Stuff like this can drudge up the memories of people we love, trust me I know. No Way Home hit a little harder for me because my aunt passed away when that movie came out. Best we can do is keep them in our thoughts and know they would have appreciated these as much as we do.

A couple points from me as I just got home from seeing this.
    1. I thought the plot was decent honestly. It gave a believable reason for the duo to be back.
    2. It wasn’t just your pre screening my theater was eating this film up. Lots of laughs and some cheering.
    3. This movie may have had the best action I’ve seen since a John wick film.

Kind of sucks how underutilized he was. Which probably is one of the biggest flaws of the movie. As with a shorter runtime and more characters being added, it seems like they didn't know which ones to focus on. Whether it be the new squad from the last movie or the family members.

I am a huge fan of the Bad Boys franchise, BUT I have been overly disappointed with the character development of Marcus Burnett over the last 3 movies. In the original Bad Boys, Marcus was the comic relief, but he was still a competent cop. The comedic energy and timing in the first movie was perfect to me. It flowed within the concept of the plot and didn't feel forced. Since the second Bad Boys movie, they turned Marcus into more of a buffoonery character, who literally forgot how to be a cop, and whose only purpose was to be a comedic sidekick to Mike Lowery. Even during Reggie's scene, Marcus doesn't act like a man who is watching 15 men try to kill his family in real time. They turned him into a walking punchline, and while it may work for most, I've never been a fan of it. For that, the first Bad Boys will always be the best to me. With that being said, I’ll still be first in line for Bad Boys 5.

well damn, I had super low expectations, but after seeing this, I might have to go. what I typically don't like in modern films is the Netflix- looking Hyper stylized, clean looks. I know it's seen as High quality, but to me it cheapens things too much; like the Harder they fall was like that in a bad way for me, whereas They Cloned Tryone was that for the better. Grittiness especially for a action film makes it lit, like but you sold me on this.

Sorry. I just had to be the guy in the room to Ask, what's your problem with the critics that you're obviously trying not to refer to by name? Listen to the videos and the podcast that they do. You'd understand that they enjoy movies still and do understand that some movies are just enjoyable even though the writing is not great. A person should still be able to articulate the points and be able to break down scenes that aren't good or explain why the writing fails. Some people do find that entertaining. I love your work. I just don't understand why you keep taking the swipes at other critics now.

    • @Th3Birdman
      @Th3Birdman  2 месяца назад +7

That’s not how films are meant to be consumed. Not saying you can’t do that, simply that it isn’t the way the artists intended for them to be appreciated.
This form of “criticism” causes MASSIVE brainrot and everyone becomes a little mini-CinemaSins where everything they don’t immediately understand is a “plothole”, every little piece of dialogue is “bad writing” and blah blah blah. That shit is TRASH. Sorry you like trash but it is TRASH.
In 15-20 years, you’ll realize how bad this stuff is for the artform. To me, it’s surprising how people can’t see how shit film discourse actually is but we all get there eventually. In the mean time, take a creative writing or film course at your local community college and understand why these people don’t have a fucking clue what they’re talking about and why they don’t make films themselves.
And don’t say they don’t have the resources to make one because they DO in 2024. An iPhone is all you need and there was recently a film entirely produced on iPhone. Hell, I shot four vlogs entirely on iPhone so I know it’s possible.
There’s a reason they’re sitting on the sofa and not in the game.

@@Th3Birdman First thanks for taking the time to comment! I don't like to say there is a right way (or meant way) to consume media and while an artist has different ways that create film or intentions that does not excuse the criticism. Tho a critic should be able to acknowledge this and clearly state why they feel it did not work or how it effects the enjoyment of the movie. - I believe there are different ways people enjoy movies, music, ect. With that there are different ways people Judge/critique what they consume. There are movies like saving Privet Ryan that have such detailed writing and care in how it was made that, to me, when watched a second time that detail makes the film 10x better on rewatch. This can also, for me, easily ruin a movie. For others they only care about the action. - It is good to state that movies that are not intended for detailed criticism are not outright bad and do have other elements that factor into what makes a good movie. Most critics I watch for detailed reviews do feel and say this. I love detailed reviews and break downs that explains good or bad elements of a movie. Though some videos can go too far and will over praise or pick at elements I myself excuse but still find entertaining. -I think film discourse has always been the same we are just now more available and popular. Every critic I watch on RUclips reminds me of someone from my classes in high school, college, and theatre. From the person like me who talked about the smallest details to the critic who tries to add wild subtext into everything that happens. some are better than others yet none of us are right 100% of the time. Some just enjoy consuming the art form and don't have a desire to be a creator. However, unless they are making a vlog review most do add effort and have a skill to their videos. Some are like you with a solid understanding of editing and writing they use to express their opinion. I find this vastly different and preferable then current cinema sins. Another thing to add is most of those critics I value a bit of input from do write or are in a creative field outside of film. - I think what has become prevalent in film discourse is the parroting of telephoned ideas. Mainly by casual watchers, but this has been common in everything media wise. I understand the frustration though I don't see it the same way. Srry for long reply.

