    Now that I will be finishing K35 (with Academy 35 immediately afterward) I can finally start building my troops and the layers around the generals that I have and will know exactly what gear to create. Chalons is today and i will be trying out a 4 varied presets (there is only so much I can do with the limited troops that I have).

      @@RedEvony Unfortunately, our best opponent knew us well, and me very well (she had been in our alliance and did battlefield together). After I was zeroed and had recovered enough, I was back in the thick of it. However, the combined forces were able to eliminate my strategy of parking next to a building and defending it while I occupied others at a distance. So... after tiring of being force ported (I do not play defense very well) I decided to change my strategy and ported next to the player who was by far the strongest on the map and was using my strategy of park-and-defend to great success.
      I was no longer being force ported and was able to go back to playing a nerfed version of my style of play. rinrin knew I was not a threat and figured out what I was up to rather quickly.
      The fight for 2nd was a hard fought one, but we simply were outnumbered and ran out of time. Mistakes on my part in the beginning (getting greedy and getting caught with my troops returning) cost us dearly.
      At least we had fun and it is great to talk about the match with the enemy after the game in world chat, giving our opponent the well deserved credit that they had earned (and I can be a bit of a proud parent knowing that I had a part in rinrin's development).
      Thanks for coming along on my journey in Evony and keeping the light burning bright.

    I did the math. Your t12 should be 542,750 not 542,500. t13 should be 325,650 not 325,500. t14 or t11 should be 217,100 not 217,000. This video is super helpful since I had no idea about how to properly layer for pvp. I have troops to train. I made it to duke following your prestige and rank video advice. Much appreciated.

    Thanks for the advice. I didn't know about having bigger layers for attacks the same troop type as your enemy, in this case cavalry. Also I've read in other guides that with regards to Ground troops, you need more of the highest Ground tiers instead of focusing on T12 as mentioned in this video.

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +3

      Yeah, there are some intricacies when it comes to optimizing your attacking march. But if I included those here, it wouldn’t be simplified 😉
      As for the ground troops, more accurately, it’s T13 that should be somewhat increased, followed by T12, then T14. (At least from my experience).
      Some people like to go heavy on T14s for ground, but that has its own detriments, assuming you have that many T14s to use for attacking.

    The math kinda went over my head pretty quick once you started subtracting 40K, 50K x3, then adding 30K to 3 of them (counter), 10K to 6 others, and then fill out the rest with 1K troops. I guess once you've done it a dozen times or more it probably starts to sink in and make more sense and become second nature. I just need to remember the formula. I had to rewatch that part of the video several times before i could start to wrap my head around it. Thank you for the tutorials.

    @nippukqk2636 2 года назад +3

    Hey, thanks for the video. I like it but i have one different approach for the protective layers. I would assign 1000 too. I can provide an example. If you send an archer march, they are weak against ground, so you would be adding more cav to protect them, but the reason why you are actually attacking a keep with archers is because the enemy has a lot of cavalry in the first place. So to add a bit move cav will just make them crash a wall of cav and to die before they can encounter or do a significant damage to ground units. Since cav have greater speed they will crush each other first and i dont think they will protect your archers much if you add more. You will just kill them. But if you add 1000 cav for T12-14 then what will happen is that the enemy will spend time getting rid of those. And actually i would say that for the ranged march what will protect them more is the siege that you add as layers, because the only thing that could attack your archers pretty early is the enemy siege, but the enemy siege will have to get rid of your own siege since they attack from the rear first. In summary i think that layers are just useful to make your enemy to waste turns as you move or attack, and by assigning too many troops for other types different than your type of march makes you to reduce your real march size. Regards!

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +3

      Thank you 🙏
      I get the point that you are making, but I feel like you may be overlooking certain things. First off, using the logic you laid out, why would 1K cav troops provide more protection than 10K or 30K cavs? It only stands to reason that the more protective troops, the better, no? Also, if the cavs are crashing against each other, then by definition they are doing their job as a protective layer.
      Secondly, with our current understanding of the game mechanics, I don’t think you can assume that the enemy’s ground troops will not encounter your cavs until the enemy’s cavs are wiped out first. Again in which case, they will be doing their job of providing protection.
      Thirdly, as you said, siege engage with siege first. Aside from that, they will not provide any other significant protection for archers. So they can’t function as a protective layer.
      That being said, there is no absolute certainty when it comes to Evony game mechanics and the layering approach I provided in the video is simplified. You are of course free to modify or adjust your march composition as you see fit or as the situation may require, just ensure that the basic rules of layering are followed 👍

