You know what's so interesting? Everybody has a different character they connect with emotionally. Dark is so strong, because it's about people. The cliffhangers are so good because the show runners really got a story to tell. And what a story! Glad you like my favorite show!
You're blowing me away on picking up the tiniest details, like Noah's notebook is similar or the same one that Tronte had in his pocket and that it must have some significance. You won't be disappointed, even the tiniest details play out and very little is left on the table which makes this show practically airtight. Glad you are up to the challenge with an eye on the details and production.
It's funny you mention that the Mikkel/Michael reveal feels like "finale stuff" because I think in a lesser show it would be. But Dark has enough great ideas that it can drop that major revelation in episode 5. And it's not even so much a revelation but just a confirmation. At this point in the series, if you were paying attention, you should already know it, and it's no skin off of the writers' back to reward you for your attention and observation by simply confirming it in a satisfying way. (Reminds me of SnK S2E6- if you were paying attention, you should already know, and the story confirms it nonchalantly) As always, the discussion portion is rich with observations that you will reap the rewards of in the coming episodes. Keep them coming!
@@AllTheArtsy What? Yes of course, what we see is not written to be a finale. Obviously they would have altered things about it all. The writers said exactly what I explained, this twist was initially going to be part of the season 1 finale. at 17:43 here they say it. ruclips.net/video/ZXdrrGTmvuc/видео.html
Your reaction to the Mikkel/Michael reveal was exactly how I felt when I first saw that scene and this is just one of the tamest revelations in this series, I can't wait for you to react to the rest
I had tears in my eyes during the Mikkel and Michael reveal. I'm sad because of what happened to him, I'm happy because I was correct. I am excited because I can't wait for the future eps
Same. When they do the side by side pictures the young Mikkel is smiling and happy. But once he went back to 1986 and became a man he’s had a hard/sad life.
I just love that you understand the genius of this show. I’ve seen it at least ten times and I STILL tear up and get chills every time Jonas reads that letter from his dad. They set up emotional moments so subtly that you don’t realize how invested you are until moments like this. This is my favorite show of all time and I’m glad you can see why.
Whenever I suggest Dark to people, I tell them to always watch until the end of Episode 5. It is the first episode where you get the "mind f***" feeling that Dark fans love, and you are revealed something that shows just how deep and emotional this story might be. The best explanation I've heard about this show, is "the ending has to be earned." It's a complex, winding, and will crush you emotionally, but you get rewarded with moments like Jonas reading his father's letter. Your reaction to Mikkel's letter was just 'chefs kiss.' I clutched my heart.
Incredibly observant guy. I have watched this show three times and I never noticed the wrong date on Michael’s tombstone. He’s also the only reactor that realises the importance of Tannhaus from the start.
Was waiting for this reaction to drop, and it didn't disappoint. Michael/Mikkel might possibly be my favourite character. There are so many great characters, it's hard to pick just one. But the fact that there hasn't been a single instance throughout the show where he's featured in some way where I don't get emotional (esp after finishing the entire series) probably says something 😅 It's nice to see you being so invested in him as well. No shame in getting teary eyed my friend! Since you noticed the headstone, I'd also like to mention I find it very sweet that Ines (perhaps with a yes from Michael as well?) changed his birth date to November 5th, the day he came into her life. I don't think it was Mikkel's original birthday, but it certainly was Michael's, and continued being so for the next 33 years. In retrospect it's also really tragic, because earlier in 2019 Michael hung himself, and Jonas is barely coping with this trauma when five months later, he has a second traumatic experience losing Mikkel, hours before he has to experience his dad's birthday for the first time when Michael isn't around. Which hit me really hard upon rewatches, because in ep.2 (which was on November 5th), we're busy basking in the Nielsen family's agitation, but if you look back, Jonas wakes up from a nightmare where he sees Michael, right on the morning of his birthday, and spends most of the rest of the day lying on the floor of Michael's studio (partially why Jonas is able to notice the loose board in the ceiling and ends up finding the map). I'm pretty sure Hannah remembers what date it is as well, but she's practically running away from it. Probably why she was extra desperate to be with Ulrich on that day, calls him repeatedly and practically ends up cornering him at the police station. I don't want to comment on Hannah's relationship with Michael, but it still made me a lot sadder because there certainly had been a little spark there (as you can see from their interaction as kids), and it's disappointing that Hannah's obsession with Ulrich ultimately overpowered everything else, as always, and possibly did not allow what could've been a healthier relationship and a happier life for her. The only person who probably visited the grave that day was Ines. I would like to think she did, as she does in this episode. Though idk what kind of emotional turmoil she was going through after reading the letter. That ended up being longer than I'd intended LOL. Anyway, I'm really enjoying your reactions, and great job on those afterthoughts. We'll see how many of those theories you've guessed correctly 👀
Wow. I'm almost ashamed I didn't notice that. These small unmentioned things give so many scenes even greater emotional depth. Very frequently these layers of emotion can only be perceived with information from later parts of the show. This sort of narrative structure elevates those scenes and provides much of the substantial value of rewatches. There is plenty of media that uses a similar technique, but Dark uses it more consistently and more consistently powerfully than anything I've seen.