"I don't like to say there is a right way (or meant way) to consume media"
I don't know if there is a "right" way, but I do know the wrong way. As I explained, films are an entertainment artform. When you are in a concert, you are not concerned with the guitarist missing a few notes in a chord, because you are listening to the music, not the music theory. Why would you ever do this for film?
Film is meant to evoke emotion. To transport you to a different world and tell you a story. It's NOT the artist's intention for you to perform frame by frame analysis, like CinemaSins does, because what ends up happening is you stop a film from being able to plant seeds. Like plants, movies "plant seeds" that come to fruition later, and you cannot appreciate the fruit if you stopped at germination.
"and while an artist has different ways that create film or intentions that does not excuse the criticism"
Aside from factual errors, like the famous coffee cup in Game of Thrones, "criticism" is a subjective value judgement. Emphasis on SUBJECTIVE. There is no way to objectively measure the quality of a film. Therefore, this ridiculous form of "criticism" is no more correct than the people that turn their brains off and enjoy a summer popcorn flick. So, these films need no "excuse". Say whatever you want in a 4 hour "criticism" video. Doesn't make what you said correct.
"With that there are different ways people Judge/critique what they consume. There are movies like saving Privet Ryan that have such detailed writing and care in how it was made that, to me, when watched a second time that detail makes the film 10x better on rewatch"
You know the problem with this, don't you? How many of these channels dissect SPR? Oh? You mean they only do this to Marvel movies? Star Wars? Animation?
Yeah, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm very clearly talking about the people that sow discord in film discourse and rally their fans to harass, downvote, review bomb and troll. Saving Private Ryan has the SAME writing issues as other films. You don't know this because no one has done a deep dive on the film. If I even pointed out a few of those on this platform, what would invariably happen is people would rush to Rotten Tomatoes to shit talk the movie.
Well maybe not this platform. In general, my audience behaves like normal, rational humans.
"I think film discourse has always been the same we are just now more available and popular."
And you would be 100000000% incorrect. I am in my mid thirties. I've been on the internet in forums for over 20 years. Even 10 years ago, internet film discourse was not THIS bad. Today, you can't even express a like for a film without being called a shill. You people didn't know that word existed back then.
Rotten Tomatoes was a trusted website for TWENTY ONE YEARS until people were told not to like Captain Marvel by dickhead film "critics" on RUclips, and then, it became a cesspool so bad they had to create a new rule: your review won't count unless you've paid for the film through Fandago.
Review bombing is entirely a new phenomenon. It didn't exist prior to 2008. Channels like CinemaSins have created entire cultures around film that made stupid people that don't pay attention think they're smarter than they are, and thus, "I don't need to watch this movie because CinemaSins shit on it and I got to watch it for free".
"I think what has become prevalent in film discourse is the parroting of telephoned ideas. Mainly by casual watchers, but this has been common in everything media wise. I understand the frustration though I don't see it the same way."
Yeah, but where do you think this comes from?
Let's use yourself, as an example. Do you think consuming this type of content regularly has made you SMARTER (in the context of being able to analyze film)? Do you know what composition is? Do you know what a snap zoom is? Are you aware of the differences between 50mm and 35mm? Do you know why film uses 24 frames per second? What's foley? What is staging? What is 4:3 ratio? What's the difference between a monologue and dialogue? What is a treatment? Do you know the kind of framing "central framing" is, and which directors are famous for it? What is the difference between a RED camera and an IMAX camera?
If you're being honest with yourself and not having to resort to Google, you don't know the answer to most of those questions. But you've been consuming this type of content for what I can only presume is years, and yet, they never talk about these things, do they?
You see, there are SO, SO many different aspects to film than "oh, this character said something I didn't like" and "she shouldn't be strong enough to take out this guy". These people teach you nothing of value other than how to be a pedantic asshole that thinks they know more than the filmmakers. It breeds the kind of resentment we are currently having to deal with online.
I don't like it, sorry. I will continue to criticize this mess, and I don't care who has a problem with it. We can't even have a discussion about film without some culture war bullshit from these people. I'm sorry, but I'm OVER IT.