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +4

      Sorry I failed to mention, I DO agree with the general idea you stated about having too many troops as layers and that taking away from your effective march size. The question now becomes “How much is too many?”.
      It’s things like this that can make layering complicated 😅🤓. That’s why I felt a simplified approach would be good for everyone to start off with. March optimization can always be done later.
      Once again, thank you for watching and for the comment 🙏🙏

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +1

      Thanks 😊🙏 Layering can get complicated and my plan here was to simplify it as much as I could.
      For your top 3 tiers, I believe there are percentages in the video (50%, 30%, 20% of your effective march). Those percentages still hold even if you have lower tiers.
      As for the distribution within each tier, it can really get tricky at that point. That’s why I didn’t go with percentages there and used a simpler approach. I would recommend you do the same, but if percentages would be better for you, maybe you can start out with something like this (75% main troop type, 14% protective troop type, 10% siege, 1 % for the remaining troop type.). You can apply that distribution within each of your top 3 tiers.
      Again, I would recommend the approach in the video, but as a starting point, feel free to use this distribution and adjust according to what you’d like 👍

      If you are talking about march size buffs, assuming you have already calculated your troops distribution and made your preset, if you then put on the buff, the preset remains the same, and all that changes is your maximum troop capacity.
      However, if you calculated your distribution with the buff in consideration and made your preset that way, then you will only be able to get the full and complete troop distribution in that preset when you are using the march size buff 👌

I just have to punch in the march size (see the next paragraph for a critical step in determining the most accurate march size....). Having it laid our for me in a matrix really helps me readily see where I need to build troops to completely fill a march, if need be. Combing that with an Troop Build RSS Calculator and I know exactly what I need troop wise... and the RSS I'll need to churn them out. 🤓
      There is one point I stumbled across as I was loading a march that I wanted to mention: One should go into their individual presets (with generals in place) and pull their march size from there... again with their preferred and appropriate generals in place. The generals will probably have skills and or buffs which may increase march size beyond your Monarch's listed march size. Don't short yourself out of that extra march size my liege!!! Ideally, you shouldn’t be sending your archer march into a place that has a lot of ground troops 😅
      I guess the ground debuffs wouldn’t hurt to have, but I think probably a debuff general for mounted troops might be a better option

      The simplest way to remember it is that the protective layer will end up being the same troop type as the one you are attacking.
      With ranged troops, you are attacking mounted troops, so your protective layer will be mounted troops.
      With ground troops, you are attacking ranged troops, so your protective layer will be ranged troops.

    First of all, thank you for this video. It is very informative. Now to my question:
    If I have T14 troops, can I make the T14 as my second level troops and my T13 as my third level while still keeping T12 as my primary level? Or should it be T12 as my primary, T13 as my secondary and T14 as my third level?

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +3

      Ideally, you’d want T12 as primary, T13 as secondary, and T14 as the third.
      There are a few reasons for this, but the most important of them is what I call “Power Economy”.
      T14 is the strongest of the troop tiers, and also gives your march the most power. But the way the game mechanics works, T14s get killed off very quickly 😅😂 So stacking your march with more T14s increases the power lost in each attack.
      On the other hand, T12s, though not as strong as T14s in terms of pure stats, are the most efficient troop tier in terms of comparing the amount of kills they get to the power they add to your march. This is something you can verify from any attack report you have.
      Similar logic applies to T13 vs T14.
      So that’s why, in most situations, you’d still want T12s as your primary tier 👌
      That being said, it’ll still be very important to have T14s in your march. What we are just trying to clarify here is “how much” 😉👍

      In my opinion, that level of protection and assistance for your main troop types is justified.

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +3

      The 50K is based on an average of sample march sizes.
      Ideally, you would want to have your troops spread out as percentages of your effective march size, but that would have made the illustration in video more complicated.
      If you feel the 50K might be too much for your march and want something simple to follow, then you can reduce it down to 30K spread out as (20K, 5K, 5K) 👌. This is getting more into the topic of march optimization

      Siege presets, no, not yet. My alliance isn’t at the point where we can consistently do siege, so the preset isn’t too helpful for me right now. I will do it later once our situation has improved 👌
      Ideally, you should have presets for ranged, ground and cavs ready to go.
      Unlinking your subs will depend on your stage of development. If you don’t have much debuff gear yet, or your subs are not yet particularly helpful on defense, then you can unlink them. Otherwise, keep them linked.

