The fact the developers themselves stated they didn’t think they could top Wii Sports Resort, makes me wish they just remastered/remade that game instead.
The problem has become pushing a game out early when it’s unfinished and most people ignoring it, leading to a low amount of users to experience the finished product
You've pretty much outlined perfectly how many of us feel. I do thoroughly enjoy this game and what it offers, I don't regret the purchase at all, but it's a shame how there's so much missed opportunity. I really have grown to irk the model of "release now, finish later" that this game and many others have been following, but I do genuinely believe this game could stand alongside Wii Sports/Resort as one of the greats if the developers are fully committed to it.
Still thinking this game would just have had a lot more popularity if Nintendo just released a version of both wii sports and wii sports resort together for the Nintendo switch, just like they did with super Mario 3d all stars
What would have made it even more popular was if they included a free roaming option and made it possible to buy a house and your own private flying materials (stuff from pilot wings).
Having less sports and not putting golf on launch day is iffy considering Nintendo considers it as a "sequel” in the series. This game does have potential to be good but we haven't seen any actual new gameplay content aside from just cosmetics (which you can’t even get offline). *If I had to rank the series (at the moment):* 1. Wii Sport Resort 2. Wii Sport 3. Switch Sports 4. Wii Sport Club
Imagine if they made Switch Sports Resort. That would be awesome ngl. I really want to see a modern-day version of Wuhu Island with a improved island flyover and such.
Excellent video. Also glad you talked about the 'free update model' that Nintendo has been utilizing lately. I was JUST talking to my friend last night about our frustrations with ACNH. +glad you mentioned about the world being so thought out and detailed yet not being able to explore it freely. I don't have this game, but if they included an update where you can just walk around, day or night, and explore each facility, chill, listen to some nice music, etc I would buy it immediately. I don't know why but that just sounds so nice.
I love this game, but your right about not having online services, the “Miis” look terrible although I like that you can put your actual Mii as the body. Nintendo needs to add table tennis, wake boarding ect, to actually make the game more interesting.
Honestly, i dont think they gonna add any more sports other than golf. People said that in wii sports club they were gonna add new sports but they never did.
I hope they add more sports golf just isn't enough. Also these new "Miis" are actually called Sportsmates and I hate those guys. I think Nintendo named those avatars because they probably don't want nostalgic fans to get the wrong idea.
It's important to point out the faults of something you still enjoy. Otherwise it will never improve. I really admire your passion for this series. Watching your other Sports videos helps me truly understand where your points in this review are coming from. And although I haven't played the game myself, I agree with evrrything you said if that makes any sense haha.
Definitely a great sum of the game. I could list to that main menu music all day lol. I personally have somehow figured out how to still have some replayability out of this game without Switch Online, but it really takes away from the game a lot. I really hope they come out with 1) an update with being able to explore the world, and 2) more content offline. Imagine if the boat next to Bowling takes you out (when in a exploration mode) to Wuhu Island, where you can: - Explore, of course :P - Play Chambara in the classic swordplay arena - Play other sports that didn't make it into the game (maybe a basketball court? o-o) - Play Golf maybe, since the Spocco Square area really isn't suited very well And maybe even more? If that ever happens (which I *highly* doubt it ever will), would make it absolutely my dream successor to Wii Sports. On the free update model, I agree. It should be noted that updates exist everywhere, but having to wait like 6 months is absurd. Maybe we could still get Switch Sports Resort from that video...
it would be sick if you could walk around the spocco square and join games while walking up to it. Even online it would be great seeing other players walk around and interacting with each other.
Even if this game had 12 sports it wouldn't be all that good because of how they treated the single player offerings. Gone is the experience system and fighting stronger miis as you gain more experience. Now you just select a difficulty, once you play that difficulty once you have no reason to play it ever again.
12:12 that's how I feel. I wanted to try new customization but I'm forced to use a sportsmate to even enjoy the custom headgears. Still it would've been better if those sportsmates were to get their own series instead of being in the wii sports series and replace the miis as the main characters.
