@adambuesser6264 from what I've heard, is that the train station is going to have stores and restaurants. I think the auto industry would be afraid of sales dropping off they put a train there. It's unfortunate because a train would be amazing for Detroit.

This mental health concept needs to be told far and wide. The US greatest problems, from crime to homelessness, is contingent on our poor handling of mental health issues.
Being from Michigan originally and living in both Ontario and Michigan I can say Detroit has made one hell of a comeback. We went to the NFL draft and all we heard from out of towners is how clean and safe the city felt. It really was alive compared to 10-20 years ago.

This is a fantastic piece, Thanks! I have a story: Since Zillow happened I've been watching the homes I've lived in. I was born at Mt Carmel in '61 but we moved a ways west in '68 like many did. One of those homes, a beautiful duplex in Bagley that my great grandfather had built and that my family had lived in & us 3 kids were born in. It was sold in 2020 for $100,000. The speculator converted it into a single family home and sold it in early '23 for a spectacular sum of money. Last month I asked my elderly mom if she wanted to swing by when I was visiting. She told me she hadn't been there since '71 when my gma sold it. I said "let's go", so we did. We had hoped that maybe the owners would be around, but they weren't. But I left my card in case they wanted to learn the history of the property. Mike, a successful engineer and musician called and was so excited to invite us over! Around thanksgiving we'll be there pouring out what mom knows about this little castle in the city. Oh, and GO LIONS!
This isn't just a story of rampant, pell mell growth to help put the bad old days behind and forget about the past. This is about thoughtful, inclusive what-do-we-want-our-city-to-look-like ten, twenty, fifty years from now and will our grandchildren not only prosper in it but continue on a constructive path of progress and development, too. This is true renaissance, rebirth phoenix-like and an example for the whole world, as well. 😊
That video of the of the officers and the woman with a knife reminded me of a situation that happened with me in the past when I was 16 or 17 living in a not so good neighborhood and I was having a mental health crisis. My family and I had a long history of mental health issues due to trauma and poverty. My whole family was so messed up that one time back in my home town (the next town over from where this happened) I told the police my last name and one of the officers said something along the lines of "ah I've heard about you guys". Anyway, my mother called the police and I did not get treated at all like what was shown in this video. When the police arrived I was sitting on the living room floor and they busted through the door yelling and pointing big ol guns at me. Imagine that. A teenage girl crying on the cold tile floor in a mostly empty living room surrounded by 4 police officers with their guns drawn. They saw me as a threat and not a child in crisis. I'm glad that the administration in Detroit understand that some people just need help and arresting them doesn't fix the core problem. I'm out of that home situation now and have more average stresses like bills and a job I hate. lol
I know these dilapidated houses need to come down, but I wish there was a priority to tear down frame homes instead of the brick homes. Some of these brick homes were the epitome of architectural brilliance. They're really beautiful. It's a shame what happened to the City of Detroit over the last 50 years. A real shame.
Are they going to pass laws that keep the taxes low for long term property owners who have been in there properties longterm and are older? I hope they do. When development happens in low income neighborhoods their taxes go up because property values increase and they tend to lose their homes. I just watched this elder speak about this in Cleveland. A lot of older people are on fixed income. Most of them are.
I went to detroit last month for the first time. It was real nice. Streets were clean, downtown was pleasant, it was safe and there was development everywhere. Id definitely go back and spend more time there.
Great video but just a minor nitpick, it's Highway 401 not 101 in Windsor. Thanks for highlighting the wonderful things going on in my city!

This is true renaissance, rebirth phoenix-like and an example for the whole world, as well. 😊
what a coincidence that i'm gonna drive to Detroit at the time of this videos release
Nice, don't watch and drive tho ;)
Such a well-constructed recap of the Detroit's comeback! Love this.
This is so inspiring ❤
Why am I about to cry watching the last part of this video??! We need this kind of training all across the country.
Best mayor we’ve had in my lifetime.
I'm out of that home situation now and have more average stresses like bills and a job I hate. lol
Thank you for sharing that story. I am so sorry that happened to you-happy to hear you’re in a more stable situation now! Keep up the good work!
Indeed. I also wonder how much of the material is salvageable or is it all going straight to landfill?
I'm proud of you Detroit, keep it up ❤
Beautiful city! Proud of Detroit!
Do Milwaukee at some point! Rich history with a unique economy post rust belt collapse
This is how every police department in the country should be operated!
8:15 - damn that was emotional, what an amazing team
That bodycam footage was incredible
Love to see it
Got to say Mayor Duffan is amazing!! Maybe he can save my hometown of San Francisco - we need him !
Duggan not Duffan
@@victormuhammad2678 whoops !
Love to see the renewal!
this story deserves a "love" button
This should be a president😢
If the Democrats are smart as they rebuild, they'd be wise to elevate Duggan as a Clinton-like politican after years of Republican rule.
Thank you
Shame this guy isn’t running for president it’d be nice to hear some sensible debate and strategy and less arguments and hate
Definitely
I went to detroit last month for the first time. It was real nice. Streets were clean, downtown was pleasant, it was safe and there was development everywhere. Id definitely go back and spend more time there.