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад

      Thank you 🙏
      Though most people will use an archer march as an all purpose attacking march, the archer march is primarily for killing mounted troops. As such, one really shouldn’t be sending an archer march into a situation where there are a lot of archers.
      The second thing is that in situations where you are using the archer march as an all purpose march for attacking keeps, there will likely be quite a few ground troops in those keeps, along with archers. The purpose of the protective layer is to protect the attacking archers from the enemy’s ground troops. And a reasonable amount of mounted troops is required to allow the protective layer to function properly.
      Finally, yes, the mounted troops will likely be killed by the enemy’s archers as they are doing their protective work, but the power lost from the protective layer being killed is considerably small compared to the protection they will be providing. In addition, the protective layer will also be getting kills, so that minimizes the power exchange even more. 👌

      Regarding that K35 situation, I wouldn't be able to say much until I actually have a look at the report. But typically when you are dealing with a player that has that much siege in their keep, you would either have to break that siege down first, or just stick to rallies. Will be too costly to break that kind of player down solo.
      The best thing to kill that many siege is a siege march, but preferably a siege rally. Once the siege has been cleared down to a reasonable level, then you can proceed as normal. But since siege marches are not something that many players will have until much later (even I haven't finished working on my siege general yet), it would be best to stick to rallying that kind of player 👌

    Very nice video. I love the strategy it is straight simple and easy to recreate. Also, going to save people popping buffs too if they have a bigger march size. I do have one question. During svs and battlefield will you be giving up more points though sending 30k cav top three (t12-14) to a keep that has archer in their defensive layers. It's a case by case basis. But I'm wondering if the 30k would take enough ground out so that archer do more damage or would they all die and not taking much ground with them and costing more points because cav die so easily..... Thoughts?

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +2

      Thank you 🙂🙏
      In the scenario you laid out, if the keep that is being attacked has ground, the 30K cavs in the top layers will function as protection for your archers and slow down the enemy’s ground from reaching them. It is likely that the cav layers will be killed by the enemy’s archers. In the illustration I gave, the total power for the 30K layers in T11 - T13 amounts to about 5-6M power only. If you consider that some of the enemy’s ground will be killed as well, the net power exchange from that alone is not bad.
      Of course, you are free to adjust the amount of troops in your layers as you see fit, but that is entering into the realm of March Optimization, which this video didn’t cover for the sake of simplicity.
      Hope my answer helps 👍

      You are better off with adding siege if you mix. Look at an attack lost report. Siege kill approximately 20-30% of your archer attack. So you need to engage those troops to keep them off your archers as long as possible.

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад

      The premise of your argument is not clear.
      An “attack lost” is caused by a number of factors: troop count, buffs, debuffs, etc. That is well beyond just layering.
      Also in relation to your comment on siege, what exactly do you mean by “engage”? because the sample march shown in the video has 10K siege troops in each of the top 3 tiers.

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад

      Yeah, you need to include a bit of siege in your march. The question now becomes: How much?
      Siege is unique when it comes to PvP. Siege will engage/attack siege first. After that, it will start killing other troops. So essentially, you’d want to have enough siege in your march to keep the opponent’s siege “busy”.
      Also, even when the opponent doesn’t have any siege, your siege will help with long ranged attacks.
      Again, the question is how much do you need.
      The layering guide in the video has siege included in all layers, which I feel is a sufficient amount. Some people might want to add more, or less, that will depend. But you should definitely have some 😉👌

      Here's an example of a Cavalry Preset with T14 as the highest troops and how to build it. (This can be used for any troop type/tier.)
      Start at t1 and go all the way up to your highest tier, adding 1000 troops to every troop type.
      Add 30,000 T14, T13, and T12 Ground troops (Support Layer)
      Add 10,000 T14, T13, and. T12 Ranged troops and Siege Machines. (Tertiary support)
      Then, with how many more troops you can add to the march. Half of the amount with be T14 Cavalry, and with what's left, you split the difference between T13 and t12

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  Год назад

      Hi 🙂👋
      At the early stages of the game, ranged troops /archers are the best for attacking other castles.
      However, this changes as you progress and becomes more advanced in the game 😉👌

    What to do if enemy has mixed troops?

