The lake district where my heart finds rest and solitude, I have trekked and backpacked all around this diamond of England and where you are guaranteed at the end of the day a hearty meal and a great pint in all the pubs thereof.
Yes it is! I filmed this about 6 years ago now and still haven't found any better roads in Britain! The roads in Spain look nice though (from what I have seen anyway) so hopefully they are enough to take your mind off it! lol Thanks for watching :)
I drove up the pass as far as the Honister slate mine, it was Easter Bank Holiday and the rest was closed off due to heavy snow. What I seen very scenic and worth having a look in the Honister slate mine shop.
I had no idea what i was letting myself in for when I deciced to take a short cut over the Honister Pass at night. We only has an AA road map.If it had been OS map I probably wouldn't have begun.I'd hired a Triumph Spitfire for a few days.Got us up the hills ok and the brakes were fine, but the bonnet was so long that we were looking at the sky going over some of those rises and I was saying "which way does the road go?" Fun though.Glad we never met another vehicle. We have a lot of hairy mountain passes in north wales, but the honister wins hands down for requiring all your concentration, especially when there are lots of lambs chasing ewes across the road. Thanks for posting this.
Nice, thank you very much! I don't think we did the hardknott and wrynose, i'll have to try them out at some point. we done the struggle earlier that day, the video will be available soon, (if its not been published already). I'm in a Peugeot 306 1.9D (non turbo) with somthing like 70bhp so it wasn't too good up the hills, but still managed the stuggle without too much effort though! Thanks for the comment! :D
I'm sure I've done this road when up in the Lakes several years ago but can't quite remember. Wish I had the guts to drive Wrynose and Hardknott but had an awful experience with my family when we were up there about 40 years ago - terrifying and it traumatised me LOL.. just can't do it which is a shame.
Yes it would! We thought that on the way down, it would be especially good on the first part because if you get it wrong you'd go down a big drop! Thanks for watching. :)
this was my challenge for the summer, to do this on a road bike but i think i may of set the bar toooo high!!! ive been round in a car, but going the reverse direction from this,.. "it doesn't look that tough in car".....
Hows it going? Thanks for the comment, glad you like the video! :D Luckily for me I was only in a little 306 so width wasn't too much of an issue, but yeah the roads could do with being a little bit wider. I would imagine some of the bits could be a bit tricky in a campervan, good fun though! :p Cheers Andrew
I Live in cumbria my Personal favourite is coming off the motorway at penrith head for ullswater and head up towards kirkstone pass some of the best driving roads in the uk
LOL yeah the camera mount was pretty new at the time and I hadn't figured out to "lock" it properly... we're actually going back to this road next week with better cars and more cameras so be sure to check that out! Thanks for watching and commenting by the way! :D
This was filmed from a Peugeot 306 1.9D (non turbo) which drove the road fine so you should be ok without AWD, maybe not in the snow though. lol Thanks for watching :)
personally i'd say an early morning trip over hardknott and wrynose is a better experience, followed by the struggle up to kirkstone, mind you, honister in an 850 mini was fun......good film chaps, brings back some great memories. what were you driving btw?? i did all 4 passes in the snow in a shagged out 1300 escort van one year
Hows it going? Thanks for commenting! I think we might have driven dowm those roads on the trip this video was taken from. most of the roads in the Lake District seem pretty nice though! :D You can watch our video of the honister pass here: (youtube) /watch?v=KheNI2_NNZA Thanks again
How's it going? Its been about 4 years since we drove it so its not super fresh in my memory but I don't remember it being that bad - just about normal quality for a UK B-road, its a bit patchy in places but nothing too bad...4 years ago anyway! lol Thanks for watching! :)
I went about a year ago, it's a weird surface, some paces it's very smooth others it's rocky or oily etc. Nothing too harsh for the car to cope with, but best avoided if you're not a skilled driver as it can catch some people out.
I've driven the Honister Pass a few times now, twice in an Audi A4 2L (not fun with the loose handling) and one in a VW Scirocco GT which was brilliant fun! Wish I'd have done it at night in the Scirocco... About to do in in an Audi Q5 3L TDI Quattro, and will be doing it in September in an Evo X, I'll make sure I get a dash cam video of that... I won't be going slow. ;) Have to ask +The Retro Lab, what were you driving? It doesn't sound that meaty, 4 cylinder at most, and that rev wind down sounds like an auto, but there are points of over revving... slow shifting sounds like a Vauxhall or Peugeot? Beautiful show of the pass though mate, I can't wait to be there again in a week.
Thank you very much! I was driving some POS 1.9 non-turbo Peugeot 306! It was a manual, it was ages ago so I can't really remember but I was probably over revving it because you could only really use 2nd and 3rd on that road because the car was so unbelievably terrible, I probably just left it in 2nd thinking about it. lol When I get my current project finished this will be the first place I take it! I'm aiming for June 2018. I'll definitely have to check out your video when you take the Evo X down that road! Thanks for watching!! :)
How's it going? We drove what I'm pretty sure was the evo triangle while on our latest adventure in Wales last June, I'm editing the videos now so hopefully it won't be too long before they are uploaded! Thanks for watching :)
High time you investigated driving up the west coast of Scotland! Still part of Britain I believe....let me know if you do & I will stay off the roads....
+Fahim Islam We will be going back to the Lake District on another adventure fairly soon so I'll add it to the roads we need to drive! Thanks for watching! :)
The lake district where my heart finds rest and solitude, I have trekked and backpacked all around this diamond of England and where you are guaranteed at the end of the day a hearty meal and a great pint in all the pubs thereof.
It’s a great road to drive on! Love it! Live in Spain now and miss that drive a lot! In the snow is a lot of fun!!!!