I fully agree! How cool would it have been to have a mode where you can go about your day on foot and explore the entire place, go to shops to spend your points & earn your unlockables that way, from both shops, restaraunts, etc. That would have been cool as hell! Definitely a missed opportunity there. I feel Japanese developers in general have lacked imagination for a while now & it's a shame.
Get rid of the new models for the characters, default on the Miis, remove the limited edition clothing and gear, keep it to level unlocks, add the older sports, and you got yourself a game, not a great game but… a game
The Miis were better! Those customisations could have easily been added to the Miis instead. If you are a physical collector of games then the free update model has further ramifications because the full game is not released on the original card and as we all know the servers for the Switch won't be around forever
I want to buy this game and have fun I really do, but I can stop thinking of what could’ve been, you said it so well, the have an entire movement system for the sports mates, let us walk around the areas, I can’t stop thinking about a true HD Wuhu Island and walking up to the bowling alley and start a game with friends
I really appreciate the care you put into your content, it makes it really enjoyable to watch because I can tell how much the subject means to you. Thank you for sharing! It’s really enjoyable to watch ❤
amazing review. Couldn't have worded it better myself. Gameplay is great, the new avatars and locals are actually really cool too -just underutilized, music is banger, etc. But the lack of content and mode variations really hurt it from becoming the true Resort sequel. Feels like an in-between of OG Wii Sports and Resort.
If your main concern is playing as your Mii, you can also ditch all of these customisation options. I don't see a reason to get these (probably because I don't have a Switch).
I was so stoked, but where the hell are all the funny idiosyncrasies? Where’s the “fuck” in tennis, or “nice cock?” And various other things? It’s what made it funny and not just a sport sim.
Nintendo has to be more creative with Switch Sports. For example, they should add 100 pin bowling or even 100 pin bowling special lanes. They could also add practice modes and medals like wii sports had. This game is unfinished but we still hope that Nintendo will add many sports soon. Finally Nintendo shouldn't make Switch's users pay for playing online. Overtime, there won't he any purpose to pay for playing online.
the Mii's from the Wii and Wii U were perfect The Switch characters look like everyday characters from mobile games (they also look like mobile game characters from annoying advertisements)
Games like Smash and Mario Kart have beefy single player content. There’s no excuse for Nintendo Switch Sports. Despite the massive sales in the past its such a shame that it feels like this game was thrown out to the wolves. Like they treat it as a lesser game.
I don't think I would still be playing this game if I weren't trying to unlock all of the stuff you get for playing online. What's there already is great and very fun, but it's not enough, especially compared to Wii Sports Resort which I still come back to today.
I completely agree with your thing about Miis- It feels so limited using them. I would switch to a Sportsmate, but honestly none of the hairstyles are any that I like. Personally, if Miis could wear hats at least, I think it would be fine.
@@Timidile especially tomodachi life I really hope we get a sequel or a port. I know the tomodachi life that everyone played was actually the sequel to the Japanese exclusive game Tomodachi Collection on the DS.
My problem against Switch Sports isn't really the lack of contents comparing to Wii Sports Resort, is that fundamentally it's not the simple, casual fun like Wii Sports series once were. It's not limited to Switch Sports, it just seems that as every video game nowadays are going down the competitive route, which is fine I guess, but I really hope to have the option to a casual fun experience like Wii Sports / Wii Fit series once provided, sadly Switch Sports doesn't have that option.
I didn’t get the game because I knew that being a new Nintendo game means forced Nintendo Switch Online, and it looks like the sports are not that great. Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara are just returning sports, Badminton and Volleyball look similar to each other as well as looking similar to Tennis, and Soccer just looks like Rocket League if there wasn’t any cars. Also, Golf (and any other sport that comes later) is in a “free content update”, basically, in this case, finishing the game so late that by the time you finish the game, it’s already been out for a couple of years and nobody is interested anymore. The Sportsmates look like they replace the Miis. The Miis were one of the first things that come to mind when talking about Wii Sports in general (where do you think my profile picture came from?), and seeing Sportsmates as the main characters in Switch Sports is just ridiculous, which might actually be the direct result of the game being considered a sequel to Wii Sports as a series. Nintendo Switch Sports looks more uninteresting than I would’ve hoped from a successor to the Wii Sports series, ESPECIALLY Wii Sports Resort.