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад

      Depends on how many troops the enemy has and what troops they are.
      If it’s more than what you can clear in one hit, then you might need multiple hits, or you start attacking the enemy’s troop type that is the weakest link. (E.g. cavs first)
      Your buffs and the enemy’s buff will also influence this 👌

      For attacking marches, even if you are using a general like Simeon, having a bit of siege is alright. Not too much though 😉

      Yes it is 👍
      However, marches 200K and under are quite small, so you might want to make some adjusts with the numbers for the other troop layers

    Hi! Very interesting but still have a question...or more 😊
    I'M a beginner (5 monts) but now I realise that the game is not just about monsters 😅😅 So, because I thought that if you have big tier you'll get less damages and having a 34 lvl keep I trained t13 archery and t13 cavalery...I went into the battle with only t13 archery and I had a lot of wounds 🥺🥺
    So...my question is: why t12 is better than t13?
    Thank you for the video! 🤗

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +3

      Hi 👋
      The answer for why T12 is king has to do with the battle mechanics of Evony.
      While T12 is not the strongest tier in terms of power, from observations of battle reports, T12 gets the most amount of kills amongst all the tiers. And since it is lower in power than T13 and T14, the power lost (exchange) is less if you have more T12.
      One other thing to keep in mind is that T12 is less expensive to heal than T13 or T14. T12 troops are also cheaper to build.
      Those factors combined make T12 most suited for PvP 👌

      @@RedEvony quick question. Idk if I got confused about the T12 being King, but does that mean I always use T12 as primary and could use T14 as secondary? Or do I use the same steps but do T14 primary, T13 secondary and T12 as the third?

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад

      Technically, you could set your march up either way. But based on current understanding of the game mechanics, you’d be better off in most cases with having T12 as your primary tier. In the same vein, T14 would usually come in as the 3rd tier, with T13 as the secondary tier.
      That’s the simple answer 🙂👍

      The sample layering I did in the video was for an archer march, which is effective against mounted troops.

    First I would like to say Thank You for taking the time to do this video. It seems geared for people like me who are just learning the game.
    Even though I found your explanation easy to understand and easy to apply, I have a concern about one of the numbers. You say to remove 50,000 troops for the Protective Layer but unfortunately my march size would be dominated by the protective layer because of it's relatively low size.
    I found others mentioning something similar and your reply was if you think it's too high just lower the number. The problem is - I don't think anything. 😂 I'm too new to know anything. Can you tell me the Protective Layer as a proportion of the march size (pre the 1000 per extra layer)?
    Another concern I have is as I rise in Keep/Bunker level, these numbers will change causing a really bloated lower tiers. Should I even worry myself with this until I get to a higher level or do I just dismiss the extra troops? As I rise in rank using 1,000 troops out of 40,000 (let's say) seems a waste of resources to keep feeding them. But also seems a waste to train them and then dismiss them later.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance for any reply. If not, I understand; you may be busy. I look forward to more videos. Especially the really complicated ones. 😉

    • @RedEvony
      @RedEvony  2 года назад +6

      First thing: as you rise in keep size, your march size will also increase (as you upgrade your rally spot and improve your march capacity research). If you manage you lower tiers, you won’t need to worry about bloated lower tiers and 1000 troops for layers won’t be a problem 👌
      That being said, if your march size is still very low right now, the first thing you can do is reduce the number going into your layers. Start off with using 500 instead of 1000 each. If that is still too much for your current size, then use 200 instead 👌. This reduction does have some effect on battle mechanics, but you don’t need to worry about that now.
      The 50K troops was based on the average march size of a sample of players K25 and above. I understand that this would not be suitable for everyone and for simplicity, I avoided putting too many percentages in the video explanation.
      So to help you out, try this: According to the video, go with a 50:30:20% split of your effective march size for your top 3 tiers. Then within those 3 highest tiers, use 75% for the main troop type, 14% for protective layer, 10% for siege and 1% for the other troop type.
      Hope that helps 😊👍

      Hey Aka👋 What about mounted and ground? Some guide talk to different approach “more heavy”, with different percentage on first and second layer… but is, for t12, always the same (tier 1)?
      Considering K35 and T14, what have I to push like first tier of a ground/mounted march?