Nevermind, I'm sure it looked nice in the snow anyway. Hopefully if you ever go back the road will be open! Thanks for watching. :)
Well done for letting the other vehicle clear off so we could see the road and views.
It's always better having clear roads! :) Thanks for watching!

It is not only bends but mountainous regions without any signs and markings to divide oncoming traffics
Yeah they are called single track lanes, this road was good because you could see 4 or 5 corners ahead for most of the road. Thanks for commenting!
Not super long, somewhere around 10 miles. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D

this would be an amazing WRC stage when/if they relax the laws of motorsport on public roads!
Yes it would! We thought that on the way down, it would be especially good on the first part because if you get it wrong you'd go down a big drop! Thanks for watching. :)

djrowley1972 I agree once took a wrong turn down here , thought I was heading for Kendal, I know I'm a bit dim😅
Now THAT'S what I call a perfect country drive....
Thanks! Yes it was amazing, I still think its the best road to drive in Britain! Thanks for watching! :)
LOL yeah the camera mount was pretty new at the time and I hadn't figured out to "lock" it properly... we're actually going back to this road next week with better cars and more cameras so be sure to check that out!

Be 100x better if the road was nice and smooth like it is in north wales 😍
Apparently its even worse now. Thanks for watching! :)
did it in a mini bus was scary during the night
I'm sure it was! lol Thanks for watching! :)
fuck man, felt like throwing up lol, awd is a must here
This was filmed from a Peugeot 306 1.9D (non turbo) which drove the road fine so you should be ok without AWD, maybe not in the snow though. lol Thanks for watching :)
The Retro Lab anyways brave driving 👌

I thought you'd lost it at 2:28!
....but it was just the camera getting a bit loose...
We've not driven this one yet!
You should definitely drive it if you get the chance! I think it is still the best road I have driven in Britain! Thanks for watching! :)
Great. I did do a video on the Kirkstone pass a few weeks ago.
die gaan wij ook rijden met Kawazuki
Nice, have a great time and thanks for watching! :)
Hows it going? Thanks for commenting! I think we might have driven dowm those roads on the trip this video was taken from. most of the roads in the Lake District seem pretty nice though! :D

cheers
Mizzey the MX 5

Have to give it the MX5 treatment that's for sure then RL
cheers
Nice, let me know if you also think it is the best road in Britain! Cheers :)

Try doing it in a xkr supercharge that you have had only a week and don't want to damage it !!!! lol S..T myself !!
+Mark Hocking I hope to do it again in a faster car soon! :) Thanks for watching!
+The Retro Lab please don't forget there are other cars on the road....It's an unforgiving pass.
I've driven the Honister Pass a few times now, twice in an Audi A4 2L (not fun with the loose handling) and one in a VW Scirocco GT which was brilliant fun! Wish I'd have done it at night in the Scirocco...

You're welcome:-)
remote Britain,,,,,,,,,,,,,no coaches or McDonalds here!
I beg to differ, the 77/77A bus actually runs along this road several times each day.
Does snow settle in December?
I have no idea, sorry.
Ever done the evo triangle?
How's it going? We drove what I'm pretty sure was the evo triangle while on our latest adventure in Wales last June, I'm editing the videos now so hopefully it won't be too long before they are uploaded! Thanks for watching :)
How much is the speed limit?
The speed limit is 60mph. Thanks for watching!
Here's the link to the Kirkstone video: /watch?v=KheNI2_NNZA&list=UU61gHdf2AGvH8_KXUi6aBlw&index=1&feature=plcp
Enjoy! :D
How long is this pass?
High time you investigated driving up the west coast of Scotland! Still part of Britain I believe....let me know if you do & I will stay off the roads....
Hi, Thanks for watching! Our current video series is actually of us exploring West Scotland! lol
this guy like driving on the wrong side of the road talk about death on wheels .I have driven and walked some of the fells.
Duh. The road is so narrow in places that there isn't really a wrong side of the road. Get thisen up there and tha'll see what I mean.
Try hardknott pass...deffo a better experience.
+Fahim Islam We will be going back to the Lake District on another adventure fairly soon so I'll add it to the roads we need to drive! Thanks for watching! :)
The Retro Lab Nice...have fun and be careful some of the tight turns at 30+ degrees slope are quite daunting :)
yes i did hardknott it was great
Better on two wheels
Probably, what do you ride? Thanks for watching! :)
+The Retro Lab
Thanks, I have a Yamaha XJ6. I was up that way in June. Nice road.
Nice! Yes I still think it is the best road I have ever driven in Britain! Thanks again :)
There's better roads in Scotland and Wales. IMO.
+Ryan Dong Which ones do you think are better? Thanks for watching!
He can't answer, he's just another bitter taff.
Well how about the road over The Quiraing on Skye or The Bealach na Ba or how about the road from Lochinver to Unapool via Stoer and Drumbeg.
