NC500 on a YB100cc Day 8 - First I must apologise for the length of this video - I try to keep them below half an hour but when there are so many beautiful things to see thats difficult. Even now I needed to "fast forward" riding through a beautiful valley but for those who want to see it in real time, I will publish the ride through the calley again in a few days.
Today I had company again, this time for the whole of my ride to Applecross on the Coast Road. Craig met me at the hotel in Ullapool - the reason I look the way I do and he looks the way he does has, I am sure, some relation to the breakfast I had while he drank coffee!
We set off together - Craig was riding his 1964 Ariel 250cc and soon after we turned right off the main road, we met up with John on his specially imported Honda CT125.
Craig rode with us to his home for a coffee and he showed his eclectic collection of bikes - very interesting to hear of his life crofting and how the willing and able are expected to turn their hand to anything if needed.
After parting with Craig, John and I rode on around Gruinard Bay - beautiful coastline, stopping for a bite of lunch in the Gairloch community centre.
Heading on towards Applecross, we traversed the beautiful valley between Kinlochewe to Torridon where we stopped for a cuppa.
The final section of this tour was to take the breathtakingly beautiful coastal road to Applecross where I parted company with John - what a guy to have spent all day with me? Amazing.
Had a nice evening in the Applecross Inn, spoke to lots of people and then....BANG - a huge thunderstorm!
    What a day.....!

If anyone is thinking of going June is good but the Dutch start turning up after week one and camping out in their motorhomes and campervans in every bit of free parking as they cycle it in stages, and they do not know how to use passing places when on the road.

So very good of Craig and especially John to give you so much of their time. It's said that it's not the trip itself, but rather the people we meet along the way that make it so interesting.

As meteorology would have it, I rode from bright sunshine in Applecross into the cloud base about 2/3rd of the way to the top of the pass, so my view from the top was....cloud. Use to do the Fort William to Applecross round day trip about every other year in the 80/90/00's. Once saw a nuclear armed, nuclear powered submarine across the bay with its missile ports open. There was a large warship guarding the entrance to the bay. The floor of the bay opposite goes to 1000 ft (yes thousand). below sea level. The last road you followed is relatively new, from the 60/70's and the old foot/pack horse/ drovers track can be seen at the sides of the 'new' road in many places. Access was easier by boat then by road/track in't old days.

Also rob did you do any camping or was it all B and B. Reminds me of the time I toured on my first bike a bsa bantam bushman model, really had great fun with that wee bike.

Absolutely not - no camping - to old and fat and no room for the gear on the little bike !

Really enjoying your videos Rob but had to turn the volume off on this one, it really is an assault of the ear. The bike sounds like an angry wasp.

Well Max - at least you could turn it off or down. I was sat on it - drove me nuts !! Thanks for your comment. PS - I need to find a way to record my speech without the engine being annoying - trouble is, I cant talk constantly so you have to have some background sound....I will dub on the sound of a harley ! 😄

@@RobLittleuk It's been ok throughout these episodes it's just this one, Have you had your visor up or in a different position? I'm not complaining Rob just would like you to get it right for yourself, keep safe and keep up the good work

@@maxturner3604 No no.....I welcome comments about everything. I have a a very basic camera set up on this trip - a GoPro clamped to the bars and thats what I am speaking into so all the bike sound comes from that. I have a flip helmet so either talking through the open visor or with the flip up. If I had a mic inside the helmet you would get me taking but hear nothing when I was quiet - except me breathing. Question of getting a happy medium !! Appreciate your words.
