far the best survival rates for serious diseases of any nation on earth. Also, there are tens of millions of illegal immigrants who have no history of receiving any health care in their home countries who now receive it courtesy of American taxpayers. Those folks skew the health related statistics unfavorably. Go to another country for health care and see for yourself how the U S stacks up - don't rely on UN or Commonwealth Fund data. It is designed to degrade the US from the best health care system on earth. Outcome wise we are by far the best
@@Robespierre-lI it was a 3-D printed gun. More of a computer problem than a gun problem. Should we ban 3-D printers (he had the engineering and software skills to do the work himself). + According to FBI homicide tables US gun murder rates are among the lowest on earth if you exclude gang shootings in a few neighborhoods in a few cities.
Because people are angry, and they can relate to someone like him...
The insult to our intelligence is they cannot do more for insured when they have so much profit. That CEO was headed to a meeting to brag about $450 billion projected profit next year. How could they project that without having a plan.
I agree that amount has no right being how much they make, but they can use previous years and trends in joining and leaving to predict these things.

Luigi is a brave hero to many average Americans because they can relate to his struggles with his health problems and dealing with the greedy health insurance companies. These companies expect their customers to pay them on time every month, but when you are struggling with health issues and need financial assistance from their health insurance, they will find any excuses not to cover your claims.
Wealthy people like the system because they can afford the most expensive insurance which covers most things, and if needed they can pool resources. Hence it’s not catastrophic. "A bit controversial?" Is that an example of British understatement?
In New York State the charge “murder in the first degree” is reserved for murder of a police officer, murder accompanied by torture, murder in the commission of another crime, and other specific circumstances. That’s why Mangione is being charged with 2nd degree murder. In any other state it would be 1st degree.
Anthony didn't do his homework. Maggione won't be charged with First Degree Murder in NY because it is defined differently there than in (E.G.) Pa, where the ssme crime would be Capital/First Degree. That's at least one reason why the judge denied bail in Blair County, because what Magione is accused of by NY WOULD HAVE BEEN First Degree in Pa. Under Pa law, bail is denied only for accusation of a Capiital crime or life w/o parole--which there he has not. So under Pa law his atty is correct; he wasn't charged with either crime and strictly speaking should have be granted bail--even if an astronomical ammount.
