Funny timing I was looking at information today on this exact thing for my car. I’m considering going from 18” wheels to 17” wheels so I can get more sidewall, and then do something like this. I drive 200 miles a day during the week and I’ve been realizing I want to try and make my car as comfortable as possible.
I just saw this, and wanted to say i'm glad to see a E36 build that isn't stripping it out to go racecar esque. pland on redoing all the old insulation on my E38 build i've got going on.
Back when I worked for BMW, even on the newer stuff the carpet is like that at the front, I did exactly what you did. Cut as far out of sight as possible, but of course I claimed time for full dash removal if warranty were paying 😉
Just got myself a e36 vert in Hellrot. Today its gonna get a new soft top, new suspension and bushings and if theres enough time also an interior detail :)
It's amazing how well the interior holds up on these older cars especially the carpet. My 2013 civic already has clear coat failure even though as the second owner I have tried my best at maintaining it. Some spots such as around the gas lid the paint was sprayed very thin. It's embarrassing. The carpet is absolute garbage. If it wasn't for my all weather mats I'd probably already be Fred Flintstoning it though the carpet.
I would add the sound deadening behind the glass window with direct contact to the outer metal on the outer shell. Straight metal contact on the panels that make noise is optimal.
The doors need the windows out to aply the sound deadning on the inside of the door. I would suggest felt tape where things clip and bolt to everywhere and will cut down a lot of squeaks and rubbing noises too
Nice job! I literally did the exact same thing on my old forester when I first got it. Sounded like a tin can before. The only thing I did different was I added a foam topper after the sound deadening. I had planned to add a decent sound system so it would have helped with the acoustics and it helped keep the heat out and the cold in. I did the roof and doors as well as the tub. Sounded pretty solid afterwards. Almost as good as my Lexus from factory. 😂
Will additional sound deadening help in a convertible? Isn't the roof just tarpaulin? I am now restoring an e36 sedan and when I pulled out the old carpet I also cut it around the heater 😂 But I found and bought a bmw individual carpet - Paul Klee edition.
funny ... i ripped my whole e36 coupe interieur into pices. just to remove the factory sound deadening. 🤣 just to make it like 20 kilos lighter and sound more "tin-canny" greetings from germany . you got some great cars and basicly the same BMW 90#s addiction like i have
I’m a year late, but PLEASE make that interior video for this car. I just got an e36 M3 shell that’s completely gutted. I’d like to see the process can’t find the video
selfish informational question... what do you think this added for weight after applying? personally looking for a solution for my own projects :D rad as always chromatic!
I would put sound deadening on my e36 Cabrio too but when I found out cabrios weigh significantly more than a coupe, it made me so pissed-off and I am scared putting even a few more pounds of this sound deadening. I don't wanna make it slower...

I’ve been looking forever for those seats , I have them and I want the fabric for my door cards, do you know the name or where I can get some?
Hey Mate. Great work again 👍👍
Cinematic garage!

I really hope the new interior involves Vaders o Recaros, and some caramel leather :)

I love this car , I have same 318 i cabrio , but unfortunately I can’t put another engine in italy 😭
Do you know how much the weight was increased after installing sound deadening?

How much meters of sound deadening will I need for a E30 4 door? Also what thickness? 1.8mm is enough or too slim?
s13 interior is similar with that center console issue. had to do some cutting as well

rad as always chromatic!
On their site they say you need 4 of these rolls for a convertible and each roll weights 7 lbs.
@18:45 save form cigarette lighter

6:03 What happened here? Because it doesn’t show exactly what he did to take out the carpet, do I think he cut the carpet?
Damn your good
#e36 doorcard update?
To prevent the rust from the seats back onto the carpet just spray paint the rails 🤷🏻♂️

You do amazing videos, but your sound quality a bit hit and miss, get yourself a rode mic...
👌

The lighting sucks on this one, to dark!?
intake missfires
В кабриолете шумо изоляцию делать? Вы серьезно? Это как утеплять балкон. Ну или террасу. IMHO.
