This is a fine tone and beautiful playing. I performed this RV on mumblephone back in the day - barely remember it. The tone of the Buffet stays in the head forever. Thank you.
Bonjour. Merci beaucoup pour cette interprétation with a french bassoon (Buffet). You have à very Good technic with this instrument. Bravo pour cette interprétation.
Bravo, Howard! Thank you! From my student years, I wanted to master the French bassoon system in parallel with the German one. But it seems that my desires will remain a sweet dream.
The player makes a radical difference in each case, of course, but so does the instrument. I have yet to hear a satisfactory rendering of a Vivaldi bassoon concerto with the featured part performed on a bassoon of the "Heckel" type. It's so sad that the Buffet Crampon operation has shut down and even, so I hear, that the leading French bassoon professorship is now held by a player of the German bassoon.
It's not all bad news John, Buffet are still making excellent bassoons, but there are two NEW manufacturers also in AJ Musique and Ducasse. The CNSMD has professors of both systems with a great new generation of French players coming through.
@@HowardDann, Thank you Mr Dann, it's good to have the information as well as an opinion such as yours. When Boosey & Hawkes sold the Buffet name and the new owners announced that Buffet bassoons would now be made in Germany and, moreover, that they had redesigned the instrument I took it that the death-knell of the system had been sounded.
@@johnl4657 The clarinet production moved to the German Schreiber factory but the bassoons are still made in Mantes-La-Ville, Paris. I believe it's very much a scaled down operation, however.

And the Cecil James award for outstanding British French System Bassoon goes to... Howard Dann! Bravo, very nice indeed.
Bless you for such kind words, that means a lot!
