I use to drive those landrovers, and with hindsight and being around several nasty accidents with them, I would suggest getting a safety devices roll cage for the Landrover. The area where you live is prone to roll overs. A roll bar and wearing seatbelt will mean your chickens getting fed and your beautiful home being finished. Telling you out of respect and love, but please consider one, and do not let your male machismo say no. Love your channel, and it's a privilege that you share your life with us.

@@Annemarieke58I'm all for the carbon-footprint discussion, but then don't think you're making any constructive contribution by just pointing out the lowest hanging fruit. "But look at that giant puff of exhaust gas that car produces!". If you want to be critical, then also point out the use of cement in the building. And the use of wood fires, which puts a lot of pollution into the air. Question that Martijn is supporting the RUclips/Google capitalist megacorporation with his videos. And that YOU are fine with the giant energy-sucking server infrastructure providing you every Sunday with a new cozy feel-good video. And to top it off, let's play the game of "Is Martijn's off-grid life or my on-grid life better for this planet?”.
But maybe... just maybe, let's not be low-effort judgmental and appreciate that life and people are far more complex than some superficial observations you happen to not agree with.

I’ve been looking so forward to these videos each weekend. I finally realized that I could get a more complete understanding of Martin’s work and goals by going back thru the library of videos. The history video during which he visits a “historian’’ and learns of the migratory culture that has passed into history was great to give more awareness of the later work. Also to see the evolution of the cabins and remind me of the tremendous amount of physical labor, self education and the humility of Martin as he admits how much he has to learn and teach himself to advance the project.

Boy, this one really brought back some memories for me. I immigrated to British Columbia, Canada in the the early 1970s when I was 21. My first purchase was my red 4 cylinder Landrover, aluminum with a hand crank. We went everywhere through the interior of BC a kayak, and tent on the roof. Slow, rough, but went everywhere. My Toyota Rav4 is great, but no character. Only thing in common is me, now 71, and the surfski on the roof, instead of the downriver kayak I used to paddle. Thank you Martin for bringing back some good memories. My first Landrover stayed in North America when I moved to Teyateyaneng, Lesotho, Africa with a mohair trading license, everything there at the time in 70s was no road, horses and walk and another Landrover too but thats a different story. Good to see you every week, working dreaming and doing. Thanks again for sharing your story.

100% agree. I'll also never tire of making people aware of just how much effort goes into these "nice looking shots". Scouting an interesting scene, planning and setting up the camera/drone, performing the scene as naturally as possible, taking down the camera/drone again, repeat that many many many times a day, sifting through and editing the footage to just the best parts, wrapping everything into coherent storytelling, tie it together with a great soundscape. So. much. effort. And it's not just the obviously grand shots. Every single little scene - - "Martjin walks past the swing", "Martijn lets out the chickens", "Martijn preps coffee" - is effort that adds up.

I love the sauna idea - I am a Finn after all - but I think especially with the view you could have, I'd do it in a separate building with a decent sized window, so you'd have the mountains opening up in front of you while enjoying some good "löylyt". Though I understand it might be difficult to get permits for yet another building, and you don't want to go through that process, but I'd seriously ponder the option if I were you.

Ages ago, when I lived in a hand-hewn log house built by my partner, on a river in the woods, I drove an old 1930's power wagon, a logging machine which in lowest low gear, I could get out and walk beside, steering through the window, for slogging through boggy land. I want to give you an advice for the next videos you are going to publish: when you are remembering some old episodes (like big snowfall for example), you could use a little clips (5-10 seconds) of old videos in flashback mode, with softer colors in order to distinguish it from the current video. This way, you can give the chance to see the most particular moments to those people that haven't seen all the previous episodes.

She would leave the house with a kettle and keys in the winter, but saved one of our neighbours lives when the ambulance couldn’t get anywhere near their house, he had fallen and was not in a good way. In the end it was stolen, which we were amazed at because we lived in the middle of nowhere. I thought she was going to cry when she saw your 3 series.
