I was a chef in training for 2 years and cross contamination is so so serious Jon is absolutely justified in his seriousness about it. Cross contamination can absolutely kill someone, be it an allergy or salmonella.

Is it really that dangerous? I am not a expert that is why i ask. I eat chicken sometimes at home and i touch raw chicken and wipe my hands in a paper towel. Is that already enouth then?
@Der Echte Cross contamination can be super dangerous as it can carry deadly illness. But, some people's stomachs have acclimated to things like raw meat so it really just depends on the person. Another issue here is allergies, some people will go into severe anaphylaxis over minute amounts of exposure to their allergy. So there's just many dangers at hand.
You were a chef in training but are you a chef now? If so why would you say you were in training? Or did you quit after the 2 years of training?

I don’t know what’s scarier: Jon yelling and throwing things, or him quietly reprimanding you.
My great grandfather could make you feel like shit without saying a word. He could make you feel like the lowest of the low just by looking at you. If he knew you did something wrong, he didn't have to tell you that he knew. All he would have to do is look at you. So I'm pretty sure its plenty more scary to be reprimanded quietly, because then you know the other person is trying their hardest not to scream at you.

My mom works in the food service industry, we watched an episode and I asked her a question about the filth, she said that health inspectors don’t do regular inspections but they do get a heads up when they come (I.E. the inspector could’ve came a month ago and won’t come back till like a month or two later)
I worked in a 1 site "family owned " restaurant. It baffled me how the place passed inspection. With 90+ percent. Omg!

heres what happens, you come into work one day and your manager pulls you asside and tells you to make sure everything is clean because at some point this week theyre gonna come and inspect us. soo you go grab anything that looks too old or doesnt smell right and trash it then take it right out to the dumpster. then you get to cleaning up the company or owners standards then people start slacking off after the inspection happens again. repeat ad infinitum
The disregard for cross contamination is just baffling to me. I was a fry cook at KFC for minimum wage in high school, dealing with raw chicken all shift, and never would my coworkers or I be so negligent.

I worked at McDonald's and a restaurant for a bit and I especially was careful about it because I've had food posing from chicken before and it was awful, unfortunately depending where you are some people don't take it seriously and it's scary

I was in the hospital for 5 DAYS DUE TO FOOD POISONING… my potassium level was 3 from days of continuous vomiting and they had to monitor my heart. I had two IV’s, one in each arm… that’s what happens when you don’t practice good hygiene.
Sorry that happened to you. I remember when I was food poisoned, I couldn't even move out of my bed and couldn't eat much for 3 days straight (nearly died one time). People whose job to cook need to do it properly or else they wind up killing someone.

I was bedridden constantly throwing up for about 2 weeks and when i finally recovered i was severely dehydrated and had to go to the hospital. All because i had bad salad at a fucking wedding. Scariest point in my life and it completely ruined christmas/new years for me 2 years ago

We actually got one a few weeks ago
5th Bar, my friend is allergic to cows, any product of theirs can make her very sick. So when that cook went on to touch beef and made up the plate of lettuce I threw up in my mouth. I know people think Jon gets a bit exaggerated about cross contamination, but getting food poisoning is serious business and not enough people care about it.
I work in kitchens. He does over exaggerate a lot when it comes to this stuff. But you are right, not enough people care about it or realize the dangers of it

I was trained in a kitchen at a retirement home for my first job, and the head chef ran that place like clockwork. Every single one of these employees would have gotten a "dressing down." Shit like this can and WILL send people to the hospital, and especially people who are Assisted Living, are at high risk. This is disgusting!!!

Usually yes but here this is where he’s going in before the food/drinks are served. Like in most other episodes the recon team will try the food and drink and talk about how bad it is before Jon makes an entrance whereas in this case he’s going in before it even reaches them because of how bad everything is

I’m 16 and I’ve been doing culinary school for about 10 months and even I know how serious food safety is! It’s the first thing our teacher taught us and we even had to get our ServSafe certificate to be able to start cooking ! Some people just don’t care 🤦🏾

I've read some of the comments. I agree, Jon is scary. I will tell you what's scarier and WHY I LOVE it when he gets so pissed with kitchens...CHROHN'S DISEASE. I got salmonella poisoning back in the day and spent a week in the hospital. 3 years later I was diagnosed with Chrohn's Disease. While there is a genetic component, there is also an environmental one. This is really no joke and I'm so glad to watch Jon lose his shit over it. Luckily, I only got sick and have a lifelong disease...people DIE from food poisoning.

Man I was an executive chef for years. In San Diego and the Cleveland area and this is just horrifying. The clueless cook contaminating the entire restaurant isn't to blame. He's obviously clueless and shouldn't be handling food. It's all the owners fault. He's had zero training and probably doesn't even know the danger of raw chicken. His daughter is going to inherit a broken father. And it's his own fault.
They must all be immune to salmonella at this point.

Maybe, the local health inspectors don’t come around often or are on the take. They should be closed down immediately. I know that this affects employees, but whose fault would that be?
Health inspection departments are often notoriously understaffed, too. There are documented cases of a single inspector having to cover a few hundred locations, so you can imagine how much real "coverage" that means.

As for Ramsey. Well, on his own show Ramsey is really good at branding, cooking and yelling at people about very obvious fuckups. For market research, renovations and interior design he relies on numerous people from his network of highly skilled professionals.
So there's a bit of overlap in their skill sets. Do they take turns doing the yelling, or do they both yell at the same time? Does Taffer yell at the front of house and bar manager and let Ramsey yell at the back of the house and kitchen manager?
It will never happen Gordon has changed a lot throughout the years and Taffer thinks Ramsay will ruin his reputation and future because of Ramsay's so called "soft attitude".
