- Hello everyone! It's Bob here, and I wanted to focus on Liverpool's literary legend, Booker bridesmaid (and other alliterative terms)- Beryl Bainbridge, on 21st November, her birthday.
This is all part of my (foolhardy) decision to read all of the novels shortlisted for The Booker Prize over its 50+ years. Please recommend what year you would like me to do next, and I hope you enjoy the video!

Thank you! And yes! She’s great! She’s one of those authors whose name I kept hearing for years, but I’m glad I took the leap and read some of her books. She’s so quietly underrated!
This was very interesting! I've never read any Beryl Bainbridge, probably because she was never translated into Finnish, so I simple wasn't aware of her for a long time. (👋 I'm a librarian from Finland) All of these sound like ones I'd like to read, so into my massive TBR mountain they go.

Beryl is a fun author- she feels very typically English to me, and her character observations are very precise! ‘An Awfully Big Adventure’ is a really fun place to start, I think!