This is a huge bummer to hear. Especially with it being one of your favorite series, NH. Great job outlining and giving solid criticism on a tougher review.
I miss the section in Wii sports where it did your age and you really felt like you were bettering yourself through playing games cuz your assessment got better Edit: I also miss the special bowling ball my mom got from being SO GOOD at that game.
I love the potential of the game and the things they did, but I feel like it's not worth buying until the potential is actually reached. I want to buy the game to let them know I see potential in future updates and they shouldn't stop developing, but on the other hand I don't want to make them feel like they can stop developing because I already bought it.
I agree with every single word you say, with how much I appreciate this game I cant think about it without feeling slightly sad because of what it is and the fact that it isn't what it could be, it feels like nintendo didn't even aimed to create a big and full game but rather a small casual family game you open once in a month or something like that, it has such a huge potential to be an amazing and full of content game which you can play for hours but in the end it is just 6 minimal sports and that's it... very disappointing😥
Honestly, I have a huge imagination, so I just imagine walking, sleeping, and eating in this modern vacation thing. I also wish you could get the stuff you want when you get the gifts, and offline play supporting professional ranks, because my parents STILL won’t let me get a Nintendo online subscription, since sometimes social media can be like a hacker’s paradise.
The best thing they could have done would have been a collection. All 12 sports from resort plus the missing baseball boxing and tennis from the original. Maybe training modes as well.
Yeah. I've never been the biggest proponent of Wii Sports, but this game does really rub me the wrong way. Must be a whole other level of melancholy when you're a fan of the past games...
I think some people go for the whole “well it’s okay if the next game has less content because previous games in the series also had that” argument because of the idea of “unsustainable sequel escalation”, where the more you keep adding to each game, the harder it is to upstage the previous game (like, Smash Bros.’s roster has went up and up with every single game release)
Great & honest review! I fully agree, that is a terrible way to develop a game, specially one like this. I always thought Nintendo was the one company who didn't do things like that, but here they are. It's a real shame to see. They of all ppl should know that you don't release a game until it's 100% complete & nearly bug free.
Pros: Sports are great, controls feel good, loads of fun customisation, looks visually great Cons: No offline progression, limited customisation, not enough side modes, needs more exploration Feels like the biggest issue of this game is that it feels disappointing after Resort, as in that game is the giant of the series and it makes the games after feel disappointing, but even that game didn't have Boxing, Baseball and normal Tennis, which it did make up for with so many other sports, so specific complaints like no boxing feel a little strange. There is a genuinely great game and concept here, it just isn't fully realised. As iconic as the Miis and Wuhu Island are, I actually don't mind the sports mates and new location. I even wondered how a "Switch Sports" title would do if it was the first two games remade, upgraded, and sold on the Switch. I also wonder how this game would done if treated as entirely separate from the OG series, even if Nintendo made it less of a sequel and more of a standalone, comparison would've been inevitable because of the Sports title. I have a feeling some people (or at least the ones who'll grow up on it) may look back at it fondly in a few years (like the Wii U, could be completely wrong though), but that also depends on how much they improve the game over time and add even the little details Either way, this is definitely the best and most fair review of the game
The problem with the "less sports than Resort" argument is that I find myself playing every NSS sport equally, while I only play around 4 of the Resort sports.
I just want more sports lmao. I like the aesthetics and gameplay, but I want more. I like tennis, badminton and volleyball, but they feel so similar and it makes me miss all the resort sports and wii sports. Hopefully eventually they'll release more sports which would resolve this issue, but it sucks
All I can say is Golf had better be impressive if they want this game to really be worth the price. They really need to add new play modes to all of the other sports too that way there's some extra staying power, specially in single player mode. The game just needs more content period. Have they added any at all with any of the updates?
