- Duke infiltrates M.A.R.S. Industries base in the Colorado Mountains, meeting Destro for the very first time. Will he finally find the answers he's looking for about the Transformers? And will he survive his encounter with Destro's B.A.T.? The first of Skybound's G.I. Joe mini-series comes to a close, and this video explores what it accomplished and what we might have to look forward to in the future.

What the duke mini series did for me was showing me that GI Joe isn't just a cool black ninja and goofy american soldier characters figthing something snake related or that it wasn't just some random films. Nor it was a weird dlc pack to the transformers that only show up in comics, it showed me it is its own thing, and yet transformers is really a conduit to draw more eyes to GIJoe
It showed me amazing characters in an amazing universe within a more amazing universe, with many ideas and concepts foreign to me, and yet makes me hype to see them in action as if I was waiting it for years, if this is the standard quality for the energon universe I bet it will inspire more people to read comics and value them more than some do now.
And thank you for constantly reviewing these comics and working as a "remember this comic? New issue came out" notification and expanding on things I wouldn't even think twice, really, thank you Moonbase3 for showing this to a more accessible audience and hope to see more of your content

I think it's great to hear how these series are bringing new fans onboard or prompting Transformers fans to give this franchise another look, because - as you detailed so well - it has a lot to offer! And the execution in the Energon Universe has been great so far, can't wait to see what the future holds!
Uh oh. With Duke accusing Destro of the giant robot, he just gave him an idea.
I think Duke headbutting M.A.R.S. henchmen, is a shout-out to the scene from G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra, where he does the same thing to Destro ( without his helmet ).

I've seen bits and pieces of it, it is a little goofy at times but it is okay. The sequel I heard was really good.

Best parts of the GI Joe videos is getting filled in on the references that I missed out on. Definitely among the camp of folks that doesn’t want to see Joes vs Autobots dragged out for too long but I think they can have it play out in a really neat way so I’m game to see what they’ve got cooking.
Right now, I trust Skybound to handle it well...but we'll see how things shake out!
Skybound loves using robots body parts as mace-like weapons. And the leading characters no less, Duke and Optimus Prime

G.I. Joe coming together now...
I've seen a lot of people moaning about how they're going the "Autobots vs G.I. Joe" route but honestly as long as they don't stretch it out too long I think we're good.
Now that we have a solid idea of what G.I. Joe is going to be like in this continuity, I'm curious how the Scarlett mini-series ties into all this. I mean with Destro it's obviously building off of what we've seen in both Duke and Cobra Commander but Scarlett based on the description doesn't seem tied to this stuff directly.
Good question! It could just be fleshing out another corner of the Joe universe, or maybe it'll connect in a surprising way...we still don't know what Zartan's mission is or where he's gone undercover...but he had some history with the Arashikage clan in the Marvel comics, so I wonder if he might show up in Scarlett.
I wonder if in future issues with the Joes we'll be introduced to old Transformers villains like TFP's MECH, or G1's Doctor Archevile and the company that made Nightbird.
Would be neat for the Joes to encounter and have a rough introduction to the Oktober Guard who is also investigating the same thing.
Cool ideas here! I would really dig the Oktober Guard being introduced as investigating the Transformers on their own.
Shame Williamson last book for the Energon Universe will be coming near the end of May with Cobra Commander #5 but hay he will have a part in the Energon Special coming up for Free Comic Book Day. Here to hope that Kirkman rehires Williamson. Being a bigger transformers fan I get Hook vibes from Scrap-Iron but that might be intentional considering that they come from the same company. Classic set for G.I.Joe not knowing that their different factions of Cybertions and thinking that they are controlled by some organization bring further homage to the Marvel run. I think it safe to say that Cobra commander happens somewhat concurrently to Duke, with each issue of Duke happening before each Cobra Commander issue. I wonder if something like that will happen for Destro and Scarlet's mini series. Seeing the B.A.T. keep on fight without its head reminded me of the Magnaguards from Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan lops off one of their head and the Magnaguard keeps on fighting.
If I'm remembering right, Williamson suggested he might continue to have a role working on G.I. Joe in the Energon Universe again in the future, but maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part. :)
Overall I enjoyed this series. Good action, great art, and an interesting start for the Joe side of the new universe. Loved that the Profit Director kept the sick 70s suit. What a guy.
I hope that we don’t spend too much time on GI Joe vs Autobots, for one it’s old hat at this point for another I hate Joes slaughtering named Autobots en masse as usually happens in such crossovers. You’re trying to win over new fans, Skybound, keep that in mind.
Anyhow, fantastic video and excellent work overall on this mini! Looking forward to the end of CC, and then Scarlett & Destro!
I concur on that, Devil's Due did that a lot in their series, I feel like Spike and all the hospital patients Optimus saved in issue 4 will play a role but you can never tell for certain.
Yep, I'm with you guys and am hoping that it's not an overly drawn out process for G.I. Joe to figure out the differences between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Though to get there, first they have to figure out that the Transformers are sentient aliens - and that's the part of the journey I'm most interested in!
You don't have to worry too much. DWJ is already killing a LOT of Transformers in the main Transformers book, recently Huffer, Warpath, and Kup, possibly Ultra magnus as well

