    i love silver mercury dimes, such a beautiful coin, bought 1000 of them

      that price for those dimes you listed also is very expensive, due to their supposedly quality. normally that amount should cost 74.61 dollars not exact. i've found that most coins on amazon have a much larger premium than buying from a place for example apmex

    Mercury dimes should be classified as "Numismatic" because they get a higher premium than Roosevelt dimes, meaning they cost more per dime and at the same time are so worn that, while 14 1964 rosies would make approximately one ounce of silver it would take maybe 15 or 16 Mercurys to weigh one ounce. So when tshtf who will give a damn about Mercurys when you want a loaf of bread? A smart dealer will weigh them for silver content.

    I just bought my first Pamp Suisse Fortuna silver bar the other day. I paid a premium and it's only 50 grams but it's something I plan on keeping in my wallet just in case. Came in assay packaging with authenticity serial numbers etc. From now on I may just stick to junk silver.

    Those US silver dimes are the now US silver dollars. They're worth more than a buck each. The old US silver dollars are now worth more than 11$. Junk Silver dollars sell for as much as 20$+ although their scrap/junk/salvage is +-11$.
    The 90% Mercury dimes each contain 1.16$ worth of silver. Odds are better to win anything from a lottery scratch off ticket than to locate a silver dime in your pocket change. Pre 1965, US, 90% silver coins have been checked and rechecked for any value beyond their scrap/junk value. FYI Another good waste of time is to buy coin rolls thinking you'll find a stray 90% coin. Automatic coin counters differentiate and isolate US silver coins from the new US worthless coins. ---- Pre 1965 dimes contain silver worth 1.16 ---- 1965 to current date dimes contain .01 worth of metal (no silver at all). The Sheeple have been scammed and waiting to get scammed again. Go cashless and Sheeple will receive what their Shepard allows. The Sheeple's wealth is already virtual. Sweet dreams until the Shepards tighten the grip on their ball bags. It can't happen here. Sleeeeep relaaaax

    "junk" silver makes it sound worthless. It is only different from bullion because it has 10% copper in it. Sterling silver is similar because 92.5% is real silver rather than 90% like junk silver. I like junk silver because it can be the cheapest to get if you buy some coin rolls and find some since you are getting them at face value.

    how come everybody thinks are going to take a silver coin they're going to make the configurations in the math and give you what you want no you take your silver and you're going to trade it for fiat currency. End of discussion even if it's a million-dollar note all it's really going to do is keep your buying power but you're still going to have to use Fiat and not to mention the government may just say turn it in and then no one will even be able to get Fiat for it you're better off stockpiling corn and in a real crisis situation you'll trade 15 oz of gold for a can of corn

      You are so wrong. Govt won't take away our gold or silver now. We won't let them because now as opposed to the past we don't trust them. In a barter world silver will probably equal close to where it was when the dollar finally died. What do you think it would take silver to get to so it kills the dollar? 250 an oz maybe. 500oz. Who know but if so it will be traded as that much. Gotta remember prices will drop but everything would be more expensive in relation to how little silver is out there compared to dollars and digits now days. So figure a days hard labor pays 15 an hour $120 in a day. Well if dollar died millions would be jobless so they could prob pay 60 to 80 for same job as their will be hundreds wanting your job. Also big stores would be cleaned out so farmers markets would increase 10 fold or more. Silver would be the new money like in days past but worth far more. Since now it might take 3 days or more to earn 1 oz of silver. Whether im way off in my thinking or not. What could it hurt to stash 100 oz away. Just forget you got itl if need it awesome. If never, no biggie

    Beautiful mercury dimes. A part of history that should have never died. I am also interested in how this is used in a currency crisis. How did electric bills, water bills and property taxes get paid when there was a loss of confidence in currency? Did they accept silver as payment or just more of paper currency?

