My brother is an engineer who wrote most of the software when the loch lomond distillery was automated many years ago. As a treat I've just bought a 21 year old loch lomond whiskey for me and him to enjoy as he had a hand in making it, in a roundabout way ☺

Watching back to this older episode after catching up on your current whiskey tribe vids (been a long time fan) - the laugh you have after saying how none of us will send you whiskey is awesome - now knowing how that turned out 😂

Was given 2 choices and free tasting, Loch Lomond 12yo vs Bruichladdich Classic Laddie. I cant find the Inchmurrin but i bought the 12YO for AUD69.99 after comparing the 2. Thanks for the recommendation on Loch Lomond, i couldn't stop drinking it since i bought it 2 hours ago. 1/3 gone... surprisingly rich and smooth for a 12yo, fruity on a sweeter note.

A shop nearby selling Loch Lomond Original for AUD50 (cant find the Inchmurrin unfortunately) and Loch Lomond 18 for AUD100. What would you recommend? Should i try the original one first or go straight to 18?

I got the regular 12. At first I didn't like it, thinking it was sickly sweet, but now down to the last 1/3rd of the bottle I'm finding it to be pretty exceptional. Super complex. Big smoke, earthiness like you mention here. Relatively new subscriber, and I catch the new episodes, but I'm really happy googling 'Whiskey Vault Loch Lomond' brought me here.

Sometimes going back and watching an old Episode, makes it feel like the character of Rex is being played by a different person who kinda looks like modern Rex.

I bought this, cause it was very affordable. I first tried it neat, and then with a drop of water. Drinking it neat, had a very noticeable burn, but with a bit of water, it became quite pleasant, with some very nice flavors. Well worth what I paid for it. Is this supposed to have a peat taste to it? It's not pronounced, but I think I taste it. Anyway, love your reviews. Keep em coming...

I bought a bottle and tried it - initial impression is that this is quite an aggressive whisky.
Even more when you add water.
I'm a new whiskey drinker and i think these higher-proof, stronger whiskys aren't for me - but it it's a nice flavour.
down proofed it's quite enjoyable as a sipper.

So Daniel and Rex, I just got a bottle of this and the flavor you tasted as Raspberry and Cherry, I think I got it down. It's peach sour ring candy. Sweet fruity with a little sour. Go back and try it sometime.

I have the 12 and I find it quite exceptional. To me, it has a nice, raspberry-chocolate taste to start and a mellow, smokey, finish that kind of lingers on the palate that I find quite enjoyable. I can't find the Inchmurrin to compare it to, but I'll keep searching.

I can get the Loch Lomond ‘original’, and the 12yr old for $20 and $28 locally. Lots of “experts” shit all over this distillery. I love it. If my choices are $20 dollars for Loch Lomond, or $60 for Glenlivet 12 (100% actual price in my area). I’ll drink the $20 bottle all day!

This is the only whiskey I've ever tried to date that I have actually disliked. The 12 that is. I've only tried a few scotches though.
Mclelland and a sample bottle of some higher end scotch.
I found it to be really pear heavy with an old gym sock flavour I couldn't get past.
    :'( 34 bucks.

I was very excited to try the 12yo Loch Lomond, but after watching and reading reviews I don’t really know what to think, you say it’s a quite good whisky, but there are some terrible reviews out there in pretty much all Loch Lomond expressions.
Some of the masterofmalt.com reviews are so disappointing, and also some of the comments on ralfydotcom videos.
I want buy it for my father because its the brand Captain Haddock drank in the Tintin albums and he’s a fanatic of Tintin (and scotch) but I’m really confused sbout its quality.

Woopize I noticed the same thing. After I got a bottle as a present and a friend recommended it, I did find it a really nice single malt. Also when you consider the pricepoint. Loch Lomond 12 is a real crowd pleaser. I also included it a few times in a whisky tasting and almost every participant praised it. Some even did find it the best whisky in the line up. However, some reviewers give it low scores, wich aren't really honest in my opinion. Loch Lomond was a low profile distillery for years and had a bit of a doubtful reputation. It seems like some reviewers still don't trust the distillery. Now they clearly stepped up their game with the new owners, they make interesting whiskies at higher strength (46°) and non-chillfiltered with an age statement. Let's support this noble ambition and enjoy this beautiful whiskies!

@@dirkt6921 I did some more research and at the end I think I'll have to try it and take conclusions on my own. And yes the price is so appealing. Probably next month I'll get a bottle :)

I'm surprised at how affordable Loch Lomonds range of whiskeys are (20-40) compared to Westland. Why do you think that is? Do you think it has to do with the process involved, or perhaps the limited amount of product? What types of things dictate price? Here's an interesting interview with the master distiller of Westland ruclips.net/video/HBa4u0c6cW0/видео.html
