    I found it very helpful in (1) preparing lectures and (2) in the process of academic writing. As for (1), I uploaded a table with the results of a stats analysis and I asked to interpret those in simple terms so that I could paste in a document for the students’ perusal. It explained everything in simple terms and in a brilliant style. As for (2), it helped me to speed up the process of writing the figure captions. I gave it the figures, and asked to generate captions. After a bit of fine tuning, I got very clear, short and yet informative captions. I do consider GPT as an assistant rather than a replacement. I don’t see myself working without its assistance. 🤟

    You can have it create really good low level code as well (nad high level like Python ofcourse). If you explain to it what you would like (in the advanced data analysis mode) and provide it data or skeleton code or whatever, and let it just write and execute it's own Python code, it will automatically iterateviely run and test it's own code, optimizing it and debugging it. Once you have code that achieves your goal, you can have it translate it code into C++ or whatever programming language you want to use it in the end. And then you can feed it back the C++ code etc for further optimizing (although good compilers typically are enough for most programs that don't require extreme levels of optimization and constraint) and debugging. It can't run the code itself, but it does understand the code well and can help you improve/fix the code by suggesting modifications based on the information you give it from your runs of the program.
    It has fundamentally changed (and improved and sped up) my programming routines for the better

    The main issue with most of the AI tools is that society hasn’t figured out how to process the massive leaps in technology, and they don’t want to spend the time to actually consider the repercussions (both good and bad). The promise of the technology is beyond massive, but at the moment we are arguing about whether AI should be allowed to do art, and if those that use the AI should get the chance to copyright it, foolishness.

    This situation is quite exasperating, isn't it? I find myself contemplating the pursuit of yet another PhD. However, with the aid of these incredibly convenient tools, I could effortlessly boost the quantity of papers I produce. It's amusing to think that current PhD students have access to these resources, yet it appears that some may be experiencing a shortage of motivation.

    Hi Andy! I just watched your video and I absolutely loved it! 😊 Your content is always insightful and helpful - I specifically liked your point about trying our own tools and making our own toolkit for things we do. Or, wait - it might have been in another of your videos! I was wondering - would you be interested in exploring the AskYourPDF Pro for one of your upcoming videos? As a researcher (well, a beginner) and a journalist, I'm really keen to learn more about their latest features, particularly the knowledge base and literature review modes. I've been on the lookout for detailed content on these, but so far, I've only come across some brief tutorials by the AskYourPDF team, which are not comprehensive enough to 'unlock the full potential' of the tool.
    I was thinking about simply doing my own exploration and videos (and still may), but I have little experience so far, so it will take me (probably) substantially more time to put everything together. Not that I'm lazy - just trying to leave the important stuff to be done by professionals!🍀

      As the others have said AI detection is very hit-and-miss at best because things are just advancing way too fast for them to keep up now. Even if they did work, a the author simply adding a disclaimer that parts of the paper are witten by AI would be sufficient.

  • @Jacobk-g7r
    @Jacobk-g7r 11 месяцев назад

    3:29 the reason it sucks a little is because you didn’t train it first. Like it’s a basic thing right now with general info so use gpts and create a specific version that understands and does thinks in a specific way. Not really thinking but the flow of data will be more for what you need just like how it said earlier that based on the context of the paper the material was made. It just doesn’t focus in the right way like using specific start points for information built i to humans by experience. I think it just has too wide of a knowledge base and a trained one will be better for use cases. Like any ai or human can be a realtor but a trained one is better.

  • @lukasbaker3185
    @lukasbaker3185 11 месяцев назад +36

    Idk man - I don’t see the point in having AI generate papers. It feels like you’re taking the most human part of research out of it. Robots can automate experiments which allow us to do more experiments in increasingly complicated setups, but the analysis, writing and communication are all the things that we as scientists should be doing. The story should come from your brain, because otherwise AI will use pre existing patterns and likely will not come up with novel and creative interpretations or storytelling naritives. It’s like when people try to use chatGPT to make a book outline. Feels disingenuous.

    • @EzaneeGires

      I agree with this, however if we are a subject matter expert, we can fill in the blanks between the points made with GPT in the visual analysis (which to be fair might only be skin deep). So the discussion of the results cannot be fully automated (or else we are just generating papers for the express purpose of having them be read by AI - how dystopian is that)

      Analytical and conceptual intelligence aren't the same as a high written English capacity. I have ADHD and my partner has dyslexia, we are both perfectly competent at the science part of science, but my god GPT has knocked down a giant impediment to being able to quickly parse and generate written work. We both can read and write at a high level, but it is such a time sink that it takes away from more productive things we could be doing. I genuinely love this technology.

    • @lukasbaker3185
      @lukasbaker3185 11 месяцев назад +4

      @@katnoto8993 using it to say words in the right way is one thing, using it to create bullet points and craft your narrative is a completely different thing. Personally not much of a fan. It’s definitely a good tool in some capacities, I’ve used it personally to help exit sections of text or to find the right words. I just don’t like the outlook of a world where papers are more and more Ai generated and then Ai read. Paper writing is a huge part of the learning process at all levels of science. It forces you to learn.

    • @katnoto8993

      @@lukasbaker3185 agree to disagree, AI-free purity culture is ableist and anti-minority and I'm not afraid to take on the establishment on that. This is a great leap forward for humanity in terms of what we can do, tying human development to the pace of written language is simply gate-keeping based on romantic notions; equating the act of writing the advancements down in a specific text format to actual advancement is a false equivalence.

    • @lukasbaker3185
      @lukasbaker3185 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@katnoto8993 I appreciate that you value these tools and that you find them useful, but we’re allowed to have a disagreement without you calling me ableist. That was uncalled for.
      I’m not saying you can’t use AI tools to help write. But using it to basically write a whole paper as this suggests is a problem IMO. That’s not ableist. The skeleton of the paper should be a story crafted by the Scientist that comes together through all the experiments you do. I’m not going to tell you what your ADHD limits you from doing since I don’t know you personally, but I think it’s important that we maintain the human components in science. That’s all.
      Edit: (it wasn’t all) to add onto this - I’m not at all saying anything about “AI Free purity culture” that was a straw man. The way I see it, as I said, using Ai as a tool to help writing is fine but using Ai to completely craft your narrative is different. That’s not even close to Ai purity.

    >< I believe we are meant to be like Jesus in our hearts and not in our flesh. But be careful of AI, for it is just our flesh and that is it. It knows only things of the flesh (our fleshly desires) and cannot comprehend things of the spirit such as peace of heart (which comes from obeying God's Word). Whereas we are a spirit and we have a soul but live in the body (in the flesh). When you go to bed it is your flesh that sleeps but your spirit never sleeps (otherwise you have died physically) that is why you have dreams. More so, true love that endures and last is a thing of the heart (when I say 'heart', I mean 'spirit'). But fake love, pretentious love, love with expectations, love for classic reasons, love for material reasons and love for selfish reasons that is a thing of our flesh. In the beginning God said let us make man in our own image, according to our likeness. Take note, God is Spirit and God is Love. As Love He is the source of it. We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, true love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as patience and faith (in the finished work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, rather than in what man has done such as science, technology and organizations which won't last forever). To avoid sin and error which leads to the death of our body and also our spirit in hell fire, we should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, it will be the cause of so much destruction like never seen before, it will deceive many and take many captive in order to enslave them into worshipping it and abiding in lawlessness. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end. Our prove text is taken from the book of John 5:31-44, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12, Daniel 7-9, Revelation 13-15, Matthew 24-25 and Luke 21. Let us watch and pray...