      Many people paid with goods they grew,
      raised, or made...
      Others just stopped paying and if someone
      came around attempting to collect they would
      be run off with a shotgun and most never returned
      to try again...!

    You paid 13.99 per ounce for the UK junk coins? If I heard that correctly, that would translate to $28 per ounce of silver, which is ridiculous if you recently bought it. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, it hardly makes a difference if you can afford it, but if someone is looking for better prices then buy 1964 Roosevelt dimes as they are very available so prices are not too high.

    • @TheModernSurvivalist
      @TheModernSurvivalist  8 лет назад +2

      Hi, that was 13.99 per oz of pure silver, not per oz of 50% silver. I bought it for a bit under spot at the time.

    Why get excited over 90 % silver coins.
    Will any merchant want them in trade.
    .999 % silver coin and you got a winner in trade.

    • @billrundell2097
      @billrundell2097 8 лет назад +1

      When you can have .999 silver, who will want 80% silver in old coins.
      When you have a Silver eagle or possible another .999 minted coin, when going to the store
      you are going to have a winning purchase every time.
      When people are like me and will not want to deal with every possible coin of 50% silver to 80% silver.
      There will end up at least a dozen different coins with different different percentages of silver.
      At this point the accounting problems become astronomical.
      I see one exception to this is the Mercury Dime. 100% silver. What is the weight of the Mercury dime?
      I encounter problems with getting correct change from from a $20. Just thing of the greater problems of
      FRACTIONAL silver contents.
      The answer to change from a Silver Eagle is a store credit slip. Store are reluctantly accept a $ 50 today.
      What chance is there of them accepting a $ 1400 Gold Eagle???? Hmmmm
      Buy .999 silver. Why not invest in .999 purity coins over fractional silver coins.
      Makes little "cents" sense to me.

      Silver eagles are boring. And I an bored to death of them. I would like to buy many types of silver rounds. Since my retirement with a currency collapse, I will go to my grave before i would be able to barter with rounds, bars or junk silver,
      Silver coins .999 pure offer the best possibility of retail trade. They will be the standard unit. There will be many fake bars and rounds. Having to go to a mental dealer and being charged 10-20 % is difficult to do.
      I have 1100 silver eagles and growing.. If Gold makes a plunge to $ 100 oz I will by 4 or 5 Gold Eagles. More if the price remains low. Silver remains the best value right now for many reasons.
      +++++++Why is junk silver the better investment for the future currency collapse?+++++++++++++

    • @amartin8345
      @amartin8345 8 лет назад

      bruh were talking about an economic collapse...u don't want to seem like a silver horder...that's where the dusty junk silver comes in

    • @billrundell2097
      @billrundell2097 8 лет назад

      I have over 1000 silver eagles. I just bought 20 more from X company. $460 for 20.
      When the Mercury dimes were minted in the 1930-1940's, were only worth
      2 nickles.
      When the crash comes, the Mercury dimes will be seen again at the retail
      stores as worth only 2 nickles.
      There are about 6 to 10 silver coins in US mint with different silver values.
      What merchant is going to examine every coin and determine it's silver content
      and worth. What shopper is going to accept a dime in exchange for $2-5 in change.
      But show up with a .999 1 oz. silver eagle, you have a winner every time.
      Silver bars can have fake copper-brass centers.
      Rounds also have a large number of fakes.
      Eagles can be easy be examined for authenticity.
      Why invest in dusty junk silver when Bright New Silver Eagles are the top silver coins to own?
      I just don't get it. Please explain. Please. Teach this old dog something.
      Silver eagles are boring, I get that.

    • @amartin8345
      @amartin8345 8 лет назад +1

      +Bill Rundell I get what ur saying that pure silver bullion is more recognized as something of value rather than an old dime...but junk silver does has its purpose...when the crash starts there will be mass chaos in some areas...u want to blend in with the rest of the people and not seem like the wealthy person you are...I will be using old dimes during this time and hold on to my Shiney new bullion coins for when things settle down
