We seal our windows and make sure the car has “winter” things. I live in NW GA and sometimes the South forgets to prepare for the bits of cold that we get. Prep on!🙏💜🙋🏻♀️
Also remember to wrap exposed water pipes! I ran out of foam last year but used newspaper with my fav "tool" Duct tape! Worked great. We use inexpensive sleeping bags unzipped as blankets, & others zipped for emergency car kit. Love the buried freezer idea! God bless you all! Pass the hot cocoa! Love in Jesus, JJ & Service Dog Ruthie✝️🙏💕🐕🦺😊
Down here near Houston, Texas we are supposed to be warmer and dryer this winter. So that means getting more things done in the garage, yard, and garden prep for next year. Plus with all the ongoing strife, being ready for anything and everything. As always: Be Prepared!
Just finished painting the house for Fall. Cleaned the gutters, put the garden to bed and emptied out rain barrels to put away. Doing last minute yard chores and shed organization of all planting material for spring planting. Car was just done at beg of Oct, will be adding warm gear to it this weekend, all being washed now. Going thru our battery supply tomorrow for grid down issues and then heading to the store for the heavy items that I do not want to carry in the snow. (Bottled water, large bags of dog food, etc.) 3 cords of wood put up just in case, nobody wants to be cold. Snow blower and generator are ready to go, along with the gas stored up safely.
I took some old sheets and sewed up the sides to cover the windows. Making hats and blankets with yarn. Time to start saving the boxes for grandma woods fireplace Nido and carnations instant breakfast makes good hot chocolate. Plus both are fortified for extra nutrition.
Buttoning up everything outside. Storing my hoses and automatic timers and sensors. Pruning back my pepper plants and replanting them in containers and put indoors. Pruning back lots of plants and hedges. Bringing more wood indoors for our nice cozy fireplace insert. Cutting back my strawberry plants and covering them with mulch bags. Cleaning out much of my garden to add grass and leaves from my lawnmower to shovel in the dirt for fertilizer. Seems like this is a never ending prep for winter, tomorrow I have another goal of pruning, getting close, just have to laugh. Good luck with your preps, thank you for all you do Jonathan and Kylene. Happy trails!
I have plenty of dried oak, prepped the car and truck, planted a huge winter garden due to possible supply chain issues and plenty of greens for the chickens this winter, solar charged and ready in the faraday box and most important, plenty of coffee to make power or no power. God Bless
If you have whole house electric heat, learn how to winterize your home in the event of a prolonged power outage, i.e. antifreeze for toilets and sink traps, etc.
I calked the windows a couple weeks ago, I still need to cover the ac but that only takes 5 minutes, Propane tank is full. Both pickups are checked over and good. I will fall fish until it ices up , then onto ice fishing and rabbit hunting. Very good video
Having spent decades living in CT, I understand the preparations for the winter season. I am glad you made this video. We are now in Southern California where winters are much milder, but recently, temps have been cooler year round. We need to be prepared.
Well, kids...I got nuttin on this one. 😆😆My watermelons and tomatoes are loving this weather. It's been in the mid to high 80's during the day, and 60's at night. This has actually gave me a little joy, seeing them growing, right along side of the cabbages. I got my potato seeds in today. I usually plant the 1 day of January. But, if we are going to be on the warm side this winter, I may give just plant them at the end of Nov. That will be a wonderful new years blessing. GOOD news, the trees are getting removed from my greenhouse on Friday. So, I can get started on those repairs. The house, ummm, no change. We still don't know when those repairs will begin. But, I could have a new kitchen for Thanksgiving...maybe?!? 😊😊
We are prone to power outages. Part of my winter checklist is checking on the supply of propane, butane, emergency food, first-aid supplies, and medications, checking autos and have emergency supplies in and ready to go, snow chains are checked and ready, emergency lighting, supplies for my pets, checking with my snow plow guy to make sure I am still on his list, checking emergency water supply, checking on my solar generator and solar chargers for phones, snow shovels are checked and ready, etc.
Even though I live in southern New England-Long Island to Be exact. Your advice is really good. Some of which I never thought of. I don’t have enough room for a broken freezer but I can burry a large cooler. And your idea of covering the beets is terrific. Thank you
My husband has been working on these things this past week. He is out putting the snow blower on the lawn mower at this time. I am still canning and working on inside stuff. We kept saving the little tomato plants that came up in the garden so we ended up with a ton of tomatoes. I have been trying to give them away but have only had a little luck on that.