Those music scene + cliffhanger moments are always amazing. But here? It was here that I knew I was on an extraordinary journey. Episode 3 showed that Dark was something more. But here we had a big mystery revealed halfway through the season? What do they still plan for us? So exciting.
I didn't even realize that the point of the round white flashlight was to have a light source that wouldn't flicker like the normal flashlights! Wow, seriously, you are picking up on so many details, it's incredible. Great reaction!
It is a theory that I heard before that actually seems illogical from a scientific standpoint. But I need to use evidence of later episodes to make my point so here be SPOILERS (a tad for season 1 and really mild ones for the rest): So the only time the lights flicker is when the door to the passage is opened and somebody is inside of it. This is assumed to be due to the electromagnetic field around the passage being altered due to mass moving through the passage. The thing is that the field would be equal to one around an electric conductor (that is not properly shielded). But inside the conductor and therefore inside the passage there is no electro magnetic field and the flashlights would never be affected while inside the passage itself in the first place. But since Jonas is never using the futuristic light while someone else is inside the passage - and the lights flicker but his light does not - we actually never get any evidence that the theory is true.
I never liked Sundays, and now it's the day I'm looking forward to the most :D (yes, the reactions drop on Sunday here in Germany) I also got emotional seeing Mikkel in the past. I just felt so bad for him. Especially when you know how he ends up (in the very first scene of the show).
Lying sick in my bed with a 103 degrees fever. Not covid, but the good old flu for a change. This really makes my day a bit better. A good Dark reaction, one of my favourite episodes even! Thanks
Enjoying your journey with DARK. I've probably watched and rewatched every single DARK reaction video including those in languages I dont understand just to relive that WFT moment and your reactions are right up there. I felt the same about the letter scene as well. Scenes like this would normally be used as end of season cliffhangers and DARK just throws such scenes at you like grenades throughout this season and seasons to come. Once you've finished the show you have to go through the official DARK explanation video which has some pretty dark humour as well. I've yet to see a reaction to the explanation video.
Loving your analysis and discussion. This episode and the last I am frankly dumbfounded by how much detail you picked up. But most of all I really enjoy seeing how much you appreciate it. And there's so much more to come!
Im, I'm so glad you started Dark. Because thats what caused me to start it. Insane show, eager for the future of these reactions. And naturally, you're killing it with these theories and observations. I was clueless while watching, in comparison.
The Tannhaüser gate is definitely one of the references here. Yes! Good catch, gotta adore blade runner. Another is the German myth of Tannhaüser. It was incomprehensible how that folklore mapped onto this show before I rewatched it, but it was great fun to research contemplate. The third reference is H.G. Wells, the author of the book "The Time Machine". Also, since you've already seen the rest of season 1 I'll mention a mild spoiler. I always thought middle aged Tannhaus resembled Erwin Schrödinger with his glasses and bow tie style, and Albert Einstein on the other hand with his white hair as his older self. There's one more thing I want to say about Tannhaus, but I also don't want to. So I'll leave it till later.
Great reaction! I was a bit afraid that it was on some level spoiled for you as you had so firmly, quickly and easily established the Mikkel-connection. Many have of course done it, but it came so easily to you that I thought you wouldn't appreciate it, but the true emotions were great.
Yet again i have no words for your perception and intellect, how do you keep doing it man?! XD Thanks to you i were able to see and learn quite a few things that i missed on my watch. Mikkel conformation scene is absolutely heartbreaking, i still tear up very much. Thank you again for your content.
Awesome reaction. The letter scene hits me hard every time too. I cried right away too. The first episode is more or less a big intro to get to know the characters and their circumstances and connections. Your mind will be turned upside down countless times from now on. In my opinion DARK is one of the best series ever. Nice to see how you got into the show! Unfortunately, I can't look at your thoughts at the end because I've had internet problems for three weeks and can only access the internet via hotspot. I need to save gigabytes. But I will definitely make up for it.
Did you have the urge to binge watch this series? I felt like I forgot some details after waiting too long between episodes. I remember waiting for the next season and having to rewatch the previous season to make sure I was up to speed. Still love your enthusiasm! Dark really does seem to be right up your alley! It's great seeing you get so emotionally invested as well.
If you go back and look at the family photos of Jonas with his family I think in one photo they are smiling in the other they aren't. I'm still to this day not sure if they are the same photo. I'm not spoiling anything it never gets mentioned in any episode but something that gets noticed when you watch the series 2-3 times.
Ohh yay been waiting this, definitely one of my fav episodes!! Mikkel/Michael AHHH I had kinda figured it out just like you, but that did not take away from the reveal AT ALL!! This show is such a ride and its only just begun :) I was wondering how far you are on the show real time, ik you've watched up to ep 6 at least cuz patreon, but how much further have u gotten? Regardless, I love ur reactions and i cant wait for the next one!!
I can't remember you mentioning if you've seen it or not, and you've almost certainly been recommended it but you would adore Steins;Gate. It's a time travel anime, and is very very highly regarded not just as a great anime but as a great time travel show in general.
