Yeah, I can agree with you on that. They walked away with no injuries for those drivers, but talk about a big bang against the railings and fences for the boys.
Fun fact, at 1:11:00 you can see Bob Glidden trying to walk back towards the car while the safety guys are pulling him away from it. It's because he was trying to cover the intake/carburetors so no one could see the configuration since they were closely-guarded Pro Stock secrets so he put (I believe) his gloves over the top to block visibility.
I miss these vidoes. The new, young guns should watch these and listen and realize the lack of today's safety gear these race vehicles had. And little or no computer management on them as well - way before Facebook's plans for world domination.
Keep complaining old man. Every generation will think that of the last. I'm sure just like you watched them when they were new, us younger people watch current videos. People in 30 years will never watch 2022 racing and think its safe either
American motor sports crashes in 1980s. NHRA Drag Racing, World of Outlaws Racing, IMSA and SCCA Racing. TNN Motor sports and Diamond p sports. And they walked away vol. 1 and Too Fast Drivers R.i.P American sports Cavalcade.
I watched that movie allot when I was young. Don't get me wrong, i am not an old man. I am only 25 years old:) Not that its matters, i just wanted to say it.
This first installment of ATWA has always struck me as a bit of an odd duck, an example of Early Installment Weirdness - rodeo, of all things, plus only a single NHRA crash while Volumes II-V were chock full of them...
If you had this on VHS your Childhood was great.
Mine was awful, but I did have this.
Watched this multiple times per week as a kid for years. Still have the vhs tape and vcr and my kids are watching the same tape in 2024.
Still have VHS.😁
I used to watch these videos every Christmas with my uncles. Greatest days of my life. RIP Steve Evans. You made racing more fun to watch. ❤
Childhood memories! I swear I have watched this countless times and I still never get tired of it!
I have this on VHS somewhere, I am very glad that someone putted this on RUclips.
Thank you so much for that:)
10:53 Really scary crash and accident they did.

Absolutely very scary crash I ever see.
42:30 Ouch. That was pretty bad with the accident.

Amen!
If you’re on 2 wheels, the safety equipment hasn’t changed much.
I wish I was around when this was on TV. I would gladly watch it.

I’ve been watching these since I was 5, and it’s just fascinating how tough they were
I had this on VHS and was totally amazed when Bo Glidden walked out of that car.
Every time we went to jegs to get race parts i got these movies. Brings back some great memories from my childhood

@@DUxMORTEM I’m 15 and I watched this a lot in my childhood
Am I old?
Huge mistake canceling Diamond P & Cavalcade!
AAAAAAH NOSTALGIA
Knoxville in this video looks unrecognizable without billboards and trees by the fence. So much has changed!
It's been a long time since I've heard TNN instead of Spike Tv
Thats true
The NASCAR footage from the beginning mainly comes from the 1982 CRC Chemicals 500. This is the only known footage of the event to have resurfaced.
3:58 It's true.
Holy crap I used to watch this on VHS with my childhood friend Kevin. Fun times.
He should be arrested for destroying that beautiful Jaguar not once but twice
I’ve still got the tape for this
How many came here after Neil deGrasse Tyson spoke about this in Star Talk? :D

I felt sorry for the swamp queen. Oh dear, the dry cleaning bill for her... Um. And the dress too.
