To the comment saying iu got popular internationally because of jungkook, that's simply not true. Iu has been popular outside Korea for years. Armys, especially the loud american ones just happened to discover her because of jungkook and the collab with suga and can't shut up since, making it seem like that's the reason she's popular. She's a 2nd gen icon, and she's still extremely popular now. A whole queen.
She was not that popular for the international fandom sorry . Everybody knows IU , but it is wrong to say she has a strong popularity for the oldest K-pop fans. Her popularity for the international fandom has a Big evolution since 2017/ 2018, with the newbies K-pop fans who had discovered K-pop because of BTS and the jungkook trend started like that. If you read the oldest bbi-bbi comments, people spammed A LOT things about Jungkook. It was hysterical. I listen K-pop since 2009 and believe me, iu never has that Big impact for the international K-pop communauty.

She was everywhere in shows and Asian people love her. We're just not as loud as the western fans. Armys support many artists like heize, suran, youngha, etc but why are they not popular now as they were when they had a collab with bts? It's because they aren't as popular as iu. Iu is just different. I'm not saying the armys didn't add to that, but considering how her music evolves with time because of what a great musician she is, she doesn't need armys to spam her stuffs. IU also lost two of her closest friends who both took their lives, Jonghyun and Sulli, which will always be remembered. Jonghyun even made a song for her called A Gloomy Clock and he evens sings on that song and for Sulli, she wrote a song for her called Peach and even appeared in the drama Hotel de Luna because IU herself ask her to do the role. It’s so sad that she and all of us lost them.

When you have to pay rent, bills, bring food on the table, provide for your family/children basic human needs, cover medical bills, school supplies etc, the struggle and lack of money can destroy one mentally and even drive people to do the unthinkable just to escape from all the burdens in life.
Yes, money alone doesn't guarantee happiness because happines itself depends on multiple things in life, but it sure is way better then a monthly struggle where you have to sleep stomach empty for the day just to afford something else or so that someone else in the family fills theirs.

I just watched her drama "My Mister" about 2 years ago. The plot tells the story of a poor girl who lives in poverty with high debt. IU playing the character on that drama looks so real. I can even tell that she's not playing a role, she's trying to tell people "I was living in this property and no body trying to save me. I'm a survivor, my own savior" ❤❤
Honestly kind of happy she didn’t get picked up by one of those bigger entertainment companies. All of us who have been listening to kpop for a while know she most likely would’ve been put in a group. She probably wouldn’t have had as much say in her songs & career and I’ve seen many a neglected idol under those big companies that are always pumping the newest hottest talents. Instead she has this amazing team, who loves her and who she loves. Her persistence though is really amazing I couldn’t imagine facing 20 rejections & pushing forward. Really enjoyed listening to Palette & hearing how she made peace with herself. Pisses me off though that love scandals still are a thing in the kpop industry. Fans need to realize they’re in a parasocial relationship with this idol, you’re not dating them. How can you expect a beautiful 20 yr old not to date? 🙄

I lost my grandma too after she took care of me for years when my mom was working out of town.... The worst part was that the last time I saw her we had a small argument and left without a proper goodbye... I wasn't able to live normally for about a year, even failed in school... Still unable to live properly because ever since that time I find it even harder to socialize... But I'm very grateful for the time spent with her and that she later on appeared in my dream where we had a nice talk and said goodbye properly... I finally could let her go and move on with my life... Now I have my mom and my boyfriend keeping me here no matter how sad and useless I feel so I don't have to worry about doing something to myself anymore

Actually, I became UAENA because of her story and her personality of being matured and strong to go through all of these. My story is quite similar to her, but only the thing is that me and my family still couldn't overcome the poverty yet no matter how hard we tried. Along those years whenever I felt so down, I encouraged myself by watching IU, by listening to her interviews and her songs; especially her lyrics. She would never know that she saved my life so many times. I really appreciate this girl for being so strong and matured.

I love IU because our family had experienced the same thing she did, we were kind of well off but suddenly went bankrupt and my sister and I had to lived with our relatives who sometimes shunned us and we really had nothing and just about last year after our bankruptcy worsened things began to change just then and I heard IU’s story and I saw her and her talent and just fell in love with her with all her humble personality and lovely nature🥰🥰🥰

IU is definitely one hell of an icon in the K-pop industry. I've only heard about the Palette song which she released and Strawberry Moon which is pretty great as well. I hope IU continues to ascend. My first impression of her was in Hotel del Luna. One of the best dramas I have ever seen and much of this is because of IU.
Since then I tried to know more about her and found out what an exceptional woman she is.
Not only a good singer and actress, not only an outstanding beautiful girl....she has also a heart of gold and that makes her much more attravtive than anything else.
All the best for her and I wish she can overcome all hardships from the past and also the ones which may possibly cross her way in future.

IU is one of the most criticized and trolled Korean female icon who hasn't lost to suicide. Other people go through same criticism and commit suicide or become alcoholics but IU proves to be the strongest.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think she's not lost to it is because she has pretty good support system. she have her grandma, family and her team whom must be like a family because of how long the team stick together with her. not to mention the amount of hate she got is almost kind of the same as the amount of love she got. so she's a special case. while many others who lost to it barely had any support system. because even after their death their own family or close relative is usually still after their fortune which then show you how they got no support system at all which make them lost to suicide because it is beyond difficult and tbh almost impossible to survive when you had nothing to support you. but that doesn't mean iu is not strong because she is. i just don't think it's fair to say that her case is the same as the others who lost to suicide
Can someone explain to me why this is happening? I don't get this very much, in the west they shower celebs with requests for autographs and fan letters. Sure, that also gets very tiring to be recognised and invaded everywhere, but still- what on earth is it with the trolling?
I’m so happy I discovered “lost child” when I was 10. I heard it from one of my sister’s playlist and became a fan of IU since then. Now it’s been 12 years and she’s the only singer who I will always love 💘
IU is an amazing person inside and out... She is incredibly talented but still down to earth and super generous. far too many idols believe that they are god's gift but IU is the opposite.