I also can't stand the fact that you can't explore Spocco Square, they should add a "free roaming" sport lile the plane one from resort, I think exploring the location while skateboarding would fit this world, it kinda reminds me of go vacation on the wii
The game isn't as fun as I thought it'd be. It's also barely a workout, all you do is swing your arm. Maybe this game isn't meant to be a workout but still. I feel like you have no control over the ball in tennis or the birdie in badminton. You just swing your arm to hit the ball or birdie and that's it. I probably won't play chambara or soccer since I'm not into those. I've only played bowling, tennis, volleyball and badminton. It's not really that fun... I thought it'd be way more fun. I miss Wii Sports so much, I haven't played it in forever. I thought this game would be similar to that but not really. I actually really like the characters! They look super nice imo. It's a shame not many people are accepting it. I also like the customization, its nice. I just wish the game was more fun
i’m not a big fan of Nintendos new model of “push out the game by this point and just give it free DLC” it gives me way less incentive to buy the game within even the first year.
Great video, I just missed the party play aspect in it. I loved playing Wii sports with my friends on the couch. Is this even possible in switch sports? Furthermore, as an offline player, the lack of a offline progression system is a big deal breaker and probably the reason I'm not gonna buy it.
ironically, i could see the drip release after launch being an attempt to keep the games relevant for longer. like they think every time they drop a big new update itll reinvigorate the conversation around the game. i can see the logic, but in practice its just shooting themselves in the foot
Ik everyone loves resort, but the OG Wii sports will always be the classic and the one I remember as iconic. I was born in 04 and I got my Wii in 09 and it blew my fucking mind! Up to that point I only played gamecube and the Wii shook the gaming world! And Wii sports was THE GAME! I played for hours and I’m talking…HOURS!!! I think they should have just remastered the first one or resorts! This new gen of kids wouldn’t and don’t understand the legacy and impact of this game so they should have just gave the teens something they remembered as a kid instead of giving this to the gen. Imagine playing boxing online or OG bowling! PS: I played the beta and this game just doesn’t feel right with joy cons, I need the Wii Remote😂😂
*video not vid. I don't understand the concept of wanting to shorten a word that is already short enough as it is. I find it ridiculous. But I do understand wanting to shorten long words.🤦♂️
Lack of imagination & passion. That's the impression I get from this entry. It's a shame too cus there's a lot of potential here. It's just unrealized due to the lack of content & no brainer omissions.
I could not agree more with your early video assessment. The content is simply too lacking for a near full priced title. It feels like a cash grab. It should be far more feature rich, or the games should have more depth to them at the very least. There's no excuse for such a barebones showing.
tbh i fucking hate this game. when comparing this game to sports resort it has only taken it's first few baby steps. and i don't currently have a switch online subscription so i am stuck with CPU's and sometimes friends. and the CPU's on chambara is SO unbalanced. holding the sword horizontally? nope he/she just attacked vertically in less then 200 milliseconds. in my opinion the game absolutely sucks for the lack of potential. i mean come on! it's been over 13 years and you can't add more then 6 games until fall? i despise nintendo for giving us this piece of absolute crap if you don't have switch online. wuhu island was so iconic and they had such a big shot but no they just had to make it suck ass. 13 years. think about that. 9 years after year 2000 and we got an absolute masterpiece and 13 years later we get what should have been that but better. except it was the exact opposite. i give it a 1/10.
The fact the developers themselves stated they didn’t think they could top Wii Sports Resort, makes me wish they just remastered/remade that game instead.
They could have if they enhanced what made Wii Sports Resort so special
A Wii Sports Resort HD remaster that only added Online Multiplayer would've been better than Switch Sports.
A well made remaster would be more popular beloved and better selling than this waste of effort
I swear, this comment section is like the Lois "9/11 is bad" but with NSS.
True

Can’t still forgive Nintendo for replacing the Mii’s
Same. After last year's Miitopia game for the Switch and this is how Nintendo repays them? This feels like a betrayal.
sportsmates aren't that bad tbh, miis don't look good on this game and they were supposed to be a thing of the wii, not the switch

Great & honest review! I fully agree, that is a terrible way to develop a game, specially one like this. I always thought Nintendo was the one company who didn't do things like that, but here they are. It's a real shame to see. They of all ppl should know that you don't release a game until it's 100% complete & nearly bug free.
