  • I have begun activities to regenerate trees that have been cut down for various reasons.
    All the logs I use are scraps.
    In most cases, collect the cuttable pieces and give them to a recycler.
    The video shows a scene making a yellow goblet from a tree branch.
    Very advanced design work has been completed, so I'm glad to see it to the end!

    A beautiful piece with a super honey colour , more of a chalice than a goblet though. The re-profiled scraper does a lovely job on the initial hollowing too. Many thanks for brightening a grey and wet morning.

    The cup is beautiful, but will you make it out of fresh wood, will it crack later?

    • @YamabikoWoodArt
      @YamabikoWoodArt  3 года назад +6

      Thank you for your comment!🙇🇯🇵 If you finish it all at once, it will not crack. There is a risk of cracking if the thickness is 1 cm or more. Uses a paint that cures in response to moisture. Made in Japan, it is a safe product for eating and drinking.

    松は時間が経つと飴色に変わっていくのが好きです。アンバーカラーともいいますね。

      以前製作した松の作品は見事にあめ色になりました。
      木に関してまだまだ勉強が足りないもので、皆さんのコメントで勉強させて頂いてます。
      おっしゃるように、ヤニと水分が多くて狭い工房中に飛び散って大変でした。しかし、松は透過性と良く加工もしやすいので好きです。
      話は変わりますが、風にそよぐグラスが無事に完成しそうです🍷

    Nice goblet.
    I turn goblets too - mainly from olive wood.
    Do you use Tung oil or Linseed oil as a finish, to make the goblet safe for drinking?
    Also, why do you make it so thin?
    Doesn't it make the goblet too weak?
    I try to make my goblets at least 0.5 cm. thick on the sides of the bowl, to make them strong enough (yet not so heavy) and to prevent leaks (I leave only the edge area a bit thinner for comfort when the lips touch it).

    • @YamabikoWoodArt
      @YamabikoWoodArt  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for your comment!🙇🇯🇵 In Japan, almost no olive trees grow naturally. Olives are so beautiful that I want to turn them someday. There are several reasons to make a goblet thin. One is that delicate and thin works tend to be preferred. In addition, the strength is not a problem because it uses a paint that cures in response to the moisture of the wood. It is a safe paint made in Japan and is also water resistant. And it's a rare value because no one makes very thin goblets.
