Your work on Tom's music is phenomenal Evan. I know others will disagree but I think Tom IS the GOAT. He spits TRUTH & his bars always have a deep message. The guy's a genius.
You really should have so many more subscribers. Your work is amazing! Granted I'm basing that entirely off Tom MacDonald's music but I feel that's a large enough sampling to know you're a master of your art.
Wow thanks for the kind words! I'm not too worried about the subscribers. I just really like youtube and watch it a lot. I thought I was time I contributed to it instead of just consume. I like making these videos once in a while as it flexes a slightly different muscle than working on music all the time. I find it fun and refreshing!
I found you through Matthew Runaway and I knew Tom has mentioned that you mix and master his stuff but now that I've found your channel I can actually see what kinda stuff goes into making it sound so great. Your awesome bro
Everytime I'm mastering my vocals I always try to think. What would evan do? Thanks again for sharing. Tom's like my favorite artist it's really cool that you share these mixing tutorials
that makes me so happy to hear man!! what would I do? probably add a bunch of top end, compress the crap out of it and send it to 5 reverbs 😂. Thanks for the love man!
ya! I've had a few people ask me about that. Definitely something I'll look into. I'd just want to make sure it was actually bringing value to people. Templates are hard because any settings are so dependent on the source sound, you know?
This is a dumb question. I'm not a music guy/engineer, etc, but just curious. When Tom writes and records his songs, when he gives it to you, does he actuallly say, hey cut my lyric here, here, and here and add a reverb, or something funky effect here or is it more like here's my song and do your thing and I'll listen later and then make we can make suggestions on things to add, remove, or change?
What is that mic you‘re using for your voice? Do you manually edit out the feedback or are you not listening via the monitors while recording the video?
I do! I co-write, produce, mix and master all of Brandon's stuff, so its more involved then Toms stuff, which I only mix and master. Brandon's such a cool artist and aways has such cool ideas for blending sounds and Genres
@@jsknapp6161 Thanks so much for you questions man! ya I love 80s music and I love the 80s revival thing thats going on right now. The Midnight is my favourite current band at the moment, and most of my biggest influences are from the 80s (Prince, The Cure, Tears For Fears...). 'Dreams' and 'Nightmares' are 2 more Brandon Hart songs this a darker 80s vibe. I was super into Stranger Things season 1 when we wrote those and you can definitely hear it in the Synth choices...😂
@@stevemiller1047 no can do brother! Tom, Nova and Madchild recorded they're vocals at Tom place, set the Autotune exactly as they wanted in and exported the vocal stems out of logic as audio files for me to import into Pro Tools. What you're hearing is 100% the artist intended delivery. Sorry it doesn't jive with you!
@@evanmorgan oh I didnt.know they tracked with the effect, that's why its always good to track a clean stem simultaneously , BTW , Gang Gang master is unbelievable, love the way you eq'd & panned the guitar. Nothing is getting lost, I hear it all.. You are amazing ..
@@stevemiller1047 I actually didn't have a hand in that one. Nova got her brother Terry Paholek to mix and master her new record for her. I think he did a awesome job too!

So found you through Tom, but this is cool. I have a daughter at Full Sail with friends in audio engineering. I will send them your way.

Would you ever consider selling a template?

Are you analog summing on these tracks?
Nope! I'm 100% in the box for most mixing and mastering
@@evanmorgan then can you take that detune off Novas voice in 'Bad News' .. replace the audio real quick :)