I bought me a rice cooker and a sixth court slow cooker the slow cooker is for my soups and stews for the winter time I've already got jars ready to go so when I'm ready to make my soups and stews I am ready to jar them up and put them in the the canner
Well, I don’t have much on this one because I’m in sunny warm Florida. I do have an electric blanket and a wool blanket and a down comforter for those 3 days of winter that we get. I also own two sweaters, one for the car and one for the house. And believe it or not I do own a winter coat, just in case. My autoimmune disease doesn’t like temperatures below 70, but I’m happy to live in a place where that’s not a real problem. Hurricanes, yes, they’re a problem and people here will be recovering from back to back Helene and Milton for a very long time. I am so thankful to have only minor damage and I can still live in my house while repairs are made. So many others here are much less fortunate. I’ve just restocked food and water preps now that the stores are getting supplies again. I’ve also added a few extras in the event of civil unrest in the next few weeks, so that I won’t have to leave home for quite a while if needed. Crossing my fingers we won’t have a problem. And I sure hope you all have an uneventful winter.
Many years ago I moved from New England to Georgia where I could get by most winter days with a hooded sweatshirt and a jean jacket. I could always tell folks from Florida by their big, heavy parkas. To them, 40 degrees must have felt like 10 or 15. No laughing, just marveling at how we get used to our environments. I'm back in New England, watching my kids wander around the house in shorts when it's 65 or less inside when there's snow on the ground and I'm all bundled up. Please remind me why I live where the air hurts my face. 🥶
We so enjoy your videos...as for our winter prep's...well we live where it's so dang hot for a good chunk of the year that when "winter" finally shows up, it's the time to get most outdoor jobs done like pouring concrete or building a shed, working on the house or a vehicle... I guess it's way different when ya live, not in hell...but we can see it out there 😂😅
You guys are the best. Someday, I would love to meet you in person. My wife and I live so close to you. One day, maybe we will run into you somewhere. Take care.
@TheProvidentPrepper thank you for the information. I have searched for an answer for a long time and could not find an answer. Love your channel. Your neighbor from Sandy , Utah
Make sure she has good insulated winter coat and several sets of hat and gloves;able to layer up with short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, hooded sweat shirt, water resistant jacket; 0 degree sleeping bag,; solar/ wind up / usb charged flashlight, lantern, and radio; back up battery bank for her phone; first aid kit; cold/flu/allergy medicines; a purse size multi-tool; personal alarm or whistle to carry in purse or pocke; , folding one gallon water containers (she can fill up before any storms and fold down and put away when not needed); thermos; shake hand warmers (check hardware or sporting goods stores); and either backpacking freeze dried meals or cooked canned food items to keep for emergencies (may need to replace occasionally as kids tend to deem emergencies as any time they are hungry or do not want to go out to campus dining room), and she should be fine.
Winter? Seriously? That's anticlimactic. Not nearly as interesting as hordes of zombies or Russians parachuting out of the sky. Winter? BOOOORING! Lol. However it seems Winter is more likely to happen. Thus you make valid and interesting points. Lol. Love your channel. Seriously do.
LOL! You make an incredibly good point. IF we were interested in hype and scare tactics that would be exactly what we would do. We just love you guys and think that realistic preps are the way to go. Doom scrolling is bad for your mental health. Thanks for joining us!
I care! There are so many good people in our country. We need to unite and take care of each other. We have every reason to hope and believe that the best is yet to come.
Waiting for winter to arrive here in Florida. The fall was brutal with 2 hurricanes. A lot of people here are exhausted. My daughter and her family were without power for 14 days, and no water for 23 days (a fallen tree not only took out the power line, but the uprooted tree also took out the water main). It is still too hot and muggy to open windows. 90% humidity even at just 80 degrees sucks big time. Please send some cooler weather this way. The people in NC simply did not understand what was coming their way, and FEMA's response was totally pathetic at best. I think politics was at play.
@@user-bi8ko7kc6h I agree. Hot weather in the US is more tolerable than extreme cold. But both will kill: one just takes longer but adds more misery on the front end.

I'm getting in a load of wood for the fireplace.
Ive salvaged a couple propane bottles that i can share with my family if their central heating stops working. We heat with wood predominantly.
I bought 3 new blankets this year. I didn't really realize how thin my bed comforter was until I used the new one and woke up sweating.

Oh, and good insulated winter boots with wool or thick hiking socks
and granola or breakfast bars
at least one pair leggings to wear under jeans in extreme cold days or a pair of water resistant sweat or athletic pants to wear over jeans
