I'm an American who studied French in school, so I get what you're saying, but she didn't socialise, and barely came out of her house. The people she did mix with were Californians, and like I said, many Americans (sadly) don't speak more than one language.

With Trump being in charge you would guess everyone would start learning Chinese, or Russian, but the concept of learning seems wasted on them.
