Reno is without a shadow of a doubt the most under rated city in the U.S. Yes downtown is kind of scuzzy, but less than 5 miles out you have world class out door recreation. Three huge ski resorts, lake Tahoe 20 miles away, kayaking the Truckee river, running hiking hunting and cycling in the Sierra Nevada's and at the end of the day gambling and fine dining downtown. Throw in a great climate, the convenience of a big city, and no state income tax... C'mon.
Gary Thornton You're right. Reno is becoming a better place to live. It isn't just a gambling town now. I plan to move there next Spring and we can't wait.
Mike I like reno more than portland, though portland is a wonderful place to live. I've also lived in Fiji and North Shore Oahu. I love everywhere I've lived but I prefer Reno. it has the biggest variety of anywhere I've lived whether it's people, climate, activities, weather, etc. Plus Tahoe is sort of a trump card. but I guess that's why it's a good thing there are so many different places to live. Personally my goal is to end up in Reno.
I love Reno, and always have. I've lived in Northern Nevada my whole life and nothing is better than the scenery. Once you get out of downtown there are great parks, nature walks and so on.
I grew up in Wadsworth (30 miles East of Reno). Reno was like going to NYC when I was a kid. I live in Portugal now and love it but I will always be from Northern Nevada and proud of it
I Live in Vegas and recently visited the Carson/Reno area. Absolutely beautiful! I just laugh when people leave comments on how dirty Reno is and how much Crime it has. Has anyone of you been to any major cities before lmao! ? LMAO. RENO is Mayberry compared to cities like Phoenix and Vegas. What you guys consider the bad part of town in Reno is like our suburbs in Vegas lmao! Appreciate what you guys have. Here in Vegas is brown and ugly. Real crime and gangs. Not wanna bees.
Hector Lalalala yea, Vegas is not that bad. It’s a big city, what do you expect? Los Angeles or NYC aren’t clean either, and Reno as well. Every city has its ups and downs, no such thing as a perfect city. Why don’t people just appreciate the good parts of a city instead of pointing out the bad parts and being negative.
The difference flyguy is that Reno allows the homeless and allows crime in it's tourist corridor. The casinos are half empty because the tourists witness this one time and never come back.
I wish I could, I was about to buy a house in Sparks in 2000 2001, something came up and I lost my job in IGT, so my dreams, now I live probably 1000s mile away. But Reno is always the best place to live and work, probably soon I'll come for a visit.
Danny Rodriguez Yeah, I'm from Vegas...and still love visiting Reno. Nevada as a whole is a great state, and it's huge...I am always in awe when I visit new parts of it.
Daniel Feds I hated it over there, I moved over there because I got a job at Tesla and I was let go after working there for a year and 2 months, and gratefully came back home in North Las Vegas, Nevada. I had no family in Reno and felt very lonely and became a recluse and thought I’d never come back home and that I’d also die over there.
I was born in Reno Nevada and I love coming here when I need a vacation day great restaurants wonderful people I would highly recommend that you come here.i love you Reno Nevada(from winnemucca Nevada)
Never been there in my life- Just retired and am moving there next Spring. Just want to go somewhere new- Hope I like it! Cheaper than So. Cal. and no state tax so my retirement buck will go a bit farther!
I always see the mayor and the old governor walking around and at the grocery store. Down the street from my house the old mayor lives too. It is like everyone is one big family here.
I love Reno too! I have been here for over 17 years, I have watched it grow and progress, I use to live in So California and short time in Las Vegas, Reno is my forever home, I live by the River and Dwontown and I simply love it.
I get the biggest nostalgia thinking about Reno. I lived there until I was twelve and then moved to Utah. I have a big pain in my chest when I think of the Truckee river, the casinos, all my friends, the good times I had. I just want to go back to that time. I went back but I didn't find my old apartments and I can't die happy until I go back. One day guys one day.
I love Reno. Lived here for 9 years. I am from the south, but happy to call Northern Nevada my home. Come out August 16th 2014 and join the Bee Parade! facebook.com/events/322044251304480/
Lived in Reno in the late 90's. I think I remember that Joe Hart guy from the news back then..wow, he looks a lot older. Anyhow, I do miss Reno at times(live in Asia now) and it was(maybe still is) a nice middle sized city, good weather, a lot of events in town like Hot August Nights, the balloon races, etc. I'll never live there again, but I will always have positive memories of the place.
When I got off the train in 2007 as a new Reno Resident, the mountains took my breath away. (And that was in June!) The beauty of this place and the amount of stuff to do year round makes me glad to have moved here. People are friendly here and I have moved around o lot. I never want to leave Reno. I love it here.
I live in Vegas with 3 kids and a wife. Seriously thinking about moving to northern Nevada. What neighborhoods are nice for families on a $350,000 budget for a home?
That part of the Sahara that you stayed in was called the bi level complex. I used to attend the high end audio exhibits that were part of the Consumer Electronics Show in that building, until it was demolished in around 1998
