Amazing. There comes a point when an artist is so inspired, bold and committed that anything they produce is worth paying serious attention to, and learning of new material is such an exciting event. Only wine and Polly get better with age.
I think the album is uneven but Community of Hope makes me cry every time I hear it - such a brutal, wonderful anthem for the marginalised - it baffles me that people read it so wrongly. And at 46 she looks more beautiful than ever.
I've seen it described as cynical, sarcastic and bleak, whereas to me it's angry, defiant and compassionate (an impression which comes from the music and the surrounding material rather than the lyric). Could just be me seeing what I want to see, of course.
weepingcross I don't think what you describe means that people are reading it " so wrongly " Just interpreting it differently to how you feel it's meaning to be, everyone has their own individual take ...
Yes, and if I'm correct that's the only piece of interview she did for the whole 2016 despite her album reaching number one. She's one of a kind, really.
Thank you for including the portion of the interview. Deeply saddened she only booked two gigs in the U.S. I don't live anywhere near them. Loving the new album and the message behind it. I've been reading negative articles and comments about the style and choice of her lyrics that she expresses about the casualties we face in our world. I see nothing wrong with them. They paint a very clear picture of what she is singing about. I guess they find comfort and understanding from lyrics about getting turnt up in a club with a big booty assed girl who will give it up on the first date.
This is how art is made in through the heart and mind and out the mouth ...not shaking your ass and singing about who`s on top I suppose there's a place for that but it's nice there's thinking music, as well as sh shake it off..
Who'd of thought Marr was a PJ fan lucky git gets to watch a personal appearance.Let England Shake was such a remarkable piece of music anything Polly did next was as always going to divide opinions. Not sure whether the whole public art space recording thing was beneficial but I like this record a lot and the more I listen the better it gets.
As I wrote above. Her first performance last night on this tour reminded me of her 95 era!! She's playing loads of old stuff to bring u my love etc... And mostly prancing around amazing with a microphone (like the 95 era) this tour will be her best in years
Is it bad not to mention the music first? I always felt she became prettier the older she got but don't think she suits this image or hairstyle. Ps - not actually bothered about talking about her music; we all know it's amazing ;)
Don't understand why she doesn't use her voice in low register anymore. She doesn't even use lower voice when playing her old songs from 90s (which require low voice). Feels like she's holding back for some reason.
lets be real, shes singing about people singing for their salvation and in their little world even a wallmart (in there eyes) would be the seed to transform their community.
+spitfirefrench My point was that when the Walton's came here, they promised 6 stores, 3 east of the river which they never built. It was a big deal: first is wages. They came to DC at a time when the minimum wage bills in DC and the inter MD counties were making a pact for $11.50. Second is having any place could to work and to shop. I drive Uber so I know this: I pick up and drop off Wallmart workers who have to spent an hours wage getting to and from the stores.
Samantha S it was promised they would build east of the River in order to get around the vast opposition to even being allowed to build in DC. They lied.
So do you think the last line of the song is hopeful in an ironic way -- "They're gonna put a Walmart here." Like to show how things are so devastated that even building a Walmart would improve things?
Watch her first live show from last night, it all makes sense and her set list is the best in years! She's mostly singing without a guitar and being expressive like her 95 era plus playing saxophone .... Amazing
I think the thing we all expect when P.J. puts out a new record is a big departure from the previous one. I don't see that so much this time. She's kind of travelling the same roads just taking different avenues cos she still has an axe to grind with the world with regards to the mindless warring, violence and suffering that goes on. Good on her!!!!!