Pros: Sports are great, controls feel good, loads of fun customisation, looks visually great
Cons: No offline progression, limited customisation, not enough side modes, needs more exploration
Feels like the biggest issue of this game is that it feels disappointing after Resort, as in that game is the giant of the series and it makes the games after feel disappointing, but even that game didn't have Boxing, Baseball and normal Tennis, which it did make up for with so many other sports, so specific complaints like no boxing feel a little strange. I have a feeling some people (or at least the ones who'll grow up on it) may look back at it fondly in a few years (like the Wii U, could be completely wrong though), but that also depends on how much they improve the game over time and add even the little details
Either way, this is definitely the best and most fair review of the game
Been waiting a long time for this vid
The game has more highs then lows for a matter of fact
I think the theme chosen was perfect and I love it... but I just can't get around liking the sportsmate
atleast its better than wii sports club
Is it really?
Wii sports club isn't a standard
It's kinda a good game if you have the online, but if you haven't is basically a demo, except it costs 40 euros.
Great video, I just missed the party play aspect in it. I loved playing Wii sports with my friends on the couch. Is this even possible in switch sports? Furthermore, as an offline player, the lack of a offline progression system is a big deal breaker and probably the reason I'm not gonna buy it.
"In a couple of years" and we only have two more sports...
Woah, I didn't know that you can only earn 2 items a week if you don't sub. Thats pretty messed up. 8:42
I feel like just a port would look better ngl
I understand the shift away from miis for a more expressive avatar, but some of the styles was lost, and the new people feel so generic.
Nintendo Switch Sports or Wii Sports (Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club)?
ironically, i could see the drip release after launch being an attempt to keep the games relevant for longer. like they think every time they drop a big new update itll reinvigorate the conversation around the game. i can see the logic, but in practice its just shooting themselves in the foot
The only thing I am mad about is that they removed mii,s
I would be happier if they just remake the old version. The plane game and all different mode.
This game is fine but I wish it was delayed so they can put more content and polish.
I just got it and I only play golf and sword play (I still don’t want call it the other name)
This makes sence.
I just saw your vid on Wuhu where you ask for this lol
*video not vid. I don't understand the concept of wanting to shorten a word that is already short enough as it is. I find it ridiculous. But I do understand wanting to shorten long words.🤦♂️

Remaster Wii Sports Resort for the switch!
Alright there it is!
who is here after the basketball announcement?
The fact the Wii sports resort was a pack in for most of its life and this is a paid game is very daming
Yeah I definitely agree with everything here. F
12:20 TRAITOR u let the miis down 😢
I played all the sports once in lees than an hour.
That’s a good thing,
Where the miis 😢
Did the soccer remind you of rocket league?
Lack of imagination & passion. That's the impression I get from this entry. It's a shame too cus there's a lot of potential here. It's just unrealized due to the lack of content & no brainer omissions.
I could not agree more with your early video assessment. The content is simply too lacking for a near full priced title. It feels like a cash grab. It should be far more feature rich, or the games should have more depth to them at the very least. There's no excuse for such a barebones showing.
This is the Teen Titans GO! Of Wii Sports games. But unlike TTG being the superior version, Nintendo Switch Sports is the inferior version in my eyes.
You think TTG is superior to the original? What the heck is up with you?
Sports without Wuhu is no nintendo game...
Maybe we could meet online!
They should remake wii sports instead of this
The expansive customization looks great but we could rly use some more diverse body types
The only reason I clicked on this is the miis
We all know it's very meh
I hate the avatars a lot the miis are what made Wii Sports Wii Sports
tbh i fucking hate this game. when comparing this game to sports resort it has only taken it's first few baby steps. and i don't currently have a switch online subscription so i am stuck with CPU's and sometimes friends. and the CPU's on chambara is SO unbalanced. holding the sword horizontally? nope he/she just attacked vertically in less then 200 milliseconds. in my opinion the game absolutely sucks for the lack of potential. i mean come on! it's been over 13 years and you can't add more then 6 games until fall? i despise nintendo for giving us this piece of absolute crap if you don't have switch online. wuhu island was so iconic and they had such a big shot but no they just had to make it suck ass. 13 years. think about that. 9 years after year 2000 and we got an absolute masterpiece and 13 years later we get what should have been that but better. except it was the exact opposite. i give it a 1/10.
