My Vietnamese wife always knocks on the door of our house and waits a few minutes before walking in, if we haven't been home for a long time. (for example after going on vacation). She says this is to allow spirits who have moved into the empty home to leave, or else we will upset them by intruding suddenly.
actually that's quite an old custom, and it sounds more logical to me, rather than mở hàng 😅
Sadly your channel doesnt get the recognition it deserves. Im a viet that grew up in germany and have decided to move to vietnam after my studies. Your podcast has helped me out a ton and i rlly enjoy your vlog videos, it helps me learn vietnamese as well as the culture a bit more since I myself have been go vietnam only 3 times. Cảm ơn em nhiều for the kind words : )
The first one also applies to Nepal. But in the opposite, it's good to go shopping in the morning. More space for bargaining since they want to make their first business so much!
thats interesting! Some Vietnamese do that as well. But it really depends on the shop
Thank you very much for explaining Vietnamese superstitions! This was really interesting to watch. I'm Vietnamese diaspora and I liked learning about superstitions. I wasnt aware of the superstition about going to shops early until I watched your videos. Thank you very much for making these videos and sharing them!

Great! Thanks for the video. I will be taking a vacation in Vietnam in three weeks and want to be able to speak a little bit of the langauge.
Chur good vid will give it a go :)
Informative, interesting and as always you speak at a speed easy to follow. This makes your channel (for me) the best. Thank you.
Thank you, glad that you liked it : )
Before an exam people don't eat peanuts, but my friend told me they do eat other beans (đậu) because it sounds like "thi đỗ" (pass the exam).
yeah true!
❤
Thanks for the vid! 😊 In Germany the younger Generations are not very superstitious. At least the people I know. 😂 Older people still often claim for higher powers instead of coincidences though.
thank you for sharing : )
Hey, I used Google translate for the meaning of "trộm vía" and it means stealing? It didn't make sense, can you please explain? Thank you for your channel, it is great! 🙏🏽