Hmm, I do not think that you can speak for me when you say "we all expect" I expect absolutely nothing when it comes to polly's exquisite music, she always resonates with me in such a beautiful way, but my feeling isn't so strong with her new songs, I do not have any rational reason why I feel so... Making any criticism or judging PJ just isn't an option for me, I love and respect her too much : )
***** What I mean is she never stays in the same place for long and always moves into other areas musically and lyrically. Every record has been quite different from the previous one (that's what I mean by expect). This time I found the narrative especially to be very similar to the last record which surprised me a little. My opinion of P.J. Harvey is she can do no wrong and as a songwriter myself I don't think there's anyone I pay closer attention to. I think "The wheel" is a great song as is "Near the memorials to Vietnam and Lincoln." But this isn't the record I'll put on to introduce P.J. Harvey to anyone who is unfamiliar with her work.
Doesn't work for me. It's not the irony of the lyrics, or the subject matter, it's the detached manner of the delivery. She has to be in there, involved - Civil War Correspondent was far more effective as a protest song. Performances of early stuff like Rid Of Me & Rub Till It Bleeds were masterpieces, extraordinary & downright scary. I understand what she's trying to do, but I just don't think it works. But she must progress (she always has) & I'm hopeful I can engage with her next incarnation.
songwriter? AND.... does the opening 3 chord 'riff' sound familiar?? its none other than , you won't see me by the beatles :)) everyone is a thief and she is no different
After 60-odd years of rock music, pretty much every possible chord progression has now been used, so that seems like a very pedantic criticism. But this doesn’t even sound like the Beatles at all tbh.
I’m afraid me talking is a waste of time. Similar age to pj and I admire her so much, my opinion maybe skewed. But for what it’s worth, one day she’ll get the recognition she deserves. Strong Dorset woman is pj. Very lucky that there are ‘us’ that recognises this. I recommend listening to pj on John peel sessions, particularly rid of me 1991 or 92. Incredible x
I really wanted to like this album but can't get into it. It feels like a pale shadow of Let England Shake, which for me is one of, if not the best album ever made.
Ohh oh ...I never bullshit..always resist..but Woman you dont was in COUNTRY KOSOVO... if you arent able to learn something its shame...like song...its shame pj ...
Every interview she is soft-spoken and polite.
That's because she is the goddess of the universe and way too powerful and if she speaks too loudly everything will be instantly destroyed.
she only gets more beautiful with time
love the voice she started developing in White Chalk
No pero igual la queremos
@pucorka Surgery? Get help.
@pucorka Bud, there's no reason to assume she's had surgery. Present your evidence, and/or piss off.
even without the full band, PJ can carry this song with impact!
I THINK SOUNDS BETTER HERE.
you're not vong ! :O)
Ben shawyer lol 😝
Not just a musician. A true artist. I would go as far as spiritual leader - when she's truly channeling - which isn't always, but, most of the time.
Amazing. There comes a point when an artist is so inspired, bold and committed that anything they produce is worth paying serious attention to, and learning of new material is such an exciting event. Only wine and Polly get better with age.
Thanks pj harvey for your words and musical notes. I love your sound
I think the album is uneven but Community of Hope makes me cry every time I hear it - such a brutal, wonderful anthem for the marginalised - it baffles me that people read it so wrongly. And at 46 she looks more beautiful than ever.
In what way do people "read it so wrongly" ?
I've seen it described as cynical, sarcastic and bleak, whereas to me it's angry, defiant and compassionate (an impression which comes from the music and the surrounding material rather than the lyric). Could just be me seeing what I want to see, of course.

