After some unexpected medical expenses this year I had to dip into my emergency fund. I can’t WAIT until my six month emergency fund gets back so I can invest in my retirement again.

I wouldn’t stop contributing to retirement even if I had to rebuild my EF. No matter what I’m contributing 20% not including my pension.

@@MrRuben536you and I might have different risk profiles. It’s just me, so if I lose a job and don’t have cash…I’d have to dig into retirement funds, take out a loan, or be homeless.

I always try to find extra cash after an emergency. I hate being at risk.

I did this when I was just starting. Put some of the emergency fund in on on-line savings but the bulk in the Roth IRA in interest bearing cash and lower risk bond accounts. Happily I have never had an emergency that outstripped the on-line savings account so I have never needed to touch what was in the Roth Now that I have a higher income I am working on a full year of expenses in the on-line savings and as I do that the funds in the Roth will be invested in mutual funds which will help my retirement with this tax-free asset.

You absolutely have a chance. You just have to do something about it instead of 🙏'ing about it

@@rayzerot save and scrimp all you want but if there a repeat of the markets of 1966-1981 people need to pray. All this talk of investment models there are NO guarantees in life! NONE! And SSN may be reduced by the time I retire!

Retirement plan is simply NOT retire.
Investments crash and the value of savings plummets due to inflation.
The game is rigged and the only winning move is to NOT PLAY

it is rigged. the powers to be wants us to work until we die. I will save a ton but if my retirement drops 50 percent in the first year of retirement. I'll gladly use a reverse mortgage, social security, and the remaining savings to spend, and use Medicaid in the nursing home. I don't worry about running out of money. it's a time waster.

Investments also recover (as long as it's a broad index fund), as long as you don't touch it and wait. Inflation and decay hits you whether you like it or not, the only escape is death or living outside society.
