It is one of my favorite movie. Watched it and felt like as if I am an women. Being a man it is very difficult to understand the finer nuances of an women. But after watching your explanation of the movie I got a different perspective. Thank you for such detailed information. Please make more vedios. Love you

Very astute observations! And the dream sequences were very well done in this film..in that they captured that dream-like quality very realistically. That "normalcy of the bizarre", like you put it

I think the pigeons symbolizes her desire to fly away from her monotonous spinster life and live a domestic life as women of her age do. Basically the wish to be one among the lot (the flock of pegion) and not having a dull different kinda life .

The character of Prasanna can be read as a queer interpretation.

@@Cinemawali Because you know she does not allow any man to enter in her personal room (sphere), except Prasanna and Malati. While Banalata shares everything with Prasanna more than Malati, this could be because she thinks Prasanna, not as a man. Well, he is physically a man like a creature, but mentally and his inner soul may not be just of a man.

@@dipanjantikari9739 , yes..rightly so. The main protagonist doesn't feel awkward to change clothes in front of him too..

Pigeons were very common in a traditional Bengali households especially in the those days. I think It's due to the middle class people's wish to lead a life like landlords. It is also typically common in a well managed happy joint bengali family which is clearly not how banalata's big house can be described. On the other hand pigeons are also supposed to be the messenger of love , something which is missing in her life. I think the inclusion of the pigeons shows how banalata thinks that a marriage could save her happiness and harmony of her house.

"Banalata is very casual in front of Prasanna "
In front of Prasanna, her saree does not fit properly, but her face was covered in shame talk to any other one.
Without prasanna she can't even think any other face of her contemporary time.
Prasanna maintaining the house as his own house, he knows everything, he gives permission to everything, but he was not permitted to sleep under cyling fan..
The relationship between Banalata and prasanna remain a mystry.