Ah, I've become less tolerant and understanding with age!
Ah, age. I'll forgive you then ...
( big smiles : )
This album live at Primavera was fucking amazing. Performance with a full band and brass section is a must!
Wow!- Nice to have her intro included relevant to her interesting songwriting approach. Great song.
Yes, and if I'm correct that's the only piece of interview she did for the whole 2016 despite her album reaching number one. She's one of a kind, really.
Talento puro !
Genius At Work.
such a great artist..
Her outfit is amazing, she's had a complete glow up but her vocals still sounds the same
Love you PJ!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏼💖
gorgeous. love her voice !
Thanks for uploading the lot! And so quickly! Much joy, thanks!
So beautiful ❤️
What a great performance!
THANKS ANDREW MARR
The sexiest woman that has ever lived
I'd never much liken PJ to Billy Bragg but the jangle of this tune and lyrical content reminds me of some of his work. She's ace anyway.
Bravo!!!

So cool and talented. Lovely person.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic voice.

WOOOOOoooOOOOOWWWWW!; simply
She is extraordinary . On stage, only she and the instrument , and do not need anything more .
Wow. She IS good.
Que voz en vivo!!!
bright human being
VIVA LA REINA
I miss the PJ from the nineties.
me too! wat is this album???
So much. Last 3 albums are so boring :(
"Let England Shake" is so full and rich. I can't imagine a PJ fan categorising it as boring.
As I wrote above. Her first performance last night on this tour reminded me of her 95 era!! She's playing loads of old stuff to bring u my love etc... And mostly prancing around amazing with a microphone (like the 95 era) this tour will be her best in years
Just like many miss the Dylan form the ´60´s:) But Hey, the music is still here with us!:)
It's like the new protest folk music, like in the 60s
"They're gonna put a WalMart here" ??? 3:45
Yup 😂😂😂
I couldn’t figure that out. Thanks @AdrianLabastida
Needs more distortion hehe :)
song starts 2:01

PJ Harvey currently not stocked in Walmart.
Walmart barely stocks music at all now. All they have are the biggest pop and country albums these days.
Michael Mullins - I believe the comment is tongue in cheek because of the last line of the song: “There gonna put a WalMart here.”
she playing a fender jaguar?
Is it bad not to mention the music first? I always felt she became prettier the older she got but don't think she suits this image or hairstyle. Ps - not actually bothered about talking about her music; we all know it's amazing ;)
Well, first time I've heard PJ censored. Could'ave said "craphole" no?
this is what angelina jolie would be like if she had talent.
I was hoping to see the chords for the chorus but the camera man decided to do a close up of her face every time! grrrr
Don't understand why she doesn't use her voice in low register anymore. She doesn't even use lower voice when playing her old songs from 90s (which require low voice). Feels like she's holding back for some reason.
Polly Jean, they did not put a Wallmart here east of the river. come back and see. we's hurting in the DMV.
lets be real, shes singing about people singing for their salvation and in their little world even a wallmart (in there eyes) would be the seed to transform their community.

Would Walmart have helped things in the area?
Samantha S it was promised they would build east of the River in order to get around the vast opposition to even being allowed to build in DC. They lied.

Name that guitar

+tecdessus thanks

I'm a big fan of Polly and love her work so much, but for some reason, as much as I have tried I just cannot connect with
this album ...
i agree first album of hers ive not liked at all
Watch her first live show from last night, it all makes sense and her set list is the best in years! She's mostly singing without a guitar and being expressive like her 95 era plus playing saxophone .... Amazing

So brave and so such a voice for the LGBT community.
oh my what has happened to pj harvey

What happens when a song writer becomes an activist.
songwriter? AND.... does the opening 3 chord 'riff' sound familiar?? its none other than , you won't see me by the beatles :)) everyone is a thief and she is no different
No. The chord sequence is not the same.
After 60-odd years of rock music, pretty much every possible chord progression has now been used, so that seems like a very pedantic criticism. But this doesn’t even sound like the Beatles at all tbh.
Singing about America's problems! Where is Sharpton and Jackson?
sorry pj kosovo is not a country! it is a southern province of Serbia
Fuck off
Kosovo is part of Serbia.Respect it!
I love PJH but that's easily the worst song I've ever heard from her. Bleurgh

shes still stunning

what a voice, holds her own just like Richard Ashcroft does
7 years too late but i had that exact comparison too. Would be groundbreaking if they collabed
Ohh oh ...I never bullshit..always resist..but Woman you dont was in COUNTRY KOSOVO... if you arent able to learn something its shame...like song...its shame pj ...
