Kuantan is the place i grew up in the 1980s...Back then the Chinese there speak Cantonese as the lingua franca. Even Hokkien folks forgot their mother tongue and the whole household speak in Canterbury. I moved to KL in the 1990s to further studies and being a resident in Selangor ever since. Backed in the late 1980s a lot of Chinese left the town due to slow economic activities. Not sure of the landscape now, is it a Hokkien, Cantonese or Mandarin town. Nevertheless the 1970s and 1980s are the best time to live in ...back then the era is simple and sweet..So much precious memory

There was a nasi dagang stall in Holiday Plaza in JB that we used to frequent. We haven't been back there since covid, so we don't know if its still around

kuantan is named for the kingdom of kuantan which is also known as inderagiri and it is located in central sumatra province. the name is because a penghulu from the kingdom of kuantan came to live in pahang's capital and the people of the town renamed the town kuantan after this penghulu and his family who came with him. before the coming of this penghulu and his family, the capital of pahang was known as teruntum. the descendants of this penghulu are not only found in kuantan but all over pahang.
