The 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring is an excellent three row SUV, and when you consider that this fully loaded Subaru Ascent was just a hair under $50k, which undercuts the popular Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade in their top trims, as well as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, you start to see why this Subaru Ascent is so popular among other three row SUVs. But it's not the value that's the most impressive aspect of the Subaru Ascent, it's the day to day livability and experience. The Subaru Ascent Touring drives and rides better than most of its competitors, and its incredibly simple to use as well as being one the safest vehicles in the class. Sure, the Subaru Ascent is kind of dorky looking when many of its competitors, like the Kia Telluride and new Chevy Traverse, are cranking up the style, but there's an honesty to the way the Subaru Ascent operates that makes it great. We love the supportive and comfortable seats in the Subaru Ascent, the controlled ride, and the versatile use of space... and of course Subaru's excellent symmetrical all-wheel drive. It's not all perfect, though. Aside from the frankly silly styling, the powertrain is only moderately powerful and fuel efficient (but quite smooth), and the Starlink infotainment system is a major weak point. It looks outdated, it's slow and clumsy at times, and some of the AC controls are screen-only, which is never a good thing. But despite those complaints, both of us agreed that we'd happily own and drive the Subaru Ascent Touring trim. For our tall family's needs, it checks all of the boxes and comes with the versatility people love so much about Subaru. Don't judge a book by its cover, and definitely don't judge the Subaru Ascent by its styling. It might not turn heads like the new Chevy Traverse or the refreshed Ford Explorer, but it's giving you all of the things for less money... and the ride/handling balance of the Subaru Ascent is our favorite after maybe the Chevy Traverse. It's that good. Don't knock the Subaru Ascent until you try it!

We just bought a new Ascent and love it. Traded in our 2012 Outback. Once you're behind the wheel the ride and drivability are great. These seats are wonderful. The touring is quiet and a pleasure to be in. If I'm still around in 12 years I'll probably buy another Subaru

@@jax1079 I am trying to decide between the Ascent Touring and the Pathfinder Platinum. Having reviewed your reviews on both vehicles, I am guessing you would recommend the Ascent over the Pathfinder?
@@sansin6250 Yes. You might be more likely to find a deal on the Nissan Pathfinder, but we prefer the ride and seat comfort in the Ascent. Space is about the same, tech isn't much different. Megan does love the looks of the Pathfinder more than the Subaru Ascent, but that's about it.
I have a 2021 Ascent Touring and it’s my third mid size 3 row SUV. Prior to this I had an Explorer ST and a Pilot Elite. I was very reluctant to consider Subaru after two SUV’s that disappointed me. The Explorer seats were not comfortable, gas mileage was low but what killed it was the small gas tank too and the Honda was just tippy and a little sluggish on acceleration even with a solid 6 cylinder engine and 9 speed transmission. The Susie had that uggh, 4 cylinder engine and a CVT…But driving it changed my mind. The 4 cylinder boxer engine along with other things makes the Ascent not tippy at all, but very predictable and enjoyable to driver. The seats are absolutely great esp compared to both the Honda and Ford…I’m taller and the seat with thigh extension is a huge plus…more like the seating in my BMW. The gas mileage for a non hybrid was really pretty good and the gas tank size along with good mileage gives it good range. Everything for the most part ( a few quirky exceptions) is where you’d expect it to be. And it’s 5 star crash rated and reliable too. Out of the three it’s proven by far the most reliable I’ve owned. And Subaru service has proven just as good, maybe even better than my experience with Honda service. A nice surprise. I highly recommend this as long as you are looking to mostly accommodate no more than 4 adults…the 3rd row is really kid land.

After a lot of consideration and thought (4 years later) 😂 we traded our 2020 Forester Sport for an Ascent Touring. Our third Subaru as a family in 10 years. They drive sooooooooo much better than anything else in the class.
It truly is excellent. We both value different aspects of the vehicle experience, and we were shocked by how much each of us really enjoyed certain characteristics of the Subaru Ascent Touring. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

Subaru Ascent. Excellent ride and incredibly practical. Megan likes the way the Pathfinder looks a lot, but I think we'd both rather actually live with the Subaru Ascent. Infotainment is a weak point, but the Pathfinder isn't winning any contests in that regard, either.

Better handling with a boxer engine for sure.
Definitely helps that it sits low in the chassis, but I wonder how much of an effect it has on the Subaru Ascent's excellent ride quality.
