great to see more 1939 stuff!...i'm a g40 fan, but i must say the global war'39 seems something i want to try out...keep the videoes coming.also, keep up the good work @ work, those young ones can be a handful, but they are super important, our best bet for the future:)--fellow teacher :)
Molotov-Ribbentrov Treaty, yo! I dig the early start historically, could use it to persuade my "Game of Thrones" friends to play... shifty alliances, etc. I've contemplated using a D12 system, especially because of my upcoming "Long War Rules" units could use more specific dice rolls as Tech Advances...advance. I decided against it because the compexity might dissuade potential conscripts.... er, recruits... uhm, volunteers.
This map allows for almost limitless possibilities, and mixing in the special units, buildings, and facilities...sky's the limit! But yes, we do have to be careful about the complexity level dissuading newcomers. We want to grow the community, but also enrich our own gaming experience. Juggling act, to be sure!
Yeah, I understand using a d6 to introduce. The simplicity is attractive. What the d12 offers is options for little upgrades here and there that won't break the game, but will add some flavour, such as adding 1 to the first round of combat for specialized troops or weaponry. +1 on a d12 is only an 8.5% change, but 17% on a d6, which might prevent you from implementing some of the extras out of fear of tilting the game too much. But as long as people are playing A&A and building the community, we all benefit!
Yeah, with the D6 there is always a worry about over powering or under powering units. I also find the specialized units from HGB intriguing, and sometimes difficult to transfer to a D6. HGB used to put a D6 rules appendix to their specialized units, but they don't bother lately, so it becomes the thing of "divide by two, but now do I round down or up?"
I know this is an older video so it'll be unlikely you'll respond, but where did you get the polish and dutch units? If possible, could I have a link to them?
That is a long time ago, for sure, and even longer that I procured those pieces. I think they were just original A&A pieces that were painted...except the Polish infantry may have been from HBG. I think they are the Early Soviet infantry sculpts which I believe you can still get from Historical Board Gaming. Happy hunting!
I went to high school for two years before I got a GED and joined the Army instead..... high school just seemed boring and childish to me. I guess I just wanted adventure. Props for dealing with those kids, I obviously couldn't! Hell, I'm having all kinds of fun dealing with one 12 year old's mood swings. Couldn't imagine a class room full of them. Funny how little vandal's behavior is bizarrely analogous to Germany's in 1939, though!
Oh, and just for clarification, I said I didn't give Siam a fighter, but yet there's one there...? I meant to say "Saigon". Sorry for any confusion!

We actually are using 6D for now. Makes it a little easier for a couple of the guys with less experience.
