Oh my god, Michael Kiske with hair. This time is so far in my youth that I no longer believed it to be true. Helloween from Hamburg are considered to be the founders of power metal. I grew up in East Germany, where this kind of music was not available and there is a rumor that the band members used balloons to send cassettes of these albums from West Berlin to East Germany. The two Keeper albums are legendary!
I've been listening to Helloween for a long time now (right around 30 years), but this was the version of Kiske I was familiar with. When I first saw him on the more recent live shows (and without hair), it was really surprising! What's really neat is that 30+ years haven't really aged him all that much. I can look at young Kiske here and easily see the older Kiske and vice versa.
Thanks for reacting to this Randi, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Michael Kiske kills it with the high notes! Its hard to believe he's only 19 years old here! The song kind of runs the entire range of Halloween starting off with talking about kids dressing up like ghosts and mentioning Charlie Brown, Linus and the Great Pumpkin. By the end (the part where the other band members are screaming lyrics with the lead singer), its Satan trying to tempt him into giving into evil. So, it runs the full range of the childhood joy of Halloween to the darker elements. The video is a bit cheesy by today's standards, lol. Still, I enjoy it especially at the end of the song when all the people dancing have suddenly vanished, and the band members are looking around wondering where they went! Thanks Randi for the amazing reaction and your volume level was great!!
Kai Hansen, one of the founders of Helloween, left the band in the late 80's, and started the band Gamma Ray. Might be worth listening to the song "Heading for Tomorrow", as it is in the same gate as Helloween's 15 minutes songs. And if you do, listen to the studio version, not the live one.
Greetings from Germany. One of our german Metal exports. Great you did the full Version. They are still playing. Not that 'hair metal', but still amazing....stay Safe, my Lovelylady
Wow. So early Iron maiden, (1st album I think). I think that's why it resonated so well with me. With that ominous and foreboding start, I wondered where this was going. This, I think is your 2nd reaction to Helloween, and if there's more to come, you've really got my attention. Full to the brim with 80's stereo types, the hair, singing style, guitaring style, foggy videos, the baggy leather jackets, all of it. Takes me back to a very bad old me that had too much fun. The extra instrumentals were a big bonus from not only a listening point of view, but also the singer, time to take a breath between those long screams.
Great reaction to this wonderful song. Their songs are fast and melodic with great vocals and guitar play, i love it. Kai and Weiki was the best guitar duo i have heard at this time and they are great today. How many tears live at wacken could be the next.

Thanks for reacting to this Randi, and glad you did the full version. Even for a 13 minute plus song it did have quite a few guitar instrumentals. Michael Kiske is a great singer and he can really hit the high notes. If you like that I'm sure you would like Helstar. Check out Helstar - Toward the Unknown, not as a reaction but just to give you a song I think you would enjoy, one 80's metal fan to another. ruclips.net/video/dKmV5GBrJQE/видео.html

Masquerade, masquerade,
Grab your mask and don't be late
(Get out get out)
Well disguised heat and fever in the air tonight
Meet the others at the store,
Knock on other people's door
Trick or treat they have the choice
Little ghost's are makin' lotsa noise
But watch, out beware
Listen, take care
In the streets on Halloween
There's something going on
No way to escape the power unknown
In the streets on Halloween
The spirits will arise
Make your choice, it's hell or paradise
Ah it's Halloween
Ah it's tonight
Someone's sitting in a field,
Never giving yield
Sitting there with gleaming eyes
Waiting for big pumpkin to arise
Bad luck if you get a stone
Like the good old Charlie Brown
You think Linus could be right
The kids will say it's just a stupid lie
But watch out, beware
Listen, take care
In the streets on Halloween
There's something going on
No way to escape the power unknown
In the streets on Halloween
The spirits will arise
Make your choice, it's hell or paradise
Ah it's Halloween
Ah it's Halloween tonight
Listen now we are calling you
Listen now we are calling you
Listen now we are calling you
Listen (tonight) we are calling you
And there's magic in the air
Magic in the air
Magic in the air
Magic in the air on Halloween
Black is the night full of fright
You'll be missing the day
Watch will be here very soon changing your way
A knock at your door
Is it real or is it a dream
On trembling legs you open the door
And you scream on Halloween
On Halloween
Darkness
Where am I now
Is there anybody out there
What has happened
Am I in heaven
Or is it hell
I can see a light comin'
It's comin' nearer
It's shining
It's shining so bright
It's shining on me, yeah
I am the one, doom 's in my hands
Now make your choice,
Redeemed or enslaved
I'll show you passion and glory?
He is the snake
I'll give you power and abundance
He's the corrupter of man
Save me from the evil one
Give me strength to carry on
I will fight for all mankind's
Deliverance and peace of mind
But watch out, beware
Listen, take care
In the streets on Halloween
There's something going on
No way to escape the power unknown
In the streets on Halloween
The spirits will arise
Make your choice, it's hell or paradise
Ah it's Halloween
Ah it's Halloween
Ah it's Halloween
Ah it's Halloween
Oh yeah, it's Halloween
Yeah it's Halloween
Yeah it's Halloween
Yeah it's Halloween tonight
