    I ordered a 2000 Silverado without air.
    Because of your video I tried a stubby screwdriver in the actuator hole instead
    of taking it off.
    It was a hard clockwise turn but I
    got the door to move and get a defrost and floor air blend.
    Putting the
    dial in the right position made it turn easier. That's good enough for me!
    Thank you!!!

    Definitely grateful for this video. The symptoms he described took me directly to the problem which was the blend door actuator. I did get it unbolted and tried to replace the actuator on my 2004 Silverado, but was never able to get the original one removed...not enough clearance with all the other stuff around it. Watched this video several times but there was just no way to angle it to get it out without removing the white toothed plastic gear that you get a glimpse of near the beginning of the video. Gave up on getting it out of the truck and decided to just put the bolts back in after seeing GM Tim38 video on resetting it by pulling fuse. That turned out to be the problem as my battery had recently died and I guess the actuator has to be reset sometimes. Anyway, its a really good, useful video that saved me a lot of money...just not sure why I couldn't get the part out.

      It’s not too bad putting it back in. I literally just did one today on one of these trucks. It was stuck on defrost mode so all I did was plug the plug back in without mounting the actuator back. Compare the old one to the position the new one is at, after that just simply go to the mode that corresponds to the position the old one was in. So basically I pressed the mode back to defrost and it moved the new one to the exact position the old one was at. I just slid it on and mounted it and worked perfectly fine. Hope that helps you some

    Not sure why, but this was one of the most aggravating jobs I've ever worked on. Had a bear getting that flap button to go into the slot. And then it kept popping out before I could get the 2 screws in. I found it best to install the top screw first and had to use a mirror to get the holes lined up. Oh yeah, I had to use tape to keep the screws on the sockets. Anyhow, after about 4hrs, I got it on and it seems to be working OK. Wished I had fixed it along time ago because I think all the heat coming from the defrost was responsible for cracking my windshield.

    I just was working on a friend's pickup that was stuck on defrost so I took off both these controller motors and opened them both up and put 12 volts to them and they both worked! They looked new inside! But that black half circle track with the grooves where those pegs slide seemed gummy so I cleaned it and regreased it and it works fine now! But I do know that where the big shaft goes into these motors it goes in to a white plastic gear and most of the time that gear is split/cracked and can no longer turn the shaft. Theyre very low geared so that little motor can get alot of torque on that final gear if something gets wedged in those flappers that they control and breaks that final gear. So don't let things fall down your defrost because it falls right down on them.

    So I have an 1:47 easier fix if you're broke but determined like me. Pull the vent off like he said wedge your head around the break pedal. If you look above and behind the actuator motor you'll see the white switch that you can turn manually by again wedging your hands back there (I have large hands so most men can do it too)and push it the opposite direction. Heck yeah!!! AC blowin on me again without sticking my head to the windshield. Very needed here in AZ summer scorching heat. Ha ha ha, yes I'm proud of myself. But huge thanks to this video, it made it seem doable and it was.

      Yes, and to tell the truth, I still need to crawl under it and line it up. I’m thinking the easiest way would be to move them until it comes out certain vents, then match it up on the control knob

    PSA: I bought a cheap replacements from Amazon by the brand A-Premium for both the blend door and mode door.
    The blend actuator has worked fine so far. The blend actuator also fits in place of the mode actuator, BUT the programming is different, so they are not interchangeable.
    The mode actuator from A-Premium does not work at all. The shaft on the second spur gear from the worm is too small, allowing it to skip teeth when any pressure is applied.

    Thanks for the video this was excellent! Question for you. There are some gear teeth on my shroud that match up to some white gear teeth on the box but the shroud travel doesnt cover all of the teeth but only like 1/4 of them. Do you know what should be adjusted so the there is complete travel along those teeth? It seems to me if the whole tooth profile is not being used then the damper doors are not opening fully?

    • @ChiDraconis
      @ChiDraconis 3 года назад +2

      There is supposed to be a limit-stop which prevents going off the end of the gear sprockets ~ you set the thing to the middle of travel and do not force it; Seems to be a calibrate but have not found reliable ○ Factory is charging 100-x what it costs them to make it so they are playing us • You do not need complete travel over all available teeth as I am a perfectionist and have had to realize this is not how this works → The servo is supposed to have a "sensor" which does the feedback loop telling it when to stop · The general design is that of a bridge such that neutral "in the middle" is the zero value with ± limit of travel being held for ransom by Control Clowns® ◘ Your best approach is to hire a dirt contractor whom will crush it flat for a fee

      I've given up on installing a new one. I simply can't get it to work. Not sure if the gears aren't aligned properly or what, I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't work. I resorted to leaving the actuator removed entirely a d just adjusting it by hand when I need defrost vs cold air out of front vents. And I never bother with foot vents now. Impossible task

      @@danielitros28 yeah not hard to inst it but whether it works is another story. I saw no other way to position it than how i had it on install yet i still didnt have fully operational. My initial prob was it would only blow thru defrost vents, well i did fix that problem but now i can only blow thru the front vents. Insp everything so i know the issue is with the blend door itself, not something else on the truck.

  • @carsandhealthtoddrosenzwei2661

    I discovered that my white lever, the you show in your video, doesn't "snap" into each of the two positions like yours does. Mine just flops loosely. Thus MUST BE the issue as to why air still blows out the foot and defrost vents while the mode button is set to dash vents only. 😢😢😢
    What do i do now to fix? Do i need a whole new interior ac box assembly?

    _unplugged the actuator for a few minutes and plugged it back up_ in the comments is a micro-thing semi-conductor layer which results from oxidation ◙ These are chrome plate contacts due to economic reasons and you cannot detect the layer watthour science mind like mine → All you need is some antioxidant as proven by my fixing the passenger side hot-cold diverter servo 2 days ago and now you can hear the air-door thump over in time with Thumper-bumper Ka Whammy ! It works

    Excellent video, one question though! I have very hot air coming out of vents no mater if i have the temperature turned to hot or cold. BUT when i switch from vent to defrost, then turn from hot to cold the ac/cold air works great! Weird right? I already pulled off the blender actuator on passenger side & manually turned the knob either way. Still nothing but hot air coming from vents. Working on my ol mans 01 chevy silverado 1500 z71 any feedback is appreciated

    Is there a way to check if it’s bad? If I move the switch and get the cold air to blow through the vents would that confirm that it’s that part? Trying to not buy anything extra.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage 2 года назад

      Yeah, plug the motor in and if you turn the switch and the motor doesn’t move that would also mean it’s not working.

    Been putting this off for a long time, mainly because I wasn't sure the cause. Some sources indicated there were multiple actuators that could cause ac and heat to only come out the defroster. Maybe so, but I'm going to start by replacing this relstively inexpensive one and see what happens.