2:40 It is really interesting that you almost immediately drew the connection between the "new priest" and Noah as them being possibly the same person. I also noticed the possible religious meaning of Noah BUT I assumed that the kidnappers were trying to invent time travel and therefore could not be time travelers. So the 2019 Noah had to be somebody different than the 1986 Noah, right? Maybe it would be more of a title than an actual name...?
4:24 Interestingly some reactionists believe here that Katharina must have been forced to have kids instead of simply changing her mind in the next ten years. It's not like Magnus was 33 years old.
4:56 So this is something that I found almost odd about your reaction. You perfectly predicted this after 1x03. Then again I nkeep saying that everything is perfectly laid out in the show if only people would take in all methods in which information is conveyed.
9:03 It is not even an alley. It is the brigde in the woods where Jonas had left his bike in Geheimnisse/Secrets when the teens went to the caves. You can get some good views later when the teens reuinte her after Mikkel vanished and when the police and the parents arrive. The Claudia scene is a different location with a) an asphalt road instead of cobblestone and b) half-round lamps on the street lights where these are really flat. Also the lamp posts in the Claudia scene are directly opposing each other on both sides of the road where the ones here are rather placed alternatively on each side.
9:56 Here we can see one of the shows production errors. The date on the print here reads 4.11.2019 (November 4th 2019) but Elisabeth only gave them the description of Noah today which is 7.11.2019.
10:49 I actually remembered righ now that there were two versions of this filmed. In the scene while Egon "drags" Ulrich out the door Jana cries out desperately and Tronte tries to hold her. But there are also images of the same incident without Jana and Tronte just standing in the door looking disappointed after his son.
What I don't like is when shows stretch out things/storylines too much during a series. Dark is able to set up so much great stuff and also gives you enough answers - in almost every episode. And this one is truly full of great moments, reveals and new mysteries. Oh boy, I love Dark. Can anyone please tell Netflix that this show MUST be released on Blu-ray!? I mean, I'd pay any price. 😁😁
Even after watching this series twice, I still don't understand why Noah was kidnapping the kids for experiments with that chair that kept killing the kids. I mean, i get they were trying to make a time machine, but...why again? Its clear that they can already travel through time without it, since they are kidnapping kids from different times to test it on.. so, the fuck? It seems completely pointless.
dark is also my second favourite story of all time...still a good distance away from nr. 1 but a clear nr. 2 i just love shows where everything is connected and it does not feel like the author/s are just inventing stuff on the go to lengthen it but everything is planned out from day 1. This is why id recommend One Piece to everyone. completely different genre, but the author plants seeds years ahead, laying out story strings that might seem unimportant only to attach them later on giving a huge payoff sometimes many years later. Its probably not something you would react to given your weekly schedule but a lot of reactors watched it and most declared it to be one of their favourite shows, a lot of them also cried at least once. Its the second biggest comic book in existence after superman and still is as good if not better than it was years ago, since there are now many story and character connections the author can harvest on. The Theory game is also strong with many channels completely dedicated to this. a few predicted a lot about an important characters past just because of some minor details that were planted in many episodes over the years, but combined these details made a great theory that came true. If you have interest i recommend the popular videos "The Appeal of One Piece" and the follow up video "Why you should read/watch One Piece" by the RUclipsr Supereyepatchwolf as well as "Why One Piece is the King of World Building" by "Mr Morj (the most detailed one)". Id does explain what the title says and you can have an idea if this is something for you
Im has been following One Piece for years and he said it’s a big part of his life. I don’t think he wants to cover it on the channel. He recently mentioned it in one of his Vinland Saga discussions for example.
Dude..I tried reading the OP manga..and it's soo frickin' boring..can u tell me when it gets good? So far the only reason I'm reading it is because of the characters..the first few arcs were really good but now it's getting kind of repititive..
You are going to have a dark emptiness inside you after this show. You will keep searching for content that's like Dark to fill it's void. I am still searching and Dark has effectively ruined everything else for me. No other series interests me anymore.

From here the whole show becomes much more interesting, this episode is amazing, but in my opinion it is not in the top 5 episodes of the show
What I don't like is when shows stretch out things/storylines too much during a series. 😁😁
Can you believe older Jonas' actor is 55 😮
Commenting for algorithm
I had no word
He's actually a long time fan of One Piece. He talked a little bit about it in his Vinland Saga episode 1x8 reaction video (starts at 13:22).
@@leviackerman1799 where are you in the story?
Did you read recent one piece chapter ?
I am just speechless
I wanna know your schedule posting dark reaction,is it once a week?
Indeed, it will be going up in a couple of hours 👌🏼
Geiger Meter.
You are going to have a dark emptiness inside you after this show. You will keep searching for content that's like Dark to fill it's void. I am still searching and Dark has effectively ruined everything else for me. No other series interests me anymore.
The only two shows I'd put along with Dark are Mr Robot and Attack On Titan..really recommend u to watch them.
@@leviackerman1799 You are right, the last 2 seasons of Mr Robot are crazy, it is the only show that has caught me after Dark
That's so true.
@@leviackerman1799 Thanks will check it out!
thanks to AOT, it kinda filled up that emptiness
