Kries Ramkhelawan I A tribute to Ustad Rampersad Ramkhelawan

Ustad Rampersad Ramkhelawan popularity grew in the decades since he was twenty. He was the lead singer for several music groups. From 1971 onwards he was declared the champion of Suriname three times during baithak-gana competitions.
Ramkhelawan was recognized nationally and internationally for his pioneering work in baithak gana. At the 2011 International Baithak-gana Festival, the genre's SORES patron, Ram Sardjoe, distinguished him as baithak-gáná guru. The Surinamese president awarded him the gold medal of honor for his social and cultural achievements.
With this tribute we want to remind the youth of this great legend. We attempt to learn the future generations about our forefathers and the legendary music they have left behind for us.
