I highly recommend proteins like rabbit as they are more hypoallergenic for cats and dogs. There's a brand called Vital Essentials that has freeze-dried raw rabbit nibs. So you get the benefit of the raw but also the convenience of it being shelf-stable. I use freeze-dried raw for my cats' automatic feeders and add a bit of water in the food tray to rehydrate. :) The kitties are adorable!
fancy feast is a budget friendly brand and does have a bad reputation for being equalivent to Mcdonalds. But the dry matter basis is very close to what cats would naturally eat like mice where the carbs are under 5%. Even though it has meat by products, for the price point and nutritional composition, its okay to add to cats food rotation. Recommend only the pates (chopped grilled, beef and chicken and beef & liver), these 3 contain no fish and low in carbs & high moisture content :)
Oooh good tip! I have the Stella & Chewys morsels but im definitely gonna look into more rabbit. Unfortunately, Mochi started to get picky with the fancy feast Pate but I definitely used that technique for boarding kitties who decided they didn’t want their food from home. Thanks for sharing :)