Hey man, I haven't watched any of your EU videos lately because I was avoiding spoilers, and you always explain things so well that I feel like I have read the book myself (In fact I just realized I never did purchase certain issues because I could have sworn I'd read them), so forgive me if you've already thoroughly discussed this. But I just this minute finished reading Transformers number 7, and MAN, am I the only one who is REAL disappointed DWJ isn't doing the interior artwork? Nothing against this Jorge guy, i mean there's nothing WRONG with his art but DWJ had something really special and unique going on the way he was drawing Transformers. I mean he REALLY breathed emotion into every panel, even the humans, but especially the bots, in a way we've never really seen before. I'm an 80's kid, been obsessed with G1 almost 40 years now, seen every twist on these guys, so for someone to find a way to do something completely new with them was a hell of an accomplishment. Or am I just being an a-hole? Idk but I'm gonna go watch your last 3 EU discussions now. Hey, while I'm at it, your IDW vids kick ass too man. I probably said this before; if so I apologize for repeating myself, but if my buddy Greg was still around, he would have really appreciated your channel. So maybe I sound stupid, but your content helps me smile and remember the good times with my buddy, and is appreciated on a whole nother level than just comics.

And I hear what you're saying about DWJ. I don't think you're being an a-hole at all, and I suspect there are quite a few people who feel the same way. I really like Corona's art so far, but I won't deny that DWJ brought something to the table that we hadn't seen before in Transformers comics (and probably won't see again). I'm hopeful that we'll get some more issues/arcs illustrated by DWJ, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens...
Another great issue, but I think I concur with the favorites. I think the pace is just different than Cobra Commander - this title seems to rush to the conclusion, if that makes sense. Cobra Commander doesn't seem like it can even BE resolved with one issue left.
Either way, we can see the building blocks of Cobra and their connection to Cybertronian tech, which just makes sense. I would say it should have always been like that.
I really like the connection they're building there - that a lot of this classic Cobra tech isn't viable without Energon. The benefit of building a shared universe from the start!
I know this is a comicbook channel, but are you gonna make a videoreview about the GI Joe animated movie in the future?
Someday I'd like to do something with the animated continuities for Transformers and G.I. Joe, but haven't really decided on anything yet. No plans at the moment, but I'm still considering it for the future!

This one was a let down for me, the first on the GIJoe side of the Energon universe. Not a bad issue, it was still action packed. Hawk just fessing up, it felt like the whole thing was a waste. The series really isn't much different then it would have been had Hawk told Duke about the Transformers back in the first issue.
I see what you mean. It didn't bother me very much, but I do wish there was a little bit more behind Hawk's reasoning. Or some kind of surprising twist or something. But maybe the creative teams will expand on it somehow in future issues? Here's hoping.
