We sang this to my dear father, as he went to meet his Redeemer. He had loved and served Jesus all of his life, as a pastor. He was a mighty man of God. As we sang and he passed, we were overcome with emotion, and our voices failed. God allowed me to hear a heavenly choir take over and sing, as he ran into his eternal home. So thankful that our Redeemer waits for us!
God bless you. I get goose bumps when I listen to this song. Tears fill my eyes my heart fills with gratitude to Jesus. I get the feeling of connection with our Lord 🙏😢
My wonderful mother will be laid to rest tomorrow morning. She was a Christian all of her life and this was her favorite song. It ministers to my soul as I envision her experiencing such joy I can only imagine. I am confident I will see her again!
I am listening to this in December 2024. May Father God continue to bless the Saints and our country in the mighty name of King Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen 🙏
This song gives me goosebumps every time I listen cause tragedy behind the song writer Philip Bliss . Somehow after he and his wife’s death , his friends found this hymn notes and proved that Philip loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart . Another amazing story is that Philip told church member the day before ,” I may not pass this way again . I am going home tomorrow.” His words and sing would prove to be prophetic. He had premonition.
His wife and he were killed at the Ashtabula train wreck. Of the things that survived the wreck, Bliss' travel trunk survived, and inside it was an early copy of the song. Bliss had composed it, but has not yet written music for it. The fact that the song survived is nothing short of a miracle, as the train wreck caused a fire that practically cremated two thirds of the passengers on the train, of which many (like Bliss and his wife) were never found.
Thank you Good hymn, good theology, good rendition by Fernando Ortega. Tune composed by Rowland Prichard in 1830. Lyrics are written by Philip Bliss in 1876.
Me pressing LIKE to all the wonderful comments here. So refreshing to see beautiful people😍👏🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽. Thanks to this singer soooo pure so genuine sooo soothing.. takes me straight into Gods rest🙏🏽
Psalms 28:7 "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth, and with my song will I praise Him!"
It is Super Bowl Sunday this cold winter morning in New York. As I bowed my knees in prayer the wordings of this song came to me. I knew this is the kind of song Fernando sings so well. What a blessing hearing this wonderful song extol the virtues of Christ and the wondrous love that sent Him to the Cross. I am ever grateful that He forgave my sins and leads me as a Great Shepherd. Wonderful song, and great singing too. Hebrews 9:28
Beautiful! how could anyone not love this song? Thank You Jesus for your awesome love for all of us, when we didn't deserve any of it. God is so good!! Thank you Heavenly Father for giving Jesus to us.
vagabondsoul this is the theology of the Bible from beginning to end, the only gospel that can save a man's soul, without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sins. "All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Thanks be to Jesus for taking our punishment!
Cecil Huagie, "without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins." so suggest reading the whole verse and its context, rather than pulling out one line from the passage...
@@vagabondsoul substitution is a biblical doctrine. the only care you should be aware of is that he did not replace all people on the cross, only those who believe. but still he paid the redemption price for all. 1Pet 3:18: "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, *the just for the unjust,* that he might bring us to God, …"

Philip P. Bliss is the original author of this hymn and James McGranahan wrote the music. P.P. Bliss only wrote 3 verses and a fourth was added after by someone else.
I'm so glad this hymn survived that terrible accident. Hope to meet PP Bliss some day in Christ's kingdom. Bless you Lord Jesus for what you did for us on the cross. I'm so glad we will have all eternity to praise your holy name!
This song was found in the baggage of Phillip Bliss on the train in which he died. December 29, 1876, shortly after 7 p.m., a train pulling out of Ashtabula, Ohio puffed its way across a trestle. Suddenly the passengers heard a terrible cracking sound. The trestle snapped and eleven rail cars plunged seventy feet down into a ravine. Even before the wooden cars slammed into the bottom, they were aflame, set afire by kerosene heaters. Of the 159 passengers in those cars, 92 were killed and most of the rest suffered serious injuries. Bliss' wife was trapped in the wreckage and he could not get her out. He exited the car to get help but, seeing the flames, not one was willing to risk their lives. Phillip Bliss went back and, loving his wife, knowing he was loved by God, he held his wife close as the two perished in the flames and were embraced and welcomed by their Redeemer. What a welcome it must have been! 1 I will sing of my Redeemer and his wondrous love to me; on the cruel cross he suffered, from the curse to set me free. Sing, O sing of my Redeemer! With his blood he purchased me; on the cross he sealed my pardon, paid the debt, and made me free. 2 I will tell the wondrous story, how my lost estate to save, in his boundless love and mercy, he the ransom freely gave. I will praise my dear Redeemer, his triumphant power I'll tell: how the victory he gives me over sin and death and hell. 3 I will sing of my Redeemer and his heavenly love for me; he from death to life has brought me, Son of God, with him to be. Sing, O sing of my Redeemer! With his blood he purchased me; on the cross he sealed my pardon, paid the debt, and made me free.
Just sang "Wonderful Words of Life" by PP Bliss for worship this morning. I thought to myself, 'who is this guy? why did he die so young at the age of 38?' So I went into Wikipedia and found out he also wrote this hymn, "I Will Sing of My Redeemer." He wrote it right before he and his wife died from a train accident. This hymn survived the accident and fire in his trunk.
1.I will sing of my Redeemer, And His wondrous love to me; On the cruel cross He suffered, From the curse to set me free.
Refrain Sing, oh, sing of my Redeemer, With His blood He purchased me, On the cross He sealed my pardon, Paid the debt, and made me free. 2.I will tell the wondrous story, How my lost estate to save, In His boundless love and mercy, He the ransom freely gave. 3.I will praise my dear Redeemer, His triumphant pow’r I’ll tell, How the victory He giveth Over sin, and death, and hell. 4.I will sing of my Redeemer, And His heav’nly love to me; He from death to life hath brought me, Son of God with Him to be.

Some folks in my church sing this in an alternative tune- which I abhor. I absolutely love this version too; so uplifting and soothing.