This video should be running all the time on one of the Community Service channels. Redding, CA has a couple of videos that run and they give insights into the town and the region. Nice work!
I was born and raised in Reno since I turned 20 I lived in San Antonio, Summit County CO, Montana, LA, and now reside in Long Island and I say there is no place like Reno. Dont take it for granted! See the horses, drive to the top of Peavine at night and look down on the city, watch the baloon races, take the long way home around Tahoe.
Hi, Ryan! Me, from Reno-This guy is calling the TRUKEE RIVER, the "Reno" River. People used to say stand on a hill in Reno and you can SEE "Sparks!" lived in both; They call their special summer holiday, "Hot August Nights!?" Was never hot to me; we from California, Cool Breezes August Nights in Reno- Yep, the flood took the whole restaurant on the Truckee River when we lived there; There are a heck of allot more things to DO in Reno-We moved to Chico-so I know! Floods aren't that common you know ? I wrote the Chamber of Commerce when I lived there, said thy ought to hire some horse and sleigh drivers to circle the Virginia Lake area; and flood it over for some ice skating too; but they weren't in, they ere all out at the casinos I suppose! I kind of miss Reno, actually-San Diego's too expensive to live and can't afford to move to Laguna Hills!!
I dont understand all the Reno haters. I love Reno. Maybe living in the downtown area would suck but I live in Damonte Ranch and love the views and proximity to the mountains and hiking. Oh, and being 25 miles from Lake Tahoe and 15 miles from Virginia City isn't too shabby either. Damonte Ranch High School is great and so is the church we attend, Grace Church Reno!
To show you one example there was a case the other day of a man dying in court as his law suit was proceeding against Wachovia. That bank had asserted that he owed the bank 14,000 dollars for back taxes that they paid for him. Unfortunately for him he paid his taxes directly to the county and the bank had incorrectly paid the taxes on a different property. The bank foreclosed on his property. Does this sound like the property owner was at fault?
I'm a new resident & decided to retire here in Reno. This video has shown me some thing I was unaware of. Will probably take in a baseball game this weekend. I did enjoy Hot August Night & all the cars last week.
Oh gosh...I wish I could live in Reno....looks so nice there...maybe I should leave my country and settle down there...I mean wow! This lake is gorgeous!
Literally The bad things that people say about Reno Almost NEVER Happens. I live in Reno And it’s so peaceful And there’s No Sign Of Trouble Anywhere. And if you say bad things about it, Then JUST MOVE. Josh people these days.
I visited Reno for the first time last April to see Ozzy Osbourne at the Reno Arena, not sure what its called. It was one of the grratest times of my life! I love Reno!
Tesla, Amazon, all sorts of gov't jobs, restaurants everywhere, Sparks next door that is also great. Where can you get steak and lobster, chinese, vietnamese, great burgers, play some machines, at 3am? The putdoors during the day, Lake Tahoe, VC, California next door, mountains, desert, and some bad drivers that moved here. You can't win 'em all but overall great. Don't forget the skiing and summer events.
oh please.....most of the jobs coming up are for production and lower level pay scales while the housing market is rising with no logic other than greed. OF COURSE, you're selling real estate! the latest scam on the market! no thanks. not in Reno.
I am an outdoor kind of person so Reno best suited my nature. I live next to a big casino but have only been in it twice..spent 2 bucks on slots walking through. I am unemployed and would like it better if i could find a good job. But I am not really convinced that the problems we have here our non-existent elsewhere..but having the Sierra Nevada MT to look at and hike in and Tahoe near by--helps to deal with the negative side ..
Bro, I have lived in Las Vegas for 20+ years. I've recently visited Reno because my kid goes to college there. It is a dark, dismal, cold, horrible casino life city.
after 9 months of living in Reno I want to leave so bad, the place is a homeless camp in the downtown section and the roads are garbage. The winters suck but that's just a personal opinion. Southern Nevada is the only part worth giving a damn.
homeless is everywhere man! specially downtown areas. south nv is a prostitutes camp, you can cook eggs on your car's hood, no need for pans, big savings!
from 1998 to 2002 I lived in Reno until I joined the army....living in Reno got me prepared for being in Iraq, only 2 differences~ the amount of sand and the number of people shooting back with ak-47's. almost not joking... good luck to all those still there. ride safer people =)
Damn you have me thinking now > I'm considering moving from Houston to Reno. I like to see some black and brown myself. Just used to the Houston diversity
there's not a huge percentage of black and native American people, but Hispanics are 25% of the population. Also no humidity. Houston is diverse but is too humid.
I miss Reno so much…lived there for 2 years…from 2021-2023 and some of the best years of my life.
I grew up in Massachusetts, I now live in Texas. Reno looks really nice. The west is beautiful.
Ioved from Houston to Austin recently. How do you like Texas so far ?
East coast is too expensive without the space

