@HeraldOfOpera from what I know, the book was written for nobles who legitimately didn't know things like that. He was expecting a will to live, though he was also definitely expecting a lack of competency.
@eyald.8252 But that’s what they’re talking about. Sun Tzu’s book hinges on the fact that the soldiers in question are capable of fighting, while tabs units are not so capable
The fundamental truths of TABS: - You will fail in a perfect mirror match - You will also fail if you have vast numerical superiority - You will also fail if you chose any close-quarters unit to go against any individual ranged unit - You will also fail if you chose any ranged unit to go against any close-quarters unit
Did you know captain sauce was inspired by a true story? In early civilization times, there was a cavemen who wore a red fruit on his head and a cape, he was named kap taén säooce, he was heavily feared because he led mammoths against many armies and caused mass genocide on any community comprised of short people, because a few years back, a group of short people stole his money he gained for his live entertainment performances
6:34 "Do not climb inorder to fight" means do not went uphill to engage your enemies in the original text. It is very advisable to put your army on the high ground, hence "camp in high places."
@yourpalbryan1442 actually fun fact in sword fighting, the high ground(not high enough that you're both out of range) is actually a disadvantage because it's easier to swing up near your head than near your legs and feet.
@robertharris6092 soldiers knew it, but the nobles who commanded them (that were the intended audience for the Art of War in the first place) didn't. It's only common sense because Sun Tzu wrote it down for them
@robertharris6092People don't realise the Art of War is just a entry level textbook. It's full of basic commonsense because that's the point of a textbook.
@OldiesButGoodies9491 Yeah, besides, a lot of actual honour was personal conduct outside of war and/or not committing war crimes. I feel like the modern conception of honour being "never lie or use any trickery or cunning in warfare" is a result of the idea mutating after the concept became somewhat obsolete in a military setting and started become more romanticised. To go on somewhat of a tangent (that will also be very lengthy), it wouldn't be the first time it happened, I mean, did you know that actual, historical chivalry had pretty much *nothing* to do with romance? The idea of chivalry being about loyalty and devotion to your lady took a while to form. Originally it was a code of loyalty, specifically loyalty to God (and therefore your superiors in the feudal system because of the Divine Right of Kings and all that), as well as a code of military honour (don't kill defenceless opponents, capture opposing noblemen for ransom instead of just killing them, etc.). Then, after the increasing adoption and improvements to firearms in European conflict made mounted knights somewhat irrelevant, it became more about presenting yourself as heroic, dignified, honourable, wise, and courteous. In the 19th century, there were attempts to revive chivalry as the idea of "the state of mind which makes men do heroic things and protect all that is sublime in the intellectual and moral world". It hadn't quite reached the modern definition yet, as gallantry was used to refer to the idea during the Early Modern Period. And finally, in the 20th century, it became what it's commonly known as today, with the whole "damsel in distress" idea.

6:24 I think it makes more sense for this to mean to not take uphill battles if you don't have to, and to take the advantage when the opportunity presents itself
@Rotom-of-Rotomsbourg i killed the Spider Mastermind,I killed the Cyberdemon, I killed the Baron of Hell. I am still not done. I will rip and tear until it's done.
Those with your tactical knowledge are who the book was written for, it served it's purpose of letting you lead long enough to learn to do so effectively
8:30 I think by what he meant when he says this is that even an army will grow tired without enough supplies and time to rest after marching, which means you can attack them when they are the most weakest
No. It means that army movements are obvious. They alter the terrain they choose to walk in their path. The landscape changes ones an army comes in contact with it. Stones are moved, trees are cut, animals are slaughtered. Like a torrent, it simply won't care and will only stop once it reaches its destination or if it has no where else to go anymore.

"Observation allow you to have knowledge, Knowledge gives you chance to analyze, and analyzing give you understanding" "Understanding is an extra Advantage, That ensuring Success"
Incorrect. _On War_ was written by Clausewitz for several reasons, none of which were as a "response" to a text that came out over a millennium earlier. The first was to understand and explain the strategy and tactics of the Napoleonic Wars, and how relatively new concepts such as mass conscription and decisive battle had shattered the old held beliefs of limited objectives, slow maneuver warfare, and aristocratic officer culture. The second reason was to explain Prussia's poor performance during the wars, particularly the defeat in 1806 at Jena-Auerstedt. He wanted to help cultivate a new culture of military thinking in Prussia so that such a defeat would never happen again. The third reason was to respond not to Sun Tzu, but Antoine-Henri Jomni, who presented war as a set of prescriptive rules and geometric principles that always existed. Clausewitz rejected this approach as dangerously misleading, believing instead that war was complex and uncertain, as it was influenced by political factors, psychological factors, and human will. To this end, his final motivation was to integrate war and politics into a single framework, hence his quote "war is a continuation of policy by other means". He wanted and needed futured generals and statesmen to understand that war was inseparable from political purpose, and that strategy therefore must be shaped by that purpose.
"If your enemy is secure at all points be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If his forces are united, separate them." You didn't execute it well, your spearmen have advantage with range, so all you need to do is, separate them but not too far, just enough for their range to reach the other side that's still engaged in battle to be able to aid them quickly, Sun Tzu's strategy is good as long as the one who uses it actually knows when to use it and how to translate it to fit the scenario, since in TABS the troops are just mindless bots, then you need to think like them while following Sun Tzu's book
If fighting is to result in victory then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and i think he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do pal cause he invented it! And then he perfected it so that no living man can defeat him in the ring of honor!

He was expecting a will to live, though he was also definitely expecting a lack of competency.
@HeraldOfOperahe expected competence from the soldiers, not from rich people who never saw war (his audience)
