When the Primm family (Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle - a singing crocodile (Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primms must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.

I love how his dance moves are limited because of his tiny legs. That was just great attention to detail from the animators.

I totally agree with you! From an animators perspective, this must have been such a challenge because we do not have any reference work of dancing crocodiles. It begs the question: how long did animators try to find a crocodile actor before resorting to CGI? What kind of music did they try to get crocodiles to dance to? My personal opinion would be existing movie soundtracks that are very danceable.

FYI for those wondering, there actually is a issue where some folks cannot speak, but CAN sing. It's a weird but also fascinating psychological matter.

I adore this movie! If I'm left with a smile on face the entire duration, it's a masterpiece in my book. Sure, it's no Paddington, but it's still an amazing film. Shawn Mendes was the perfect choice for Lyle's singing voice and the songs (especially this and Rip Up The Recipe) are bangers. While I do agree it's a little weird Lyle sings but doesn't talk, it doesn't take me out of the film at all. I will treasure this as one of the few true family friendly films of today and will be happy to show this to my future kids one day.

I never heard of the book series before seeting this movie and I just enjoyed it. I am sure this has intrigued people into looking up the books maybe.

So glad there are more people out there who enjoyed this movie as well! It’s such a sweet and simple story, I watched it last year during a really rough time and it put a smile on my face for the whole movie. I also love how even though Lyle doesn’t speak, it’s like you still know what he’s saying just by his eyes and body language. I adore this movie 💚

I’m surprised no one from the neighboring buildings bothered to look out the window and wonder “who’s that singing?” I’d probably be able to hear Lyle from down the block or two.
And when they look out the window and see a singing crocodile, they'd probably think "I must be drunker than I thought I was."
Yeah, I also wondered why other people aren't noticing him singing too, but they'd probably think they're losing their marbles if they saw a crocodile singing.
Other claim that if they see him, they don't gey scared, they can surprise, so Lyle doesn't have to be sad and terrified he just sings without being scared because they will leave him alone without capturing, my very different Lyle
This is such a cute movie. My son's are obsessed with the music and even though they are only 3 and 5, it's fun to hear them running around the house singing these songs. They even inspired me to record my own version on my channel. 😊

It's actually not that weird that Lyle can sing but not talk. There are quite many cases of people who lost their ability to speak (called aphasia), for example after a stroke - however, they're still able to sing. This can be explained by the fact that the left hemisphere of our brain is responsible for speaking, whereas singing activates the right hemisphere. In fact, singing therapy is used sometimes to treat aphasia.

To everyone on here asking: why can he sing but not talk?
when watching the film I saw it as one of those “it is easier to sing with a speech impediment” things. People who stutter or lisp can often sing perfectly, because it is using a different section of their brain. I can only imagine this is more so if the speech issue is mental/emotional.
I sort of assumed he learned how to sing because it was fun, but was too anxious around people to learn how to talk- a sort of selective mutism. And that it got worse rather than better as he was trained to sing in front of an audience. I don’t actually know enough about selective mutism to confirm this is a thing that could happen, but those were the vibes I got from the character.