Gary Thornton You're right. Reno is becoming a better place to live. It isn't just a gambling town now. I plan to move there next Spring and we can't wait.
That's because you sell real estate. Come on. Reno compared to Portland? That's like majors vs minors.
Come on Greg Wilson you sell real estate
Reno is changing from just being a convention and gaming town.
I live in Portugal now and love it but I will always be from Northern Nevada and proud of it
Rental costs have ruined Reno. Wages will never catch up.
Its even worse now
I Live in Vegas and recently visited the Carson/Reno area. Absolutely beautiful! I just laugh when people leave comments on how dirty Reno is and how much Crime it has. +flyguy7885 As someone who has lived in both Las Vegas and Reno, I completely agree with you.
Soulless people inhabit "Vegas." Or Elvis, Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton impersonators.
Vegas is not that bad. I love it

I lived and worked in Reno almost for four years, Loved it , Great city
I wish I could, I was about to buy a house in Sparks in 2000 2001, something came up and I lost my job in IGT, so my dreams, now I live probably 1000s mile away.

Danny Rodriguez Yeah, I'm from Vegas...and still love visiting Reno. Nevada as a whole is a great state, and it's huge...I am always in awe when I visit new parts of it.
Reno is nothing like Vegas lol.
It seems realer vegas seems sp fake this seems like an actual city.
It’s like a mini Vagas . I lived here for 22 years . It’s not that’s great unless you are into drugs and drinking .
Daniel Feds I hated it over there, I moved over there because I got a job at Tesla and I was let go after working there for a year and 2 months, and gratefully came back home in North Las Vegas, Nevada. I was raised in reno 60 years ago it was better then
Damn, just looking at the buildings in the background, Reno has changed now. So much development and progress has happened withing 8 years.
Not going to lie I miss Reno
It’s different now. A lot of Californians moved in, and the city didn’t plan well for its growth. Still love it.
I know it's old but "Reno is so close to hell that you can see Sparks!"
what are the job opportunities? is the cost of living pretty high? (rents, property opportunities etc)
Elyssa Vanscoy and McDonald's lol 😂
Reno was nice back in 1975 thru the early 90's .
I love Reno too! I have been here for over 17 years, I have watched it grow and progress, I use to live in So California and short time in Las Vegas, Reno is my forever home, I live by the River and Dwontown and I simply love it.
I found this video very interesting and helpful as I am thinking of relocating to Reno. I’m definitely interested in this wonderful looking city!

I live in Vegas with 3 kids and a wife. Seriously thinking about moving to northern Nevada. What neighborhoods are nice for families on a $350,000 budget for a home?
I can't wait to move back to Reno Jun of 2015 my kids are excided too everything in Reno is great fun and exciding. Missing Reno NV.
I actually caught a fish in the ballpark toilet! Amazing Reno!
My wife and I love it here. Especially if you're an outdoors enthusiast, there are endless opportunities. We do need more snow this winter though.
That part of the Sahara that you stayed in was called the bi level complex. I used to attend the high end audio exhibits that were part of the Consumer Electronics Show in that building, until it was demolished in around 1998
that city has a underground vibe that is world leading !
.....
My brother lives there. I visited him on several occasions and I loved it there.
I love reno I remember when I went there with my ex lovely wife I miss her and I miss reno...
Reno is just like Fresno, just missing the F & S.

Reno has changed a lot in the last couple of years but I still love it. It’s very true that there are so many things we take for granted living here.
Whats changed
ReggaeEli Californians are ruining it. Not all of them but a lot of them are

I moved out of SF 30 years ago could not take it anymore...I wish you well...
Same here. Done with SF.
@HOLYBANANAS1968 when I move there, I vote conservative. I would never want reno to be san Francisco. I see what the crazy dems did here.
HOLYBANANAS1968 Reno and Nevada votes Blue, you dummy 🙄

I think it was in the Grand Sierra Resort hotel
The world knows Reno for one thing. The most spectacular air race ever! The Ghost would not want you to forget that! Don't forget him :) GSVNIVH
Is it fairly easy to get a job in Reno? Is there an independent movie theater?
Tesla, Amazon, all sorts of gov't jobs, restaurants everywhere, Sparks next door that is also great. Where can you get steak and lobster, chinese, vietnamese, great burgers, play some machines, at 3am? The putdoors during the day, Lake Tahoe, VC, California next door, mountains, desert, and some bad drivers that moved here. You can't win 'em all but overall great. Is it good for government jobs?
oh please.....most of the jobs coming up are for production and lower level pay scales while the housing market is rising with no logic other than greed. OF COURSE, you're selling real estate! the latest scam on the market! no thanks. not in Reno.
Stop selling! everything you say feels biased because of REAL ESTATE in your name. It feels you're trying to con people into moving there
I plan to move to Reno, maybe in my forties when the appeal of Vegas life wears off. I'll never leave Nevada though. Love my state.
Used to drink coffee so quiet by water now crowded wow sucks
Because of what they have said, 3 out of 5 people who lives in Reno, moved here.

Oh my, I remember downtown Reno around Virginia St back in the 90s the streets were filled with people! Now it's completely empty

As a tourist, I loved Reno. We gambled, got drunk, went hiking, went climbing, hit golf balls, and ate steak and eggs for 5 bucks, all in one weekend.
The views are incredible. The view in my back yard is view that you would get from a 10M house

@ sunny. Reno nevada i guess im used to cali ha. Its not bad its cuz of the construction and the freeway isnt wide enough compared to other places
Even with its second changing weather and lack of things to do at times, this place is alright.
Those mountains are best part of Reno.
Reno has similar skyline as Los Angeles and Seattle
