Small little detail, it's theorized that Bit Trip Runner 2 and 3 take place after Flux in a brand new timeline where Commander Video doesn't lose control of his emotions during the events of Fate. This also explains Rerunner taking place after Flux, since he now has complete control over himself and is even able to utilize his abilities from Void and Fate to help his pursuit against the Timbletot.
...doesn't Runner 2 take place right in between the original Runner and Fate? That's where its start and end match up and the last level of Runner 2 is literally called "Flight to Fate," and the "Bit.Trip" world in Runner 2 exclusively references Beat through Runner and nothing after. But Runner 3 doesn't match up with Runner 2 at all really story-wise so I guess it could take place after Flux in some way. Now, I haven't actually played Rerunner yet so I don't know the lore (don't spoil me pls lol) but Runner2 was blatantly intended to be set between Runner 1 and Fate. Or do you mean that Runner2 takes place between Runner1 and Fate but only in this new timeline?
It has been confirmed by a dev in a steam discussion page that Runner 2 and 3 take place after Bit.Trip Runnner
@@Mari0no1S The post confirmed Runner 3 as well? Runner 2 is obviously between Runner 1 and Fate, that's kinda just been known, but the problem with saying Runner 3 takes place there too is it doesn't work at all, Runner 3 doesn't remotely match up with any point in the timeline, it contradicts not only the original Bit.Trip saga but also by extension contradicts Runner 2 as Runner 2 fits in with the original saga. It doesn't actually fit in or match up anywhere and is completely non-sequitur, unlike Runner 2.

@@Mari0no1S Well then, they really must have dropped the ball on Runner 3's whole story and setting then or just not cared much because it doesn't match up with any of the other games really at all, whereas Runner 2 fit in between Runner and Fate pretty seamlessly. And also the last level of Runner 2 is called "Flight to Fate" but if Runner 3 takes place right after Runner 2 now despite it not matching up with things then I guess that's tainted. Only thing I can see kinda making some actual sense is if Runner 3 somehow takes place during Runner 2, like some time in between The Mounting Sadds and The Bit.Trip or something. Not saying _you're_ wrong, you're just repeating what they said, but if their intention really is that Runner 3 fits in the timeline between Runner 2 and Fate, then they really messed up on that one because Runner 3's story is completely non-sequitur to the other games.
I always thought Runner 3 was underrated. It's my favorite out of the first 3 by a good margin.
It comes down to the subjective aspects. I really like the music and the art style of Runner 3, which seem to be somewhat polarizing.
The control complaints is definitely a skill issue though lmao.
I didnt even know rerunner was a thing until today, so im excited for that.
My personal ranking is probably 3 > 1 > 2.
Yeah, after getting ReRunner during the Steam sale, while it is a great return to form, Runner2 is still my favorite Runner game. Rerunner feels really polished. Like, almost TOO polished, but it's not a bad thing since it was essentially an apology for how bad Runner3 was.
But Runner2, it's basically the original but more of everything, better of everything, better music, better level design, better gameplay, etc. ReRunner felt like they wanted to sell an official level editor but realized they couldn't slap a $20 price tag on that, so they included a bunch of "bonus" content which were mostly additional levels as fill ins and callbacks to their original franchises. I would've loved to see Runner2 levels redone in Rerunner by the Rerunner team, but I'm guessing it would've been way too much to do, which is fine since the level editor gives us the ability to do it ourselves.
On top of that, they just released a Music Editor, so people with creative chops can make their own soundtrack as well!
In Rerunner the bonus levels are not from Runner2 and Runner3, they are new levels with music from Runner2 and Runner3.
I've always liked the Runner Games since I first played Runner 1. I actually quite like that all three main games are different and do their own thing.
Runner 1 feels like a Purists Dream for a challenging platformer. Runner 2 expands so much on the concepts. Runner 3 does its own thing with a lot of experimentation.
For me I think Runner 2 really does stand out as the best. I think the way it handles secrets and unlocks is a lot less clunky than how Runner 3 did it.
I will say though that some levels in Runner 3 were pretty creative and the locals were so distinct. The Fridge Themed level in Runner 3 going from side to side was a nice touch.
I'm soon to try out ReRunner but I'm looking forward to it even more now if it has content from the other games as well.
I always got the vibe that Choice Provisions wanted to make a 3D Platformer with Runner3
One thing about 3 that you didn't mention is that the rhythm part is kinda broken. When you're going through a frantic section of a level and the trigger matching an obstacle to a note gets missed by like a millisecond, it waits until the next beat in the music to play the note. Completely throws off the flow. The rest of the new engine is kinda weird to play with, but this issue pushed me over the edge to where it's "literally unplayable" and never finished it
Runner 3 was my favorite. I thought it had the most fun gameplay. I liked how the levels be more quality then quantity. I did everything 150% difficulty 100% completion. I loved how everything feels and 4 worlds effectively. The absolute most brutal levels in the whole franchise imo in the impossible posssible levels. I loved the absolute joy and glory I felt pursuing through everything until victory to survive the most dauntless challenges the franchise has to offer. The mass difficulty is great for me. Runner 3 > Rerunner > Runner 1 > Runner 2
Edit: I did skip all checkpoints for every level 2 and 3 except impossible levels 2-9 on runner 3 for being to hard and have true 100% the original runner 1 and working on 100% for rerunner cuz workshop achievements

The one thing that is a persistent issue is that the levels do just reuse the same song. For a game heavily based around music, hearing the same song repeatedly for multiple songs is a bit disappointing
I think it’s a good thing personally, it gives each song a huge chance to shine on multiple occasions, and seeing all of the different levels built around them is pretty neat too.
Rank the Boarderlands series once u cam that would be cool
